Great video Kevin. Glad I started off with chase to set up my foundational cards years ago. Even before I Learned of the chase 5/24. I still get the benefits of the preferred w/o the annual fee 😄. Get in while you can because chase and most credit cards in general will often grandfather you in while honoring you with their new majority of the same benefits. Also for adding different eco systems I agree and Amex platinum is my go to business card so definitely get it if you can. I plan on adding the business plus and the venture X to my collection to add to my savor card I got yrs ago before the AF was implemented
@KevinYang
@KevinYang Год назад
Those are some awesome next choices Sam! And glad you find 5/24 useful even without the CSP (yet)!

I think that discover is a good foundational card as well if you have any interest in cash back as part of your setup. Typically, I can maximize 2 out of the four 5% quarters of the CFF, but I can typically maximize 3 out of 4 with discover. Of course it all depends on your particular shopping and spending habits but I generally find this to be the case. Plus, I like a little bit of cash back that I can cash out at the end of the year while I’m accumulating rewards points to save for travel.
@KevinYang
@KevinYang Год назад
Of course! Given they're all no annual fee cards, you could have all of them to cover even more ground too!

I think the Chase setup is lacking on the categories compared to the Citi trifecta (Premier, Double Cash, Custom Cash), the Capital One duo (Venture X, Savor One) and the AMEX trifecta. Chase Trifecta needs a big refresh. Great video, thanks for the info.
@KevinYang

Yeah Citi and others have definitely been more recently refreshed compared to the Chase side. I also think the CSR is due for a refresh too. Thanks for watching!

Since I’m 3/24 due to a bank error my next target would be the citi premier and the capital one venture while mixing in the double cash and savor respectively. I could do chase but that 550 annual on the sapphire is too rich and the citi premier gives 80k and 3x on more categories. I think I might focus on duos over trifectas. Because I can run my rent thru all the cards spend isn’t a big deal.
@KevinYang
@KevinYang Год назад
Personally I have the Chase Duo right now (CFF + CSP), so it really depends if two covers enough ground for your spend! I personally don't need the 1.5x on the CFU and use other cards instead like the Venture X for that spend

I’m new to the travel credit card game but after weeks of researching I came up with the exact same idea you mentioned here - Chase Freedom Unlimited, then Chase Sapphire Preferred and Amex Platinum - I think Amex Plat beats The venture x so I won’t get that card for now - great video!

@ttrruaminpn5755 Год назад
Ok this video is better than others that you say for the cost of the fee you get bonus points. I've seen videos that say you can travel for free because you can cancel the card before first fee but most credit cards charge annual fee on the day you apply or within 5 weeks not enough time to get bonus and use it and cancel it.
@KevinYang
@KevinYang Год назад
Yes you have to pay the annual fee unless its a "First Year Free" card. One that comes to mind was the CSP where you could get it waived the first year. However in almost all cases, the sign up bonus alone more than covers the annual fee!

Duos are the new trifectas....I run the CapOne (Vx and S1) for catchall and grocery/entertainment and Chase (FU and CSP) for restaurants/streaming/ some catchall (just to build points). This way I get points in both systems.

The CFU and CSP is the combo I personally have, and the VX/S1 combo is actually amazing too! Fewer cards to worry about while still getting great value is always a plus!

Right now I have 1 chase sapphire card and I am wanting to fly to Europe and am looking for a credit card to get me points to be able to fly to Europe for free. I have a side business and was thinking of getting the ink business card but it only gives $750 in points for the sign on bonus. What do you recommend I do?
@isaiah1931
@isaiah1931 Год назад
I’m considering the Amex trifecta. The blue for 3% back on gas. Gold for the groceries and restaurants. Then the platinum for everything else. I’m a moderate traveler. I travel every 2-4 months so I think I could benefit from that and make a positive use of the annual fees. Can I get both intro offers for the gold and platinum though?

Hello, I would love some help, tips, or ideas for an upcoming trip. I have a collection of Chase Ultimate Reward points and I am trying to figure out how best to use them! My wife and I are traveling from Phuket to Los Angeles on either July 7th/8th of this year and we are trying to figure out how best to use our points to book airfare. We are not sure which travel partners to transfer points to, or if we should just book through the Ultimate Rewards Portal. Our goal is to maximize our points and hopefully have economy extra legroom seats or better. Please help if you can!

Hi, I have a strange question for you when it comes to credit cards lol. I am thinking about starting to buy large purchases once a month But the companies I buy from generally only will take a wire transfer. I'm thinking about using a credit card to reimburse my business account by having my business account send me a invoice that I could pay with my credit card... Hence giving me all of the points and bonuses that they offer. It kind of makes sense in my head lol. If I were to do something like that which card do you recommend? Each purchase will probably cost me right around $20,000 and to start out I'll do one purchase once a month but gradually it will go up from there. Thank you for the great videos.

As someone who has 5 cards with no trifectas. I think trifectas are overrated. I think the best strategy are disparate cards tailored to each individual circumstance. I think hotel cards that either have no annual fee or an easily/simply covered annual fee plus a card with transfer partners that can be a daily driver is best. Ie aspire and vx. Or marriot and citi premier. Etc

is canceling your card constantly bad for the credit score?
@KevinYang
@KevinYang Год назад
Usually you'd never cancel a no annual fee card, and if there is one, you'd attempt to downgrade to a no annual fee one and keep that instead. If there's really no choice, you can cancel, but if you're doing everything else well, it shouldn't be a significant ding.

Do you mean month-to-month, or hitting minimum spends? For the latter, I only get new cards to hit minimum spend when I know I will have enough spend to do so! This can include picking up the bill in group settings (and venmo back), or asking if I can use my card for big ticket items for friends!

Won’t canceling the credit card every two years cause your credit score to drop? Not sure if that is a good strategy 😅
@KevinYang
@KevinYang Год назад
The effects have been minimal! Cancelling a card would then affect aspects like your history length, overall credit limit, etc. However if you still have many other cards, or getting new ones anyways (which temporarily drop your score maybe 10-20 points), overall you should be good! For context, I've seen people who do this much more than I do with high 700s and 800s. Personally I'm in the high 700s camp.

The main thing is never cancel your oldest card. The others will affect it by only a few pts in the short term. One other thing to watch out for if you are have a ballace on your cards it can affect the debt to avail credit raito.

I m looking to get a new personnal credit card and a new buisness credit card ( i already have the Amex Buisness platinum and the Chase Sapphire Reserve) My goal is to get a new one of each cards who gives me the best conversion when it become to transfer the rewards or points to Air France Airline or American Airline or Singapore as i fly buisness or first class with them often and also to get the best X for Gas, Supermarkets and restaurants. Here is my selection: For Buisness i selected the Amex Buisness Gold and the IHG Rewards Premier Buisness and i would love to know witch one will give me the best transfer conversion with those 3 Airlines? For Personnal i selected the Amex Gold and the Hilton Honor Surpass and i would love to know witch one will give me the best transfer conversion with those 3 Airlines? In case if you tell me to go for the Amex Gold if i transfer the rewards that i will get to my Amex Buisness Platinium it will give me a better transfer value with those 3 Airlines? Also i m open to hear from you if you have a other card in your mind who can give me even better transfer conversions for this 3 Airlines as the ones that i select.
