With out a doubt this is a tent that is going to impress you!
At only $190, this is the best budget 4 season tent that I have ever tested.
This is my Agenda Free Review of the Stella tent from OneTigris - this is one of the three tents that make up the Black Tigris Series of winter tents.

Just put a bungee on the middle tie out points and the pitch will improve and the sagging will diminish - it also helps with catching wind load (or when you trip on a stake).

Fantastic looking tent. Most of the cons can be fixed very easily. The side tie outs for instance can be taken care of with adjustable sliders and a bit more cordage. The tent stake knots are really no big deal either and easily remedied. Yep, can't imagine why they don't properly mark the tent bag. A silver sharpie can take care of this but, yea, printed on in white would be a great touch. Though it may seem like a small deal, the tent bag being properly sized is a huge deal. I don't get why equipment manf. skimp on their bags. It is as if the head of R&D asks, "How easy was it to get back in the bag?" "OH, it was real easy!" R&D, " Make it smaller then." The price is incredible and it is an awesome looking tent.

I bought the Stella after your first review. I waited for it to get cold and took it to the mountains of West Virginia. It was 12F outside. Like you said, it was 10 degrees warmer in the tent just from my body heat. I had it set up in a shady area, but the black fly in sunlight would be super toasty. The tent is very compact and relatively lightweight so I wouldn’t hesitate to take it backpacking. I agree that it would be miserable in warm weather, but I was so impressed with it that I got the Cosmitto 2.0 for warm weather. I also got the Cosmitto footprint which I think will fit the Stella. Luke, you have turned me into a tent fanatic. I keep buying tents after watching your videos. My wife is starting to get concerned.
@Maryland_Kulak

PS: If you know how to tie a taut line hitch (search it up on RU-vid) you don’t need adjustable buckles to tighten the rain fly up. Also, it isn’t hard to tie the cord on the tent pegs if they come untied. Just an overhand on a bight.
@bernielamont825
@bernielamont825 6 месяцев назад
@@Maryland_KulakYes, the tautline hitch works fantastic on tie outs, like you said the taut line hitch is very simple to learn. After about 10=15 minutes it's second nature!

I decided to buy this tent and I found a guys who specializes in tent repair, I asked him if it would be possible to sew in a bug mesh. He looked up the tent online told me to bring it to him and the same day it was done. Total cost was 40€. Now I can use this tent in winter or just take the inner and use it in summer.

Nice review on this tent, Luke, and cudos to One Tigris for making a QUALITY tent !! Very few tents sold in the US have this level of HH, or hydrostatic head , (a measure of how waterproof the tent will be), at 3000 hh. Most tent makers only have an HH rating of less than 1000 - 2000 hh , of which is acceptable for a light shower or moderate rain for short durations. If you are talking serious bad weather for prolonged periods over several years use, these hh ratings won’t cut it imo. That is why european tents have higher HH ratings of 3000 - 6000 hh , due to the increased rainfall experienced in areas such as in the UK, Germany, etc. More US tent makers should improve their HH ratings, (not to mention quality control), so that those wanting a tent that can handle adverse conditions, an emergency tent for unknown weather conditions, etc. can have reliable options. The LAST thing you want on a backcountry trip is having to repair your shelter or having it fail during a storm. I understand that this tent is a sole purpose winter only tent, but for what it is, ESPECIALLY for the price, this is a No Brainer for winter campers/backpackers or preppers looking for a quality winter tent option that won’t break the bank.

Purchased this tent on your recommendation, and I am not disappointed. This tent is really really nice, and not expensive. I have taken it out twice now 4 nights total. So far the coldest temps were 13 degrees outside (no snow or ice). In the morning the inside of the tent was 28F and outside was 13F, no heat source besides my 5’ 7” mass. I had a very small amount or moisture on the inside. Very pleased. I only have 2 negatives which you have already touched on in your videos. 1. The poles do not stay in place while assembling. They tent to pop out of the hole when trying to erect from the other side. Not a big deal but can be annoying. 2. The rain fly does not tie up and out of the way well. With only the one tie it hangs in your way while entering/leaving the tent. If they made this in a 3 man version I would buy about 8 of them for my Troop. Even though this does sleep 2 people (both using 25” wide pads), there is no place left for your gear. So to me it’s still just a perfect size 1 man tent.

I love mine as well and it is a True 4-Season tent, not 3, not 2 but 4-season only! Almost forgot I fixed those side stake out points by using some paracord and some Plastic Cord Locks End Spring Stop Toggle Stoppers as adjusters. Be sure to allow for enough length to the stakes. I used the other stakeout lengths as a guide.

Camped in my new Stella on New Years. Got around 27° F that night. Tent performed great for the weather. No cold air blowing inside tent and no condensation issues. Tent looks great too!. Waiting for a rain test night. Zippers are very smooth. Just make sure when you go to bed for the night those zippers are all the way closed. The little flap where the zippers meet kind of blocks your view. I noticed the next morning that one door was not fully zipped that caused a slight gap. I also used the Cosmitto footprint that also fits the Stella.

Great, thorough review. With so many four-season tents costing £600+ here in the UK, this is a viable option. The only thing that concerns me is the draft getting in under the flysheet and gear getting soaked but I suppose you could take stuff into the inner. Despite the niggles, I think this tent is going to do well - especially in times when people don’t have a lot of spare cash. Many thanks from the UK Luke. 👍🇬🇧

Great review as always Luke. The cords on the tent stakes, if they are nylon cordage, simply tie the knot you want and melt the end to the knot itself and it won't come loose. As @Maryland_Kulak suggested, purchasing the OneTigris Cosmitto will take care of the warm weather camping and backpacking and you get both the tents for under $400. That sounds like a win to me. Sounds like a great tent and I'll be looking into purchasing one after the new year. It should work great here in the PNW.

What would you say are the highest temperature someone could use this tent in? Luke states cold and winter but doesn't really go into detail on degrees. it might be a stupid question since it's a 4th season tent but thought i should ask, since you own one.
@goemboeck
@goemboeck 6 месяцев назад
@@ThatUpster I'm afraid I can't answer to that in few more months. I got it in September when the nights had already gotten milder. I had some sort of ventilation going on, and the night temperature was 15-18C or so, had zero problems with any heat accumulation. I would suspect that in actual summer months one may want to sleep butt-naked :D
@ThatUpster
@ThatUpster 6 месяцев назад
@@goemboeck That actually answered my question perfectly, If it could be used both in the winter and in some warmer conditions like 10-15C, or if it was way to warm. But 15-18C without issue sounds great, very versatile. Ofc it might differ a bit for me but that as a baseline is great! I mostly use Tarps for all the seasons, but was thinking of finding a good cheaper Winter tent that could be used Spring and Autumn as well, and this tent sounds like something I would be very pleased with. Thanks for taking the time to answer. Cheers!

I appreciate your honest opinions and reviews. You seem to pick on One Tigris about marking the storage bag with the tent model name . Consider that One Tigris could do that very easily , however they would pass that cost onto the consumer. One could very easily stencil the model name using a permanent marker in white . Thank you for your honest opinions.

I also love and hate the reviews, but for slightly different issues. Love the honesty, depth, and just the overall scope of what you do. I hate the superfluous nitpicking. Loose threads? Really, that's no indication of a lack of quality, just a lack of attention to perfection on the part of the person responsible for thread trimming. I spent a decade doing upholstery and drapery fabrication/repair, and let me say that I always tried to avoid loose threads, but somehow, on large projects, they almost always found a way to avoid me. But when I fabricated something, it was sound and as overbuilt as I could manage. This bit about a lack of labeling on the bags is just ridiculous. Get a fabric marker. I mean, on the one hand, you praise the quality to price and then complain about a detail that could, feasibly, increase the cost. Apart from all my complaining, I believe that you do an incredible job, and my complaints are MY ignorable nitpicking. Bravo to you.

I cannot wait to take it back out and use my tarp along with it.

Every time with this company, it's the storage bag and stakes. I usually use a paint pen on bags or some sharpie and duct tape. I always change the cheap cordage on stakes with 5mm or 3mm line and just gorilla glue the knot as I too have gauged chunks out of fingers. The tent fly stake out points can be a problem, but some bungie cord and a short piece of 3mm para and a hitch solves the tension issues with nylon and silnylon tarps and fly's( have to put lots of tension to stretch the bungie) when staked. As the nylon stretches, the cord takes up your slack and no re-adjusting.

You give fantastic information and I do enjoy watching your channel. I'm not a hard core camper. The only way I'd be in a tent in cold or stormy weather is if it's a survival issue. What I'm looking for is an inexpensive ( no more than $150. ) tent that I can keep here for my kids, grandkids and great grandkids to borrow if they wanted. I'm retired and widowed. I can't afford a super good tent but I also can't afford to waste money on something that falls apart after the first use. Any suggestions for that? I live in windy northeast Utah. I just bought the Lightfighter Fido2 AI tent. I was wondering your opinion on this tent. I purchased it because of your videos on it. I'm curious what your opinion is on it being a fourth season tent? Is something like the OneTigris Stella a better fourth season tent, and the Fido2 AI is more of a 3+ season tent? What's your thoughts on this because I bought the Fido 2 AI as an all year tent, all season tent for out here in Colorado. I haven't gotten it yet. I'm very curious if I should buy a fourth season tent, like the OneTigris Stella for winter camping. I love your videos, and I truly trust your experience and opinion on camping gear. Thank you so very much for all your hard work.

I would suggest that Luke define what a 4 season tent is. From the comments, it is obvious that many of the commenters do not understand.

Looks like a very strong competitor against the LiteFighter Fido 2 AI, which is still under $800, but the Stella is still considerably cheaper and lighter. Might be worth it to compare the two in terms of durability. The Fido does offer more modularity so you can use it in the summer.

Going back and forth on Amazon, this OneTigris Stella looks a lot like a winter version of the MSR Elixir 2. But I see the Elixir still has all around thicker material and features more mesh. I winter backpacked in the Grand Canyon and I can confirm the MSR Elixir 2 survived a 50mph windstorm and cold nights with a 0° comfort rated sleeping bag. That being said, 2lb less and likely a warmer interior to the tent would have been nice that the OneTigris Stella can offer.

6.9 feet in length is 83in or less. I have never seen a name brand tent that short in length. At 6'2" I prefer 88-90in so the toes of my quilt are not touching the foot of the tent. Also 20d seems light for a 4 season tent. That is what Big Agnes uses for their ultralight 3 season tents, and those tents are known to be fragile. I have a now discontinued Big Agnes 3+ season tent that uses 40d silnylon and I consider that on the edge of being too light for 4 season use. This Onetigris tent looks like a copy of Big Agnes Copper Spur Expedition with about 90% less ventilation. Condensation will likely be an issue with such little ventilation.

6’3”, bought the tent and was basically sleeping head & toe against walls, luckily no condensation

@@dsien What diameter are the poles? When I checked Onetigris website yesterday there was no mention of the pole size.

Hey Luke. I use colored electrical tape to differentiate things. Maybe put a strip of different colors on each tent bag

I tie “snake knots” for all my tent stakes and zipper pulls. Two consecutive knots that will never come undo and they look sharp. Plenty of videos on RU-vid on how to tie them.

While more expensive I think the Luxe Minipeak, and their other tents are pretty solid as well, especially since they changed to a reputable distributor. It's tipi design, and wood stove compatibility is pretty cool, and it comes with both 3 season and winter inner options. They even come with a snow skirt option *but* just the fly, for a fly only pitch is $129.00, on sale, for the 1 person. Note the 1 person can be a two person tent if you don't plan on gear or stove being inside. Add in the 4 season, 1 person, inner and the cost jumps up to $239.00. Still a great deal but the OneTigris here beats it fo-sho. I just prefer Tipi designs for wind and snow loading. Where I am the snow can be pretty wet so the steep angles are a benefit in terms of snow sliding off.

Most of the cons you opined on can be fixed by you or One Tigris , if they are listening/watching? And they should be. Your evaluations are accurate and should be taken into consideration by these companies. Paracord and some simple adjusting tension Knots can fix your adjusting tension cons. A sewn in mosquito screen and zipper for the entrance and maybe a window like all Pup tents since the 60's is an easy fix the company should already know to do. Great review and I hope they get the memo.
