I’ve had my Stage 2 tune through MR for the past year and have loved every second of it. With the addition of the DSG tune it really feels like a whole new car. Customer service from them is superb too. Recently did the CP3, egr delete, & 2200 Fuel pressure sensor and the car really hauls now
Yeah I didn’t mean to make it sound like the customer service is bad, I just meant there’s only so much 1 person can do through emails along with regular day to day business stuff. It’s amazing how much these wake up with just the tune.
Nice testing. I used to work as a research assistant when I was working on an advanced degree many years ago. I know how to design and execute a research project. You've done a very good job of doing a relatively simple test. You also did a good job of assessing the variations in the testing and yet stayed quite neutral in your conclusions. Again, nice job and good delivery.
I just did 5+ hours of research and landed on the EOC with MR tuning and also ended up looking at all the same options as you did in the process. Thank you, after finding your video I am confident to order now and will look into a CP3.
Nice comparison. I have been running the MRT 55HP for quite a few months. My car keeps up with a lightly tuned Subaru WRX so I am quite happy with the performance. Fuel mileage didn't really increase massivly, but also right after tuning its been near freezing for 2 months. I have discovered the warmer it is the better my fuel mileage. I was down 25% fuel mileage in freezing temps. Pretty big bummer since I bought the thing as a winter car.
Ive ran a few brands and landed with tunezilla (malone) for our 3..happy for sure customer service is good and they do a nice tune thats for sure....for your cjaa i ended up hunting down a cr170 turbo off uk ebay super cheap shipped to ontario. Its a great way to add way more mid and top pull for super cheap. I kind of miss my cjaa but the touaregs are pretty quick too...looking to put a bigger turbo on my cnrb here this summer

You still have to do your own research and pick the one better for you. Like Josh said the MR tuning is cheaper if your looking to save money. MR removes the EGT, so if you think it is something you fell is needed go with Malone. The units to install tunes are vey different; Malone is definitely better.
@JoshsJettas I understand that EGR delete will reduce the amount of dry soot entering the intake system. The dry soot itself isn't an issue, except that it combines with the PCV/CCV vapours in the intake and gunks up. My car's (Canadian 2013 Golf Wagon TDI w/DSG) extended emissions warranty just expired and I'm planning to delete DPF and EGR. I'm considering getting an AOS. As soon as my warranty expired, I got codes P2002 and P0401. What luck! Question: Is the AOS worth it after the EGR delete?
Is the car you’re testing on deleted? Was on MR Tuning’s website and they don’t really offer an emissions intact tune besides the 25hp one. I’m fairly local to you and have a low mileage stock 2014 Sportwagen DSG if you need another test mule. Enjoy your videos and you nerding out on this diesel tuning, it’s super interesting to me.
Yes it’s deleted, it had a cracked dpf when I did the turbo so figured it was time. I enjoy doing these this vs that videos, hoping to do some more this summer, I’ll have to keep that in mind
I'm getting a lot of smoke at wide open throttle with Mr tuning stage 2 and delete, is that normal? I haven't tried the 25 horsepower tune, I'd assume that one creates less smoke
Are you not concerned with the DMF and clutch in the 6-speed manual for the CJAA? The extra torque from the tune could cause them to prematurely fail. Stage 0.5 seems to be the most appropriate if you're looking for reliability.
As far as stage .5 vs 2? Not really, repeatedly launching it will be harder on the dmf or clutch then your usual sensible driving. Cruising and sensible driving your not going to see/use that increase in power, the odd time you floor it to pass someone or speed up on an on-ramp I can’t see it making a huge difference in overall longevity.
Ok so I’m confused by this test compared to my golf cjaa…you blew the tires off 1st through 2nd.. on my tunezilla stage 2 after first installed best I could get was a chirp in 2nd.. and now it doesn’t chirp 2nd anymore.. so my question is was this test performed with all emissions in tact? Or does this car have a downpipe? My car has all emissions in tact,so if you tell me this car has a downpipe I’ll have reason to believe the downpipe makes a pretty big difference which I was told it does not make a difference much at all.. if you tell me this car has all emissions in tact I’ll say there is something seriously wrong with my tune,my car is fresh with 65k miles and all services done so I can’t imagine it’s the car..either way let me know your thoughts and if this test was run with emissions or if the car has a down pipe.thanks! Deleted with a downpipe, although for reference it had stock size winter tires on it. I’ve noticed with my ALH better tires make a world of difference in the lower gears.

Just wondering if you noticed a difference in power and performance between the the stage 2 with emissions intact vs stage 2 with the dpf delete? People keep saying it adds no performance but I can’t see how that’s possible when removing restriction then adding the tune file add on for the delete. Thanks!
Mine gets some high EGT, even on medium pulls for me with a Stage 3 / CR170 Hybrid Turbo from Tunezilla. My idea is to water methanol inject to lower the EGT's. It will be a fall project for me.
Hi Josh, Im about to pull the trigger on the MR tuning stage 2 w/downpipe. And get rid of all the emissions crap. Now I found a chip called Evolv Chips that is a fuel conserve chip. It usually connects to your mass air flow sensor. They guarentee there chip does not add any permenant programs and can be discounted any time. Should I try it or is it something I can watch you try???
I haven’t heard of those before. Sounds like it’ll fool the air intake amount and lean it out. Personally a tune with properly reading sensors will be the most efficient and if you want better mileage drive easier. The tune will get it running the perfect afr and if you keep your foot out of it it’ll use less furl
Thanks, @@JoshsJettas . Yeah, proabably a waste. My dad has a 2014 Impala and has increased his MPG by 2.5MPG but that's a different story. Well All I can say is I am excited to remove the EGR, DPF, and Exhaust. Im getting about 33-34MPG in my 2011 Jetta Hatchback TDI riding like an a$$hat so hopefully I can get up to 45mpg with the stage 2 MR Tuning program. Going to put a performance intake while at it. Thank for your videos but all I can say is I am dreading changing the timing belt when I get to that threshold of mileage.
I've got a 2013 CJAA (Sportwagen), had the stage 2 tunezilla installed about a year ago. Shop was like 90min away and i've not been able to bring the car back since i had the work done. My question is: What would cause the engine to have some vibration after the installation of the tunes (Had the DSG and stage 2 installed) Things to note, I had the timing belt and waterpump replaced during the same appointment, as well as DPF/EGR delete w/ the rawtek downpipe from the turbo to the stock muffler I took it to a local shop to see if they could explain the engine vibration, and they said the engine mounts "looked fine" and that they said maybe the vibration is from the fact that the factory emissions and exhaust has been removed and maybe that's causing some vibration. I posted a thread about all of this on tdiforum and nobody really gave me any exact possible causes, "check mounts, see if they installed something backwards, etc"
@@JoshsJettas engine doesn't run rough, but if you pop the hood and put your hand on the plastic cover, you can feel a very noticable vibration even when it's in park

Can i do the Tunezilla Tune Stage 2 before i swap out the exhaust? I would install Tune and then reset it back to Stock and have somebody else install the exhaust.
I have a 2014 tdi jetta and I just bought the dpf delete downpipe plus egr block off plate for it. I was wondering if I need to get a tuner or can I just install the pipe without any issues?
I have a CVCA Passat, do either of the tuners offer a top speed limiter removal, or the ability to change the limiter. Also, my car doesn't have a traction control button, do the tuners offer a switch for the traction control?
Correct atleast using the obd read out. You can install an egt sensor like older TDI’s with an external gauge but that’s a bit of work, would be nice if it actually had a read out.
Hey Josh your videos have been very informative and helpful. My car has been in the shop for over a week now and we have been having issues with the powergate as my technician missed a step with downloading the template for the dsg tune. This is the message he has been receiving "“I messed up and didn't load the dual protocol like mentioned above. Cleared everything out and downloaded the template but now Im getting an error message that says, Mod file not present please contact your master (Error F002). Can you help with this or do I still need to contact alientech?" Martin for MR Tuning has really been no help and I don't know if you ever ran into this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
So is the ecu still stock? I did this once, I read the ecu then when I went to upload the file is when I caught on it was supposed to be dual protocol. So your tech updated the powergate with the dual protocol template, did he get a stock read on the ecu again? The update wipes all the data so you’ll have to get another read on the stock ecu (it’ll automatically do dsg this time too) then upload that to the online tune creator
@@JoshsJettas I am not sure where the tech messed up. Supposedly he installed the dual protocol and it says that the mod file is missing I'm guessing. Martin suggested that we send back the powergate and they would send a new one but I don't have time to wait. This shop is a tunezilla dealer I just don't want to be out money for both tunes.
@@JoshsJettas Ok I have the powergate in my hands now. I downloaded the MRTuning software to my computer, plugged the device in, then did the 3rd step where I download the dual protocol to my computer since I bought the dsg tune. Went back to the software, and hit upload template to install dual protocol to powergate, seemed to go well. Next step was to take powergate to car port and hit tuning and select vehicle. The error message I received was Mod File not present please contact your Master (Error F002) Have you experienced this before?
@cobymcclellan6585 I haven’t but maybe the shop got the stock file on there already? If you hook the powergate to your laptop and open the Mr tuning software and click download will it save anything?
@@JoshsJettas They forgot to do the dual protocol initially and I believe they hit erase data in the MRTuning software. It does download stuff, my question to you is if you have a powergate present can you see what the modfile database looks like when you have connected to your computer and in the tuning software? I believe mine is blank and I wanted to see if yours was showing a file of some sort?
