One of the better astronomy videos. Also refreshing to have someone explain slowly with good intonation. It was a pleasure to watch and I have subscribed.

What a fantastic video, I went out at midnight last night. I started at the Summer Triangle, I was amazed at the beauty of the Milky Way. I was able to follow the milky way south and then north to Cassiopeia. I haven’t been able to see so many stars before. Thank you

Thank you so much w your vids! I’ve been out these last few nights - sooooo clear and can see millions of stars amazing! A cold front always does this!! I was looking for the planet alignment before dawn- I know it’s the 24, but was hoping for a few of them? This was eastern time around 4.

Oh! Forgot to mention I’ve seen THREE confirmed fireballs this year!! The best one was taking out garbage a few months ago- I looked to my left, and from the top of the sky straight down big fireball! No sound, but beautiful colors and tail the split and kind of blew up. Just amazing!!!

Nice views. It's been a few years since I've caught one of those. Normally it's random and not tied to a meteor shower when I happen to see one.

I heard of the asterism, the coat hanger for the first time last year and was pleasantly surprised finding it in a pair of binoculars. I also love the region of the sky in the Scorpius Sagittarius area. There is so much to see with just a decent pair of binoculars.
@LateNightAstronomy
@LateNightAstronomy 2 года назад
Yes there is. My best views of the Dumbbell were at darker skies than my house just scanning the sky with a pair of binoculars.

It is not modified because I also use it to film these videos. I've got a video on DSLR settings if you are interested in more on how I set the camera up to shoot the night sky.

I have a 6 inch dobsonian in a bortle 5. I am hoping to get to see most of these this summer. So far I was able to visualize M13, M81, and M82. Will keep trying!

Sounds like we have similar skies. I can see most of this list with my 8 inch dobsonian telescope from my back yard. Light pollution filters help me get a few more be it for observing or imaging1

If you live far enough south so you can see it, the largest star cluster known in the Milky Way called C80 or the Omega Centauri Cluster. It is visible to the naked eye and here at 32 latitude in Las Cruces, New Mexico it will be visible for about 3 more weeks or so before it dips below the horizon until next Spring. C80 is so massive it looks like an elliptical Galaxy and is 17,000 light years away in the Centaurus Constellation. It is comprised of approx. 10 million stars and is 150 light years in diameter. It was so bright that before telescopes it was thought to be a fuzzy star and given a Greek letter star designation of Omega Centauri. If you live far enough south find a clear view of the horizon due South then 8 degrees West and moving West as it moves down to set around 11pm. As it is only 9 degrees up from the horizon at 9:30pm it is doubtful anyone further North than 40 degrees latitude can see it before it sets. Shoot at 40 degrees North it is still light out at 9:30.

I am planning for that as well. The tree line hurts my views of it in the South but I'm hoping to get to a darker sky for a night of imaging.

the double double actually has six stars i found that out using the Stellarium app and i zoomed all the way in of them and found 3 stars each side

Some great targets. Summer heat limits the enjoyment duration and ever increasing light pollution is a problem, but I'm still trying. A truly dark sky is about four and a half hours away for me but awesome when I can do it.

Thanks a lot for the great tutorial. The summer sky is quite tough though, i live under bortle 5 sky and the bright summer nights don't help at all. Nebulae are my favorite so I'm definitely gonna take a shot with North America, Veil and Dumbbel. I'm trying out an UHC filter, what do you think about it, is it good for nebulae photography under a bright sky or I'd better use a CLS instead?
@LateNightAstronomy
@LateNightAstronomy 2 года назад
Give the UHC a try and let me know how it works for you. I went with a CLS but I bet you will get good results as well. Did you buy the UHC specifically for astrophotography?
@michakubisz535
@michakubisz535 2 года назад
@@LateNightAstronomy yes, it's Expore Scientific 1.25" UHC filter. I've been using it with an old modified Nikon dslr (full-spectrum) and the results was significant (much less artificial light pollution) but I had a lot of problems with focusing and picture uniformity with this camera. I switched to a newer Nikon model (still old though), but unmodified yet. I guess i have to remove the IR filter to see the real advantage of the UHC filter, we'll see :) Clear skies!
@michakubisz535
@michakubisz535 2 года назад
So I finally managed to make a comparison. The difference is quite significant when using UHC filter and the results seem very similar to those when using CLS. I've had some problems as well - vignetting (the 1.25" filter is a bit too small for the aps-c sensor), and white balance (too much magenta) but I could correct most of it in postprocessing (Siril+Gimp). If you're curious please feel free to check out my astrophotography ig @mkubisz_ap :) Clear skies!
@LateNightAstronomy
@LateNightAstronomy 2 года назад
@@michakubisz535 Yeah, color correction is the toughest part of using a light pollution filter, but as you said software can take care of a good deal of it!

I life and in bortle 5 to. When i go over 3 hours Integration time i have a sweet point of breakin the light Polution with my 533mcpro and my canon 600da. While Not using any filter (on the 533 for shure the uv ir cut). I would save money for a dual narrowband and combine it with rgb shots without Filters for great results

I'm surprised you hadn't added the comet C/2017 K2 (Panstarrs). Currently its sitting at mag ~8 and probably will be the best comet to observe this summer, minus a surprise appearance of another. A modest telescope will be able to view the coma and over a period of nights you can observe its trajectory through our solar system.
@LateNightAstronomy
@LateNightAstronomy 2 года назад
I try to make these videos so they can be used year after year. So I keep off the moon, planets and comets. I do hope to mention comet Panstarrs in my upcoming July Night Sky video that will be out late next week!
