Can't make it to the range? Need the ability to train at home and shoot your bow without a target butt? Wanting a stronger, more consistent release? I'll show you the BEST training tool to make that all happen and more in this video!
The Astra Shot Trainer is a renewed look on the old Form Master that was used for years to see how much back tension an archer maintained through release and follow through. This is a much safer, more comfortable rendition with added features that will really drive home the concept of finishing with back tension with your recurve bow, barebow or other recurve style bow.

I am a lefty barebow shooter, and found a couple adjustments eliminated the face slap. Most important as you said, is shortening the strap/loop combination to the bare minimum. For me, this resulted in a LOT shorter strap and a lot of excess strap. CUT IT OFF! Don't need 8-10" of strap flopping around. Next, since I'm lefty, I reversed the hook so the gate is facing AWAY FROM MY FACE. This may require taking the strap, buckle, and hook apart and re threading them to orient the gate away. This puts the smoothest part of the hook against the face. Speaking of buckle, the same applies to this. My trainer had both an adjustment buckle and a take-up buckle. I removed the take-up buckle (don't need) and made sure the adjustment buckle was on the outside, away from my face. I had mine adjusted too long before watching this vid, so thanks for the pointers, it's made using the Astra enjoyable.

Great teacher!!! Thank you for all you do. I'm a beginning shooter and just started with a level 4. She said I was pretty good for a beginner....I have you to thank for that. So thank you!

I've been working with one of these for about a month (ordered from you, got it for xmas). It took a minute to get it positioned correctly so that it didn't bruise the back of my arm, but it's really nice to be able to pick up the bow and do 50 "shots" a couple times a day.

Spigarelli's version has a tube which is inside your elbow so, you can practice the biceps tension also

I’ve used the trainer for a couple of years and found it helpful. I must have an earlier model without the padding on the inside of the elbow. My trainer has developed wear on the elbow like a “run”. Still recommend it.

I got one of these and as a barebow shooter that string walks and anchors on my cheek i found the band smacks me in the face constantly. I tried for a few days to get it not to with no luck. I think it is made really well if you anchor below your jaw but not if you anchor anywhere on your face. Second issue I specifically found with my set up is I have a 25" riser and long limbs(70 inch setup) and I'm 6'2, so I cannot draw my bow indoors unless the ceiling is above standard height or my limbs hit the ceiling. So in short if your not tall, and you anchor under your jaw it is a great tool to use.
@wupatrick4177
@wupatrick4177 4 года назад
The International Hobo That smack will happen when you have a good alignment and strong follow through. Swap out the buckle and band with a paracord if you find stock band hurts too much. We use Atwood 550 for all our archers.

@@wupatrick4177 thanks for the idea, so a single strand of paracord right to the string?
@astanescu
@astanescu 4 года назад
I have the same problem. I then used a plain paracord loop, and unfortunately I still get smacked in the face pretty badly. Also, re the height issue.. I feel you. I'm 5'11 with 68" bow and I can draw inside a standard room just barely. Maybe a few inches left.
@wupatrick4177
@wupatrick4177 4 года назад
@@theinternationalhobo001 550 stands for 550lbs of max load for the rope. So yeah a single strand would be more than enough. I make a loop just for easy installation though. If it still slaps your cheek make the paracord shorter but long enough to feel the "kick"

Does your bow string (right hander) go to the left after release? Is this normal or is it just being dragged or pulled by the shot trainer chord to the left?
@kanyinak

Would this still work with a 70lb ASL type bow? I want to give it a try but I'm not keen on spending money on something that won't work for that type of bow.

Well Jake, let me tell you. Yesterday when using my Brand new Astra Shot, the “string loop” just broke, firing my bow. I was fortunate that the bow is ok and nothing else happened. I guess it was a defective one.
@Vincerama
@Vincerama 8 месяцев назад
I was looking at this trainer on the Lancaster site and several reviews mentioned the string loop breaking! Maybe a batch of bad ones? I guess if you use it outdoors like Jake did, with an arrow loaded and pointed in a safe direction, an accidental "dry fire" turns into a live fire. More dangerous if you don't have a safe backdrop, but safer for the bow.
@sombojoe
@sombojoe 3 года назад
Sure looks like a good idea. Even though I start out dry-firing in the house pointed at a target, I inevitably end up shooting live 10-15 yards through my living room, kitchen and dining room and into a target. And my kids keep ratting me out to my wife when she gets home!
@JoolsParker
@JoolsParker 2 года назад
By "dry-firing", do you mean drawing the bow to full draw and releasing it without nocking an arrow? Cos if you do, that is something you're definitely not meant to do - the energy that would have been transferred into the arrow has to be dissipated through the bow limbs instead, and it can damage them.

I've noticed that some of that vibration goes into my muscles and bones and after few shot my arm gets stiff and painful. Is this something that happens naturally or not using this properly? My physiotherapist told me to not use this due to all vibration i get from it.

Which arm? Did they offer advise how to fix it? Generally if you have pain, there should be a way to fix it instead of just avoiding it.

@@JakeKaminskiArchery String arm where the sleeve is. I asked him if it's good to have bone and muscle vibration and he said no and talked something about tennis elbow and i should avoid using it if possible. This only happens when i shoot without an arrow.

I bought one, yesterday it arrived, I shot for about 15 minutes and when I took off and shot without it and my bow hand started swing like crazy with no control like Casey kauf and my arrows started hitting 8 left in 10m, I’m scared to shoot anymore, I might hit something because I have no control over my body and shooting, I’m sure in 70m my arrows will land 2 bale off. Lots of people might experience the same so what I have done wrong. I know I’m controlling the bow coming towards me and without it My body doing the same.
@JakeKaminskiArchery
@JakeKaminskiArchery 2 года назад
This is happening because you are now executing the shot properly (most likely) a more properly and stronger executed shot will hit left. A weak collapse of a shot hits right. Your groups shifting to the left 8 at 10m isn’t that far. Just adjust your sight and keep going.

I've been using my shot trainer about a week and it's definitely made a difference however when I release my hand doesn't move back, I don't collapse but it doesn't go back as far as yours. I've also got a bruise from the strap higher up my arm. Do I just need to try and keep pulling my elbow back more during release? Thanks!

Try adjusting the length of the strap, I used to get bruises too until I shortened it a bit but for my teammate he had to make it longer. Depends on each person

be sure its short enough, also in the video i mentioned to add pressure after you release to pull it back until the string touches your face again.
