The WORST Boots I've Ever Reviewed! A Cautionary Tale

I've reviewed many, many boots through the years, but Brunt is the worst work boot I've had on this channel. Their shoddy build quality is bested only by their deceptive marketing claiming them to be the most comfortable work boot available. I didn't trust myself to do a proper "in use" review, so I had a coworker wear them for a month. At the end of that time, he was very happy to be rid of the Brunt Marin boots. Claiming their comfort gave out after a couple weeks and the boots themselves were unlikely to last another month in his working conditions.

Reviews of clothing, boots, and workwear for men, along with style advice and life philosophy. I've been working with my hands for my entire life as a mechanic, tow truck driver, and eventually a licensed electrician. Being a blue collar guy, I look for certain elements in a product: is it durable? Is it high-quality? Will it perform well over its service life? Whether boots, pants, jackets, or tools I believe it's best to buy once and cry once by getting the best you can afford. With so many options these days, choosing the best product can become a difficult decision, but that's where I come in. Helping you stay stylish, rugged, and handsome.
I don't care where it's made as long as it's made well and allows you to own less and own better.

A work buddy came into the shop one day excited that he had just ordered an "awesome" pair of new boots. When I asked him what kind, he said it was a new, up and coming brand that I probably hadn't heard of, and he couldn't remember the name anyway. In my head, I remember thinking - I sure hope they aren't Brunts or Portlands... A week later, homeboy comes in in shiny new Brunts. I didn't say anything because he's a nice guy and seemed stoked on his new kicks. Maybe all the trusted and negative reviews I had seen were overkill... Sure enough, in about three weeks, the poor guy's boots started falling apart. Pretty bad too. It was as if one thing held them together, and that one key piece had broken. Anyway, it made his day hell and he had to go to the local farm and feed after work and buy some Thourogoods off the shelf. This was about a year or so ago, give or take. His Thourogoods are holding up just fine...

At an arborcare company, we had half the guys buy the same model of brunt type workbooks. Non US made, cheap. The only pair left is hanging in a tree. A guy bought US made Thorogood mock toes and another guy bought Nicks. 2 years later, both are still going.

The intro was great and you made so many good points that encapsulate the core values of your channel very well. Which is why many of us watch I think, there's just not enough good work wear and quality mans clothing reviews out there. I recently have been shopping for new boots after my favorite redwing CRV's which are no longer produced have reached the end of a good 4 year run of real work 40hrs a week on jobsites as a commercial electrician. The critical aspect for me aside from durability and quality is some toe room I can't have my toes feel like they're in a cast and so so many boots seem to overlook this anatomical feature, one of the only reasons I didn't go ahead and spend on a PNW boot, I was scared my forefoot would suffer, thus landing me on trying out some of the higher end Keens for the first time. Look forward to seeing future video reviews from you on various models and brands of major work boots.

I am on my 4th year wearing my Georgia boots, great boots and perfectly happy with them. I've seen these and others in the price range, and that sketchy advertising (I actually had just watched another popular boot reviewer comment on the same kind of advertising on another brand, (funny how the lower tiers are coming out to make a buck) before watching this one) the worst pair of work boots I ever had were a pair of Wolverines that the stitching, practically all of it, broke within 6 months. I resewed them and they lasted about a year. Great video, love your content and I am sure the owners of Brunt all wear loafers 😀

I work in construction and I’m a firm believer in thorogood boots. I always have guys ask me about them and end up buying these brunt’s only to have them fall apart in a month or 2. It’s nothing for me to get 1 or 2 years out of thorogoods and the comfort never declines

I screwed up and bought the Brunt Marin about a year ago. They lasted about 4 to 5 months and they were WORE OUT. This review is spot on. They felt great for about 45 days with no break in period and then your foot felt like it was standing on the floor itself. I would recommend spending a hundred bucks more and get a boot that will last several years. You will have to break them in but they will form to your foot and last.

I worked manual labor in parks (lots of mud, snow, gravel, brush) till I moved a few months ago. I have a pair of Red Wong Dynaforces that got 1/2 a year of rotated use and 1 year of full use. They’re still going strong and I brought them with me for when I have to do work outside so they’ll last me many years, especially since I don’t work outside anymore. I have no need for something like Brunt’s but thank you for letting others know to look elsewhere.

So I got my my 6" Brunt Toe Marins last year in July or August of 2023. I was running a scooter & bike logistics company and put a ton of sidewalk and pavement walking into these boots. I use the upper foot of the boot to lift and spin around rentable electric scooters. The boots held up ok until maybe 2 or three weeks ago when I used the rear leather loop to pull the boots onto my feet and the stitching ripped and caused one of the leather pull straps to peel from the back of the boot. I also notice a wear pattern on the rear sole of the boot but that is to be expected. I've done a few tree jobs with the boots over the last month or so and they are taking a beating now. Honestly the most comfortable boots I've ever worn but I'm really put off with the fact that the leather pull on eyelette tore from the back of the boot. Then I see this review and kind of shake my head in agreement. I'll probably try the new Brunt welted and the black brunt before I completely call it quits with them based on how good my knees and little fatigue I get while wearing them but long term, I may look into something else. I appreciate the video here.

Later that night saw a video from rose anvil about the new whites moc toes. Bit the bullet and dropped $365 for boots. Kind of regretted it but also excited and curious? That was 3 years ago. Still wearing them, resoled once, and still the most comfortable anything I’ve ever worn on my feet. Can stand all day and walk all day, no pain. And still in great shape. Will be retiring them soon.

As an electrician, and a electrical teacher at the IEC, Ive seen countless apprentices walk in with a new pair of brunt's, and about a month later, they're trashed! I always tell them to just save a few pay checks, and invest into your footwear! It's a night and day difference in being able to work hard in good pair of boots, compared to trash like Brunt! Great stuff Carl!

You described my experience with Brunt down to a T. I purchased a set of Ryng low comp toes, and they were, by a fair margin, the worst boots I've purchased. The plastic eyes broke within a week, they were uncomfortable, and began tearing the stitching after a few weeks of use. I got a pair of Red Wing 2406's after that, and a year and a half later they're still holding up

You have options based on your needs and the price point. Yet, you don't sink into the cheap garbage. I really appreciate that. I know that when I see a review from you. You are going to be honest and that is important. Plus you provide those options. I can spend the big bucks and get the absolute best. Or I can spend a little less and get a very comparable product. I contacted them because I was looking for a cheap pair of boots to destroy around my yard, and needed sizing information. They could not give me CM or JP sizing and kept telling me that they don't sell in Europe or Asia. CM or JP sizing is based on actual measurements and after a week and a half of going back and forth I gave up. They just kept saying that they fit true to size. But the US vs EU sizing didn't match up as they normally do with other brands. If they can't answer sizing information then they don't deserve my money.

@@tstewardson yes CM is centimeters and JP is Japan. JP is also centimeters. They are both the same thing. There is also Mondo sizing sometimes which is Millimeters. Those 3 are the only sizing that uses actual measurements. To properly measure your feet, place a piece of paper against a wall. Stand on the paper with one foot and your heal against the wall. Trace your foot with a pen/pencil. Repeat for the other foot. Then measure the length of your outline from heal to the top of the big toe in CM/MM with a metric measuring tape.

I absolutely can't stand that brand!! I'm glad to see someone roasting them. After years of seeing their annoying ads, there are 2 things that bug me the most: 1) Anytime someone comments on their ads asking about country of origin, they give the same generic response about how they could only find manufacturers in China to make those boots to their comfort and quality specifications. Like a garbage throw-away cemented boot is so rare and only special Chinese factories could meet those rigorous standards. 2) They claim to cut out the middle man and pass the savings onto the customer. Except the prices aren't even good for how low quality their stuff is. I think they use the extra profit on all their annoying ad campaigns and fake reviews.

Couldn't agree more. I write tool and workwear reviews as well, and Brunt sent me a pair for free. I told the rep they were uncomfortable and bulky (and ugly), and they asked what I was used to (Thorogoods). They offered to send me another pair that were more in line with my taste, but I wasn't interested. Fast-forward to a few weeks ago when I finally wore them on a roofing project, and they didn't make it through a single day without the lace ripping completely off of one boot. Laces are replaceable, yes, but c'mon. I know why they're so popular, but it's just shilling.

My Brunt "Work" boots - which I hardly wore - never for any real work - didn't even last a year. The insides wore out. I contacted Brunt as for $170 i would think a year would be nothing for "work" boots and they told me that rather than stand by their product they offer a 30-day return period to be sure you like what you purchased, and that flexibility was better than a warrantee. I disagree. I have boots that have 10-15 years on them, resoled, that are still wearable. Less than a year of light use is unacceptable unless you're buying $50 sneakers. They look brand new except the lining inside is tattered. Junk.

I bought a pair of these a couple years ago, and had a pretty disappointing time with them. I got the smallest size they had in men's (7) and they were still too big, so I had to return them and get a size 9 in women's. That's fine, but they don't sell the women's boots with safety toes. My job didn't require safety toes but they certainly helped from time to time, so I bit the bullet. As soon as I got the new pair, I realized that they fit better. But now they seemed to dig into my shin pretty hard at the top of the tongue. I figured it'd go away once they broke in, but it never did. By the time I got rid of them, my shin hurt even after I took them off. They were comfortable on my feet for 8+ hours a day, but walking on them still hurt that whole time. I really hoped that since their marketing lately has been that their boots are even better than before, I might give them another try. I'm glad I didn't.

I bought the Brunt Marin soft toe’s because I had the Keen Red Hooks and after a year maybe I wanted a more traditional boot look (moc toe). Saw these all over instagram. The composite toe I first got I immediately sent back cause they were stiff as hell. The soft toe would be fine if the sole / outsole was softer. They suck. Stiff and no real give for a wedge sole. The boot itself if comfortable because I got the lined ones (although they don’t breathe well). I wouldn’t get them again.

There are a handful that REALLY do it and most that do some version of it and get away with it. If you're interested in a further discussion lmk it would be great to chat. Another topic would be WATERPROOF and expectation vs reality and at different price points.

That was skeptical at first I know back in 2020 I asked him about an 8-in boot and they said they were working on it so I hadn't went with chippewa's had been wearing red wings411s for years ! Figured I'd give him a try buy some brunt Marin 8 in after about a year and a half later when they first came out I believe in 2022 . Well it's the beginning of 24 and I'm still wearing them, I usually go through about two to and a quarter years before I need a new pair! I would say they held up fairly well I'm in the construction business. Definitely comparable to both Chippewa and Red Wing I noticed the Red wings and brunt are very similar and break-in as far as the comfortable factor, chippewa's dead hold up a little longer but wore out my feet pretty quick, I would definitely give them 7 out of a 10. I definitely will buy my second pair for the price! Red wings seem to fade on the bottom brunt seem to hold up just a little better as far as wear and tear! Everybody's opinions going to differ based on the work they do! But for the price I'll definitely be purchasing a second pair that would have been cool if they would have made an 8-in boot in black! They live 😎

I bought these with knowing who these company was. I bought these when i was a helper in a body shop. I will admit they are comfortable. I can't add photos here so i add photos on my comments on their Facebook adds. So, 7 months on dry concrete NO OIL, NO CHEMICALS , and the outer souls started peeling. The outer souls is maybe 1mm thick. The outer soul is glued on. You can not replace it because they have a FAKE goodwill stitching. Pry you dont get them wet the leather gets hella dark. 7 months it the ABSOLUTE most you will get out if these boots before the 1mm outer soul's glue comes apart and the tread on these last about 5 month. After that the shoes are slip hazards.

Not super wide, and took a gamble on a regular size since they didn't have wide. Super narrow & tight, zero arch support, and non-removable insert. The sole of the boot was a Vibram knock off that was hard as rock. Anyway, my feet hurt like crazy and went numb wearing them.
