I had on of these a few years ago. Absolutely loved it. My wife hated the fact that I sold it. She also hates my TTRS. You need to review my TTRS to help me with my argument!
I've been dailying the post facelift A45 (2016) for 4 years now, the post facelift actually has 381 HP. It is a very steady ride and might feel slow or boring because of it, you could almost say it is too easy to go fast. It definitly is not slower than a Golf R stock vs stock.
Been watching buyers guides for these, i think this one may feel lacking on power because of a faulty crankshaft sensor. It really didnt sound like it was picking up quick enough compared to other reviews ibe just watched
JB, although we are all Petrolheads here, it would be good to cover some best value electric cars, as I’m keeping my Subaru but looks like the wife wants a toy car
I have this exact same problem coming from tuned lightweight turbo cars, modern heavier cars just don’t FEEL as fast, even if they are actually quicker on the road. What’s the point if it FEELS slower?! Agree the interior also feels cheap once you’re in an A45!
One thing with the A45 is that in order to actually experience the actual speed you need to launch it. Outside of that it doesn't feel like your going as fast as you should but it's definitely beating the golf R in stock form
You might have test drove one with a faulty wastegate, very common issue on these cars which kills the power, mine is fast asf and barely loses to rs3’s
Owned both (currently the Golf R 7.5 not through choice), I'd choose the A54 all day long! Stage 1 Golf with breathing mods is comparable to the stock A45, but a gearbox tune of the A45 makes it even better. The only true hyper hatch is an RS3, but they're just stupid money for most people.
The car must be off key .. I test drove an A35 and Golf R back to back and didn't think think there was much between them .. The Golf R had lower down grunt .. That A45 should have pinned you to the seat.
The biggest reason I'm put off these is the supposed poor reliability, particularly turbo and gearbox issues. It's a lot of power from a small engine so consequently has to run at very high boost. It might be that it felt slow because it's not making the power it's supposed to? Saying that I watched a comparison a few years ago where an A45 owner drove an M140i and said it felt stronger and faster than his car. BTW road tax is £305 on a pre 2017 model, £190 post 2017 (The same as many similar cars) You've added luxury car premium which would only need paying on a 2018 model.
@@bigfarma6757I have the GP3 ,I have also had the GR Yaris and back in the day a A45 AMG ,and the GP3 is a real hooligan in comparison , not as easy to drive but much faster than the Yaris and A45 , I felt you could put your mother in both of them and they could drive those fast, takes a very committed driver with the GP3 , it’s a beast , the bad reviews is probably because of how focused it was over out and out road use , which is where it’s in its element .
@@CarsWithJB the bad reviews wa probably due to the fact of how track focused the GP3 is for the road , it’s a monster . I’ve owned nearly all those superfast hatchbacks, none of them gave me the thrill of the adrenaline rush as that GP3 . Not just that it’s how special it is considering it’s a numbered car with only a few hundred here in the UK, many of them has been written off to . Even though the wife hates it and says I drive it like we have extra lives ,I wouldn’t sell my mine a keeper. But it’s too extreme to drive every day in my opinion.
@@BullyBoxer I’ve owned two Mercedes now , and whist they have both had over 270 bhp , I’ve always had more fun In my Mini . I loved the low speed urgency of the Mini . It’s like the difference between a minnow and a shark . The shark would be much faster in a race but the minnow is fast and agile at lower speeds .
F10 M5 was the first car that came to mind if you want serious performance for the money, but also in terms of raw feel the E92 M3 and B7 RS4 video I did will give you an idea of what I’m after from that feel! Other good examples would be a mk2 TTRS or the V10 RS6!
I came from a 240bhp mini r56 jcw ,,sold it for an a45,,,I was very disappointed,,a45 don't feel fast at all but speedo tells u otherwise,,its just a smooth power..
You need to review that blue lotus emira they had back there. Good comparison between this and the golf R. I heard the gearboxes on these are a weak point in the early models so do look into getting the later ones.
So what cars in this price range do you think will violate this?! That’s another whole video… cars that feel quicker and more fun than an A45 under £20k!
They just sound rubbish, that's just the result of such a small engine. The power is impressive of course but the cars just soulless. My TTRS is so much more enjoyable and only 0.5 litres more engine capacity
ru-vid.comT2LKBnivm_g?feature=share - love the A45; but I'd not get another one tbh - the 4WD can feel 'wriggly' at times and it eats front tyres like you wouldn't believe! Amazing fun though - want a C63 or M5 next.
