Love the Goya garbanzos, and their black beans are not far behind. I like to season the beans my way and Goya gives you this. Hope they don't decide to upgrade or change whatever good thing they're doing cause they're perfect as they are. My grandson loves to eat the garbanzos right out of the can as a snack and us too.

Due to a recent food allergy not everyone in my house can eat eggs. So the liquid from chickpeas has been very beneficial in replacement of eggs. The one thing I haven’t tried is chickpea liquid in place of eggs for coating food to be fried.

I love Chick Pea Fritters but, personally I prefer calling them “Garbanzo Beans”. Just because whenever I say the word Garbanzo (or Pepperoni) my four-year-old grandson cracks up and falls on the floor laughing! I use fresh squeezed lemon or Tahini Sauce on my Chick Pea Fritters. I make them with lots of fresh cilantro and scallions. Goya also offers canned Organic, Low Sodium Chick Peas, at about 30% increase in price. Goya’s Organic Chick Peas seems much firmer to me, probably because they’re lower in sodium. (They’re NOT Sodium - Free.) I like to use a mixture of the original and organic low sodium when I make my hummus, for the perfect texture.

In my country, Chickpea, as the Americans call it, has been a staple food for all my life - and I am sixty plus years old. and it was a staple in my mothers life. We call it channa and its used in festivals and ceremonies, its used as a filing in our popular street foods, it's used in curries with aloo (potatoes) plus so much more . Glad to see Americans are NOW learning about its nutritional value where in the Caribbean region it's a regular part of the East Indian meal..

2:39 - I have to wonder if part of the "firm chickpea, gritty hummus" thing might have something to do with firming agents. In particular, calcium chloride. It's not included in the one brand they're talking about here (it has konbu seaweed essence, but that seems to be for flavor), but the BTS tasters went through a lot more brands, and some brands actually do use calcium chloride. Canned foods are cooked. It's part of the canning process. But what if you want to make a pico de gallo salsa with canned tomatoes? It would be all wrong because the tomatoes in the can are cooked and soft. Enter calcium chloride. Tomatoes treated with calcium chloride retain some of their firmness despite the intense heat of the canning process. So your tomatoes are more fresh-adjacent than if you were to use tomatoes not treated with calcium chloride before canning. It's a very common additive specifically in canned diced tomatoes. So if you take a can of diced tomatoes, and a can of pureed, whole, or crushed tomatoes, all from the same brand, you might find calcium chloride on the ingredient list for the diced but not the others. Nutritionally, I have no problem with calcium chloride. Not my wheelhouse. The rub is, calcium chloride is *really* good at its job, and it doesn't have an off switch. If you bring home a can of diced tomatoes with calcium chloride, and you boil those tomatoes in soup for an hour, they're still going to have some of that firmness. And even if you toss them in a blender, they're likely to be a bit mealy, in the same way that you can never quite fully blend a pear. Calcium chloride is for firmness, and it doesn't skip leg day. I don't know why the heck they would put calcium chloride in some chickpea brands. They're SUPPOSED to be cooked! Cooking softens things! There's no such thing as biting into a raw chickpea, while biting into a raw tomato is totally a thing. What are these canners trying to emulate in adding a firming agent to chickpeas? It's not going to cook out, and it's not going to food-processor out. Just cook the chickpeas in the can and go home! I don't get it. Less really is more with chickpeas.

Feed your dog regular "human" food. Commercial dog food is awful for them. I cook a couple of times a week for my dog and refrigerate her meals for a few days at a time. It's easier than it sounds and your dog will live a longer, healthier life. Also feed your dog what your family eats when you can. Just look up the ingredients to make sure it's safe for dogs. Most human food is fine for dogs, with a few exceptions. I feel so bad for dogs who have to smell all the delicious food their family is eating, while they are stuck with a bowl of kibble. It must be torture. Poor dogs.
@mygirldarby
@mygirldarby 4 года назад
@@lareinadiondra6027 feed your dog what you eat and they will be healthier and happier. Pumpkin is very good for dogs because of the fiber. Dogs deserve to have a varied diet just like we do. Commercial dog food is awful for them. In many countries in Europe, dogs are never fed "dog food" and they live 2-4 years longer. Over there they just eat what the rest of their family is eating, which is how it should be. The dog food industry has misled people into thinking their dogs can't eat regular food. It's beyond ridiculous if you think about it.

Apples and oranges my friend. They were comparing CANNED chickpeas, NOT what method would present the purest most satisfying product ie preparing the dried legume from scratch or using a ready made canned product. Most cooks will not find bags of dried chickpeas in the store since most people dont know how to soak and cook them making it wasted shelf space for most retailers to stock. Most stores only offer a choice among precooked canned brands. I've only found dried chickpeas at a specialty bulk food store at a price that would make the extra work of preparing them for anything but a specialty Middle Eastern receipe not worth it.
