Deleting the dpf etc but keeping egr with malone tuning with dynamic egr. Helps keep you warm in winter warm up faster but shuts off once your up to temp. Better milage with the egr cause the tdi likes to be warm to be efficient. As per malone tuning with a year of testing.
@JoshsJettas
@JoshsJettas 8 месяцев назад
Have you got anywhere to read about this? On these common rail cars they only have a cooler on the low pressure egr which to keep it would require modifying the downpipe to install the egr filter and i cant assume it would work very well without the exhaust flap modified in as well. The high pressure egr is easy to keep but theres A) no cooler B) the point of egr is to cool combustion which i think is the opposite affect of what were trying to achieve.
@kylewilliams6349
@kylewilliams6349 8 месяцев назад
Talked to malone/tune zilla about it. Basically you just delete the egr filter and you can run dynamic egr. With the dpf delete exhaust. Here's the response I got. (Thanks for reaching out. If you are wanting to keep the dynamic EGR function, no need to change any of the plumbing for it. You can do the DPF delete and keep the EGR hardware as is in order to run the dynamic EGR. Hope that helps!)

@JoshsJettas

It can be a pain but you need to make sure the dpf flange and turbo flange are completely mated, you can have it look like it’s close but you set the v band on it it’s still to far away. Another option would be a longer allen bolt to help pull it together, I forget the size but it’s a common bolt.

@RangeTimeRicky24
@RangeTimeRicky24 4 месяца назад
You can call removing it bad but the fact of the matter is that the DPF systems still put out chemicals. The DPF DEF system also reduces fuel efficiency by 50% compared to European vehicles and the only people that benefit are the fuel/oil companies taking your money. Fuel efficiency isn't and wasn't ever a part of emissions testing on any vehicle for the past 30 or so years. --it's all been one giant scam. In BC, Canada the shop I worked for would have to make vehicles barely drivable to pass emissions testing and we later found out about multiple cases where the government facility wasn't purging their test equipment to force people to spend more on testing...basically forced illegal taxing.
@JoshsJettas
@JoshsJettas 4 месяца назад
I won’t disagree, straight emissions out the tail pipe it’s obviously worse but overall emissions from extra fuel, def, def containers, parts and sensors, shortened vehicle life span that’s a different story. You’ve got people paying top dollar and fixing these older vehicles (alh/pd TDI’s) to avoid these emissions issues but I have a hard time believing the newer ones with some modifications are any worse then those.

Can i delete only EGR and keep the DPF?

What is your opinion of a Kerma TDI tune for a CJAA? I recently acquired a 2011 Golf TDI, manual, 90k mi, w/ rebuilt title and want it to be an economical commuter. I drive about 50 min. at HWY speeds and do not anticipate issues w/ DPF. I also do not want a loud exhaust that makes travel unbearable. Would you still recommend a pothole & tune over the Kerma? Thanks for the content, helps a ton.

@Jack-by2hg 2 месяца назад
The Kerma TDI tune is nice. It gives a little more power and the dpf is in regen less often. No smoke, nothing crazy. Perfect if you want to keep the dpf!!
@JoshsJettas
@JoshsJettas 2 месяца назад
I don’t work on these full time but my experience is it’s not if the dpf is going to fail it’s when is it going to fail. If you live in an area that a delete is a grey area (ie not California) then I would get emissions intact tuning through tunezilla or Mr tuning and if the dpf fails then do the delete and just pay the difference. Straight pipe back to the stock muffler sounds near stock, if you didn’t drive it everyday you’d think it was stock.
@Jack-by2hg
@Jack-by2hg 2 месяца назад
@@JoshsJettas the way the folks at kerma explained it to me is the dpf is at a slightly higher temp which helps it not regen as much, and improves performance and gas mileage.

Thank you both for the replies. I appreciate the info, either way I anticipate a tune in my future as I'm not giddy about the current fuel economy. 36-38 hwy ish if you set the cruise and drive. In a matchbox car with a diesel and a stick, that isn't enough to get me excited. If I work it, I can squeeze about 43 out of it. Still servicing it up so hopefully that will improve w/ fuel filter. If you take that trip to Florida and compare tunes, I will be very interested to see what you find for mpgs.
@Jack-by2hg
@Jack-by2hg 2 месяца назад
@@ryankobilansky2500 I get about 45 mpg. Also, another thing about the tune is you can’t romp on it all the time because the clutch was not designed to have quite as much power. I’ve heard of people having issues with that. I haven’t experienced it, but I don’t drive to the potential of the tune. I enjoy the fuel mileage boost and some power when I need it. Hope you have a good experience!!

Hey, egr intact the oil mixes with soot and makes that sticky gummy soot that clogs everything. If you could just get soot without oil it would be less sticky and less prone to clog the intake. Stevenson tuning........hmmmm...... I don't have good feelings about Stevenson anymore. He is up there on the reservation thinking he can do whatever he wants. And he thinks he is far enough away from anyone to ever have to deal with or see a customer in person when he does not deliver for them. I came to him as a customer with a 2011 MK6 Jetta looking to do a delete for fuel economy and obviously DPF delete. He wrote a tune and I passed my state inspection but fuel economy is equal to but certainly not better than stock. To keep a long story short here, the very first few tunes he wrote me was giving me over 50 miles to the gallon City, high 50s Highway. That Tune however was giving me an overboost code, it took over 9 months and multiple versions of the tune for him to finally give up on improving fuel economy. Then instead of Stevens him himself like a man, sent one of his dingbat underlings to tell me that I was getting poor fuel economy because it was cold (winter). Really then why do we have a cold air intake on our TDIs? (Sure Sub-Zero temperatures are no good (but here in the Mid-Atlantic states in December at that time it wasn't colder than 40°)) If cold air is really that bad wouldn't we have a warm air intake instead of a cold air intake? And another thing that dingbat underling tried telling me was that I never got over 50 miles to the gallon, he said that's impossible.. I sent him pictures and screenshots of receipts showing that I have empirical data proving I got well over 50 MPG and that shows me filling up just north of Baltimore and then not filling up again until south of Atlanta Stevenson tuning called me a liar. So choose Stevenson tuning only if you're okay with just getting by and not expecting him to go the extra mile and figure out problems if you have any. Basically if he does a tune for you he's only going to give you the bare minimum and give up instead of taking the time to get it dialed in and figured out.

It’s stupid how much they want for these parts.. the dpf egr filter is literally a 25 dollar part sold for 500, the aftermarket delete pipe is literally 55 bucks in materials.. sold for over a grand. You know the real problem is the Germans are smarter than the American EPA officials, for an example.. if a gallon of diesel fuel takes lets say 500 cubic feet of air to burn clean properly and creates lets say 800 cubic feet of dirty emissions and one can get 100 miles on one gallon of fuel.. then the epa steps in and the update as I own a cjaa jetta and know for a fact I went from 62 average to 22 mpg, at the end the day I still need to travel lets say 200 miles.. the emissions dirtiness would have to be cut in more than half to ultimately be cleaner for the environment.. but instead I now burn 9 gallons of fuel to drive and out out 7200 cubic feet of a tad cleaner air that still would not have passed emissions at time of production "2012".. it only comes out worse.. id rather 1, save money on 4.29 a gallon diesel, 2 put out 1600 cubic feet of dirty air vs 7200 for the same miles.. I know these numbers are off some but do you get my point? 100 miles at 62 mpg =1.6 gallons of fuel, diesel stoichiometric A/F is 15:1, so that comes to roughly around 30,000 cubic feet of emissions "based on temp, throttle amount, and a lot of other things, but back to my point, after "update" check light on all the damn time, and to travel the same 100 miles is now 4.5 gallons of fuel at the reduced to 22 average mpg now, which is 84,300 cubic feet of emissions. And an additional 3 gallons of fuel at 4.29 a gallon.. weight the pros and cons.. Germans had it figured out, Americans chose ignorance and greed over progress....

The DPF does not create significant back pressure, nor do the emissions components inhibit horsepower. That is why the Malone tunes are rated for the same power with, or without the delete. But don’t take my word for it, take a look at DPF differential pressure data from an emissions equipped vehicle. Data doesn’t lie. The DPF doesn’t cause any more restriction than an air filter, but you wouldn’t run without that, would you? Not saying anyone should or should not delete their vehicle, but knowledge of the system is important.

There was a touch of sarcasm when mentioning the "high flow" downpipe. For a stock 140-180hp 4 cylinder diesel I agree your not going to see a big change in power, mileage can be debatable depending on driving habits/active regen requirements. Personally I wouldnt be deleting just for the fun of it but once you get into after treatment repairs ($1700 for dpf/egr filter such as in this case) it makes it a tough choice.
