Don't be fooled by the simplicity of this exercise. This drill is much harder than it looks and if you can develop the skill to scuff the ground exactly how you want in the presence of the golf ball then you will always strike your chips solidly.
At the same time as honing your concentration, you are also refining some of the hidden finer points of the short game such as your angle of attack and use of the bounce.
