Thanks for this one Igor. I used to use the Italian Opening in my younger days, but you can get situations where a pawn gets in front of you strong c4 Bishop in some lines. With the Scotch Gambit, you don't have such problems. Thanks for the video on playing against it with black. I didn't realise it was as potent as that. It makes you think twice about Fried liver ideas. Thank you.

I stopped watching a few moments after noticing this and that all black's moves/continuations are all bad. Tricky gambits in "hope" chess don't really work long-term against decent opponents. Video is useful for maybe for 1400 ELO blitz players who like gambits to beat noobs, or to defend against them

I have a question to minute 4:25: Bb4+ is explained as a mistake but if after the pawn exchange black plays Ba5, which is the most natural move to keep attacking c3, there is not much white can do. The bishop is covered by the knight so no Qd5 trick and white does not seem to have much compensation for the pawn.
@TheDevilK
@TheDevilK 2 года назад
You can move the knight up on f3 to G5 instead of sacrificing the bishop. Your bishop on a5 isnt doing much with the white pawn defended by the other knight.

After 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 exd4 4.Bc4, the move 4...d5 is a mistake. The pawn on d5 is only defended once but attacked twice. White can continue: 5.exd5, and if 5...Na5 then 6.Qxd4. If 5...Nb4, then just 6.O-O Nxd5 7.Qxd4 (with a huge lead in development for White).

The Scotch Gambit is quite dangerous even if black responds correctly. The main move after 5.e5 is of course 5...d5 (5...Ng4 and 5...Ne4 being the alternatives) 6.Bb5 Ne4 (quite interesting is the not so obvious 6...Nd7) 7.Nd4 and i think that black has to play the gambit line 7...Bc5 with good compensation for the sacrificed material. I don't like the positions after 7...Bd7 8.Bxc6 bxc6. I think they are quite complicated and white gets a good share of attack if he knows what to do. It is an underestimated opening but there are some very strong Gm's who play it like Gawain Jones from Britain. For sure it will scored heavily in amateur level.
