You can use any type of welding that you have access too as well! Plus I will be showing you how to add some really cool customizations to really make this project pop! Lathe use to make tree rings, welded branches, custom axe, brazing sap....it's all here! Plus lot's of cool tricks and tips about metal fabrication and welding.
This video is part of a new welding series called "How to Become a Welder"! This series is about anything and everything about welding including safety, setup, proper operation, diagnosing bad welds, and making cool welding projects.

Another vote for machine work, maybe starting with the bench top drillpress, as this is probably something a lot of us already have.

Ok sounds good! Yeah the drill press would definitely be in that series so people could be safe and use it properly. Thanks for the watch and your support for the channel!

What a great welding video! Your breakdown of your first bead was excellent! Welding is a very lucrative trade to get into. Please do more mill and lathe videos, they make tabletop lathes for a decent price and its a tool that is invaluable once you have one!

Thanks! You'll love my how to become a welder series if you haven't already seen it. Ok noted, I'm getting some interest on making a machining series so look for that in the future. Thanks for the watch and your support for the channel!

Or, start with 1/2 inch rod instead of pipe, and get a _LOT_ of welding time! Added bonus of not needing a cap.
@wayofthewrench

Yeah that would be a lot more welding time! An exercise in padding for sure! Thanks for the watch!

Nice stump project. I'd be interested in a fairly high level intro-to-machining video, because I don't know much about the field. Just as a start, to learn the kind of things a lathe or other machine-shop tool can do. Or maybe looking at things you might need to do in metal - a slot, a gear, whatever - and show us an introduction to how things like that can be made.

I thought you were going to build up weld beads on top of each other one layer at a time and then machine the end to see the layers like tree rings
@wayofthewrench
@wayofthewrench 6 месяцев назад
I've done that but it doesn't look like real tree rings, it looks more like bumpy rings and the machined surface hides that detail anyway. Thanks for the watch and the suggestion. Cheers!

Have you ever watched a Pakistani video where they are welding in position? Why is it that they all bend the rod?
@wayofthewrench
@wayofthewrench 6 месяцев назад
I'm not sure which video you're referring to but people often bend the electrodes to make it easier to position their hands/arms so they can be more steady. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!
@thepubliceye
@thepubliceye 6 месяцев назад
@@wayofthewrench Of course I know that, but this is not the case. That is why I said ( In position) they still bend the rod down.

Got a picture of what you mean? Cheers!

The purpose of putting a bend in the rod can be for several reasons mainly it helps you not to end up with a flimy rod it prevents the rod from shaking all over the place, which gives you more control. For welding smaller work pieces. also When you weld it's important to be comfortable that way you always end up with a niece looking weld. If you in an awkward position bending the rod helps you get easier access to a problem areas as well.
