ergonomics ...switch use is personal......I've flown thumbs for over 30 years and use SF switch because it feels natural. I can see where the alternate would appeal to pinchers. I cannot pinch.....even hybrid pinching and I have pretty big hands....it doesn't feel right to me but probably because I've been flying thumbs for 30 years...lol...Thanks for the insight..

ELRS says that AUX-1 (1000disarm/2000armmed) should be used only, because of telemetry packets being sent every cycle. How do I use a 3-pos switch, with ELRS safely? What should I go and begin leaning, to make a 3-pos switch, the ARM/disARM switch, and also satisfy the warning that ELRS has published? I want to use the 'SF' switch for Failsafe, and the 'SA' switch for ARM/disARM.

I use Bardwell’s 2-stage arming method - hold SH to prearm then flick SF towards the back of the radio to arm.

Me too, did it on my Taranis, and now I'm doing it on my Tango 2.

However you can disarm with just flicking the arm switch back, and thus you can accidentally hit it while flying because its sticking out

I’m a hybrid pincher and have no problem with SF. Quick and easy to disarm. Also, you don’t lose a 3 position switch. Still, these things should be personal preference. Whatever switch you can flick the easiest, should be arming.

I youse the same Switch position for years. On my X9D. But I figured out after I buildet my first 5 Inch Drone and Forgot where I put my Arm switch after changed all Mode switches from my Eachine Trashcan I not flown it for 3 Month and made an upgrade from shitty early Brushless Whoop to 5Inch. My Camera Angle was to high I copyed from my Whoop. Result: I kissed an Tree in the Maidn, and crashed into Erth and the Motor was digging in the ground for slugs until it ripped off the motor from the Arm and twisted the Motor Stator wires to the death. (cheap Emax Eco V1) and had to wait 2 weeks for an new one. In this Time I activatad my Brain and explored the Ideal position of armswitch. Yes you can Lern to fly Acro without an Simulator. An airhawks Quadcopter Toy and an Whoop or 3 Inch Drone you fly in angle, Horizon and switch as fast you can to Acro Mode is an Alternative to the PC sim. But today i have the DRL Simulator just for experimenting.

When i start my remote i have to have switch up/away from me and the throttle equal to -100in, then in logic switch l01 stating two way switch need as to face towars me and throyle down for it to be active and allow me to use L02 stating if L01 is active and i activate the temporary switch for over .9 of a second L03 activates in sticky mode stating l02 l02 making l03 a toggle switch as the aux1 in channel 5 in mixes to run my arm state...also the two way switch if flipped away it cuts power to the throttle...brings throttle down to 900us...i can also use L01 as a prearm aux i belive, i really havent armed yet because i have not been able to fully set some parts for prearm...im new to all this just got my tx16s last month...i have not gotten my remote to run my quad due to the hole arming states...just put that lines together in my inputs, mixes, outputs, logic switches and the special functions page...took me about3-4 days of videos to understand the connections and names of all the different lines and how to apply them to logics and use them as if they were real buttons...a bit complex but once you get it you get it...🤳👀🙋‍♂️

I agree 100% Ive been using SB (or the corresponding on spektrum) for ever. To prevent accidental arming I use the momentary for a pre-arm. The chance you will accidentally hold the momentary and then hit the arm switch is pretty much 0%

How thic are your fingers? No matter how I measure, there is always around half an inch between my finger and SB in bottom position. And I'm a pincher with big hands. So no, you do have to want to flip it, it won't happen by accident

Im a Thumber and I use SB, but its not ideal and I dont like it. Up disarm, middle arm, down arm with black box logging. Does anyone know how to recognize the sliders, the pots, and extra two trims... as switches? When I set them up in programming Open TX wont recognize them on my TX16s. For the 1-6 chicken feet I set them as throttle scalling 100% down to 50%in 10% increments. Default 1 is 100%. My switches on left control quad functions and states, and my switches on right turn on and off verbal 10s reporting of various critical crossfire telemetry values.... as I have no time while flying to read any OSD at all. Quad Voltage, Alt, ground speed, sat count, Link quality, current draw, etc. I also set up alarms to independently report low or out of range values...ie low quad voltage at various points. One switch stops, starts, and clears the timers. I set SF up to toggle between Acro and Angle. These choices were mainly because I got use to that setup in liftoff. SA is an option Ive considered but set to turtle mode which Ill probsbly never use. SD probably would be your best arm switch as if you land in angle mode you still are doing throttle but dont need pitch/roll as much and can take your hand off. But for me thats on the wrong side. As a safety against accidentally arming move your throttle back to middle or high/max after booting up. I think if your throttle is not at zero and you flick the arm switch accidentally it wont arm until you move throttle down to zero. Thats my "two stage".

I have my middle finger right above the upper left switch (SF on yours) and it's a very natural movement to disarm down in milliseconds. It's a different way to hold the whole TX while using a pinch grip. It becomes a very natural overall grip after 20 mins of trying and now many flights. My middle fingers are in between SF/SE and SH/SG (on your radio layout). I've seen it become uncomfortable for other people on the Radiomaster Pocket mini radio and I don't even want to know what it would be like on the X-box style radios. I have US size "Large" hands (in every motorcycle glove I've ever bought) FWIW.

SB does make sense for pinchers. I'm a thumber and the most comfortable way for me to hold the Radiomaster TX16S is with my index fingers between SE-SF and SG-SH. I keep SE and SG in the up position so there's enough room for my fingers. SH is my pre-arm switch and SF is the arm switch. To disarm all I have to do is move my left index finger down.

I'm more worried about my GPS rescue switch. I thumb and use the default top left bottom switch on a QX7 but the same place on the right is momentary so it gets used for the beeper not rescue meaning I have to shuffle my hand to reach for the upper switches to hit rescue mode. What I need is two switches to toggle low down. I think beeper is less important and can go on top.

i put arm on sf switch but its same channel as my mode, so arm to manual, then angle, then rth. it kinda depends on how many channels you have to work with. only 8 on crsf ya know. its also always been same switch for 5 years so i can hit it with muscle memory. im a hybryd thumb flyer tho

I use SE in a down position as armed, coupled with BetaFlight prearm on SH. As a pincher with my thumb and index fingers, I hold the radio with my middle finger right under the SE button. So disarming is just a simple push up with a finger already right on the switch and always ready to instantly push up. No flicking which might miss in the heat of the moment required. I find holding the radio with my middle fingers between those sets of switches on the top very comfortable for my hands with this radio. An example of how I hold the radio with your left hand is at ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Qjdj87EIcI4.html that finger is ready to pull up on SE instantly in that pose. I also avoid using one of the big switches for arm in general as the larger switches are easier to snag on clothing or be triggered on a drop, they're better for functions that won't start spinning blades.

SD switch - arming UP/ Disarm Down. I usually keep my middle finger on it so don't need to look for it in case of an emergency. And since it is smaller, than you need more force to switch it, so less chance to accidentally disarm or arm.

Using the same switch for years but „fused“ it logically to the poti next to it, which acts like a ignition. The poti will override SB if not turned all the way up to prevent accidental arming when carrying etc

I have been thinking about moving the arm switch the the right side. Swapping it with the momentary switch (which I use as a pre arm). The reason being is because when I am landing I don’t use my right stick to land (not much) as the left stick is up and down right so when landing I’m not too bothered about which way I am facing.

I am a thumber, and I have always used SB - not so much because it's easy to get at, but because i use auto modes sometimes, and sometimes when in one of those modes i let my transmitter hang on it's lanyard. Doing that i was occasionally bumping the outside switches, so i don't have anything important on those.

Coming from heli's and learnt to fly as a pincher I got lots of practice and built that muscle memory. The best arming switch for me is the SF switch. Why, my middle finger sits snuggly between the SE and SF switch. All i have to do is slightly move and straighten my finger a bit and it disarms. It's fast, no searching for switches, no thinking involved, no big movement of the finger and no flicking!!! In the end it comes down to practice, building that muscle memory and what is comfortable to your way of holding the radio. Keep up the great work!
@kayemdronestuff3597
@kayemdronestuff3597 4 года назад
Hi Mike, I use QX7 and holding the same way as you. But one time when i was doing some maneuver around some trees I got pretty excited and straighten my middle finger slightly and my quad disarmed. Since then I have set SA and SF as my arm switches so that i won't unintentionally disarm. So when I disarm ,I would just straighten middle and pointing finger together. Since now 2 swtiches are used to arm, there will be higher chance to accidentally arm my quad. So I'm using the edge trigger and stiky with momentary switch SH to arm now. Meaning I will raise SF and SA, then hold SH momentarily for half a second to arm my quad. Disarming would be the same i.e. to just straighten both middle and pointing fingers on the left.

Arming is always on potentiometer 1, Its like turning the car key. Not as fast on disarm but more secure against accidental arming + disarm.

I have emergency engine cut on the left bottom toggle switch in every model I own. It doesn't disarm, only cuts the engines. It is required to configure mixing so the airmode turns off and throttle is set to 0. In this way my muscle memory knows if something goes wrong turn off engines. This is cool because I can turn on engines right away if I get stuck somewhere or I can turn off engines in a flight and turn them on again, even if quad is not leveled :) Now I want to avoid accidential disarming. I think I will go potentiometer way, but 2 switch way sounds interesting. However I have only one momentary switch. I don't really understand yet howto do two button arm/disarm properly :)
