Alan, the bail arm is that size due to the length of the spool.obviously if you cast out and the spool is sat quite far forwards, it needs that size bail arm to clear it .👍👍 top video as always. Can Tom lend me a Tena? Lol
Ive got both of the preston distance master's rod .the 13ft and the 14ft .and I have found the same thing that the 14ft seems to awkward for me to cast and I only used it for a few casts and couldn't get on with it. So im looking to put it up for sale soon.
Ultegra XTD 5500 and an Aero X5 Distance Power Feeder (120g) 13ft will get you aywhere you wamt to go on Southfield and it will cost you less than 300 quid . So Tom can buy the 12ft (110g) version too if he's got around 450 to spend Alan 😉
Nice video. I am looking for a long distance feeder rod and have been thinking of the distance master but have now seen that they are bringing out an monster Xtreme distance rod at half the price of the distance master and wondered how they compare.
The Monster extreme is more for carp on the method feeder at extreme distance (90m +), where sensitive tips are not needed because carp bites will just tow your rod in anyway. The distance Master is much softer in the tip section but still has strength in the middle and butt section for distance casting (50-100m). This makes it ideal for bream / skimmer fishing where more bite indication sensitivity is require but this rod is also perfect for carp on the method as well, just not over 100m.
@@richardwebb6045 Many thanks for the reply. Since posting I had a look around and decided to go for ascensions at 3.4, 3.8 and 4.0. Although I have only used them a couple of times, I am very pleased with them and they cast more than enough distance that I need with braid. I am not sure if the ascensions have been discontinued but there are some good deals about at the moment.
@@drumbatter100 No the Ascensions are not discontinued. They are nice rods too and even softer than the Distance Master, although designed really for up to 60m casts.
@@richardwebb6045 Thanks. The last time I went out I fished the ascension 4.0 comfortably at a measured distance of 81 mtrs with a 60gram window feeder. At the end of the day I unclipped the line and had a few chucks and 100+ mtrs was easily achieved. This rod will cast upto 120 grams and I haven’t yet had the chance to work out it’s optimum casting weight, which I would think is probably about 15% less than the stated casting weight (this is what I have found with most rods over the years). Looking forward to some good weather so that I can get out and put them through their paces.
berkley pro spec line, i use it for everything, 12lb is 0.28mm for long range 8lb is 0.22 for mid range 6lb is 0.20 for everything else used it for years and never had a problem with it@@Jenson80
Guys great video but my preference would be something a lot cheaper . Trouble with tackle dealers is that it's not about getting rich in a couple of years it's about making money constantly. How comes the Chinese market is so much cheaper and it's good quality. So sad to think that you have to buy overseas instead of supporting your own country's business's.
