I believe their decision not to release the file is to preserve the quality and authenticity of the mlites. Because every one probably won't use the same quality materials and process, but yet will still label it as an MLite which in turn can negatively impact the original creators of this Beautiful project

@@ibelikeword but the whole spirit of eos m and magic lantern is being open source and everyone improving the the product and customizing it to their needs, it would be sweet if it's the case for the m-lite, for example I'd love to add an imbedded capture card to get a USB c port to plug my phone as a monitor

Man the EOS M was my first real camera back when it came out and I remember it being almost universally panned. It’s wild that it’s only gone up in value since I got rid of it after such a turbulent launch.

First, this is fantastic! Second, of course I find out after the kits are no longer available, I signed up to be notified of their next run, but who knows when that will be. I wish 3d focus would sell the files so that we can print the M-Lite ourselves.

Hey! While doable, the price point would be way too high for it to make sense, you can however mod it with our In-house CNC Machined accessories ;))

@@filmatura An entire single piece milled aluminum would be extremely expensive for sure! Maybe a 6-sided assembly of 3/16" (or 5mm) thick 6061 aluminum (sheet) wouldn't cost too much (about $150.00 in aluminum online if say it's an 8" x 8" x 8" cube. Plus milling time and costs associated. As a hobby DIY project if you have your own CNC though it would be a lot of fun to try and make. :) Definitely no real way to make any money on the project if you tried to sell it to make a profit that's for sure.

@@CNC-Time-Lapse Yeah, and 150 just for material. Add in milling costs, tooling, machine amortisation etc etc and you're easily getting to 600-1000 bucks. At which point the EOS M no longer makes sense. But would be incredibly cool for sure ;)

Question what are ur raw settings cause I’m have issues with mines stopping after a few seconds and I have the right sd. Only time I get good results is when I lower the resolution to 960 can u help

The M50 cant do RAW video (Magic Lantern) so it's missing that one key ingredient that separates a hybrid/DSLR camera from a Cinema Camera. The M50 is a nice budget hybrid camera and doesn't need a re-housing because it wouldnt see any benefit from it.

I got my EOS M a bunch of years ago for $70 on KEH. I'd do this but I'm a little afraid. I do love Magic Lantern though... of I ever get a 5D mk II, I'll probably use the EOS M for something like this.

Awesome! I actually have officially switch to the EOSM as my A-Cam over the FUJIFILM X-H1 and the old Sony a7s. I have been bitting my nails trying NOT to buy this housing. And you are not making the decision any easier. I really want it, but it's just not a wise investment for me right now. The video quality is not going to change, but I am mainly interested in the HDMI external port and the cooling via an internal fan. What other reason do you think is good to have this M-Lite housing?

SLOW. I have a C100 MKII camera and the workflow with that is AMAZING. Right off the sd card the files are ready. And they are small files. And there is more detail in the C100 video.

I've had my fun with Magic Lantern but if you consider that you can actually buy a true raw capable machine like Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera Original, 2.5K Cinema or 4K production it suddenly makes a lot less sense.

I've been wanting a M-Lite camera for a while now. My only concern is how bad is rolling shutter? I mount my cameras on the handlebar of a bike, and rolling shutter is horrible at times. I wish we had modern CCD sensors back.

There's hole in the bottom of the box, and there's a mod that allows you to remove the battery door entirely so you can put SD cards in and out

There is a slot on the bottom of the case for the SD card, and the camera is connected to a dummy battery with USB, so you can power it with a phone charger, portable power bank, V mount battery, etc. It’s definitely tricky to get the SD card out though since it’s set pretty far down in the housing.

The Eos-M is fantastic but in its tiny form it can be challenging. As others have said..rigging, rear screen etc can look a bit silly when trying to use it for making films etc so a traditional cinema body is better. Like most camera's that shoot high quality footage it can overheat hence why Sony, canon etc restrict certain cams and why the Sony cinema line has fans. The normal operating temp of the Eos-M is between 29 - 35° degrees but with ml constantly writing the data with SD card overclock you can end up with a very hot sensor, SD card and circuits. If you live in a hot climate your camera will shut down. Having a cooler sensor will help with noise and protect the camera in general so the better airflow and included fan really help to sort out the issues of crop mood.

As a previous owner and user of canon Eos m and 5D Mark II and magic lantern I have to tell you that all this thing isn't worth your attention and time. It's super laggy, sometimes the camera frizes, something you get pink focus pixels on your footage that doesn't go away completely after fixing them, always unreliable record time, sometimes you get 20 seconds, sometimes 40, sometimes it stops immediately after you start recording, sometimes you might get corrupted footage, no autofocus at all etc. Just forget about this idiotic, enthusiastic crap and just get yourself a normal camera directly. My choice after selling all this trash, was a Nikon z6 + ninja v and Nikon raw unlock. Paid for used almost new camera and unlock 1k $ and used almost new ninja v with hdmi cable and 1tb SSD 450$. Lenses are an absolutely different story that we don't take into consideration in this topic. But for 1400-1500$ U will get an amazing full frame camera and good autofocus and unlimited 4k 12bit pro res raw recording. Definitely has way more value than this canon m crap.

Absolutely. If you're after a cinema camera on a budget get a cinema camera. There are some available for less then EOS M plus this mod. I currently own two: Thr Blackmagic Micro Cinema Camera and the Blackmagic Production Camera 4K. Both shoot native raw with image quality far superior to the best Magic Lantern can output and they cost less.

The original plan was to release the STL, however that was while it was supposed to be crowdfunded. We decided to bite the bullet and do this on our own, both investing our time, knowledge and money into it, which made releasing the STL make less and less sense every day.
