As I’ve said when we meet on the Expo last year, you are absolute asset and gift to our lovely community man💪 Your work is highly appreciated from so many fellow sim racers worldwide and the love you receive is well deserved 🤗 Big hug Suellio and thank you for everything you do for us ❤️
man... sincerely, this is the most honest simracing content channel out there. Your passion is truly inspiring to all of us i'm sure, to the point in which I wasn't planning on practicing today but i suddenly just want to. Thanks for being our "common sense voice", champ. Never stop having fun!
I saw Suellio's movie a while ago and I tried to make such changes to the way I drive, I see improvements in times that make me optimistic, but I know that I still have a lot of work ahead of me. thanks guys for what you do for the whole community
Been following Suellio for a year and had his course for 7 months, he's an absolute legand! Taught me so many skills that i didn't know before, went onto win the daytona 24hr this year because of his advice. It's amazing how far he's come in just a few years from going to univerisity for his Piano degree to becoming an irl racing driver in just a few short years!
Wait what? I won? Omg this is crazy! I was typing another comment when I saw that part of the video jaja was about to say I would loooove to see the video of Suellio coaching you.
Mine too, and I found Suellio thanks to Steliyan as well. But rbm really made me enjoy sim racing and esports in general. I used to be super stressed about winning all the time, but watching him made me realize I was more focused on winning than enjoying, and once you turn it around, you actually get better. It is crazy how that works, and even crazier that a guy creating videos on the other side of the world can make such an impact in your life and realize how to enjoy life a bit better.
I had this same realization… the less relaxed I am the worse I drive. Sometimes I have to step away from the rig and take a break so I can reset and come back with a cool head ❤ I 100% agree. Awesome to see you shouting out Suellio too! I’ve learned a ton from both of you!
That step away from few hours frustrating practicing always helped me a lot💪 Also sleeping over those harsh trending sessions was the best as next day things looks to have been improved on themselves. I found at some point there was biological reasons behind that trough the Huberman podcast where he explains how brain works and turns out, the frustration unlocks chemicals which helps neuroplasticity and in deep sleep brain is practicing the correct pattern but in fast speed and clean the mistakes 😃 After learning that process I stopped being frustrated being frustrated if that makes sense 😁
Its always so refreshing to see someone thats so passionate about their hobby. I think for the most part a lot of people wont get to understand this, especially when its applied to a video game. I stumbled across your channel a few weeks ago, it was the video about you building your immersive sim set up, and I was blown away that there are other folks around the world that would go that extra mile to really accomplish a dream of theirs no matter how silly it might be in other peoples eyes (FYI your set up is amazing!), your a great inspiration to your viewers, and look forward to following you across your journey, keep up the good work!
You know what’s amazing about all of this , is that we all have the potential to be better drivers in the sim. Being more adaptable and aware of surroundings. I think the best advise I ever got was just two. Listening to the tires and loosening the grip on the wheel and allowing the FFB to surge through my hands. The more you listen to your tires the more you’ll understand better grip and points of oversteer and understeer a lot …by loosening the grip on the wheel you’re allowing the feel of grip to be felt through your hands. Definatly one of your best videos to date! And would be so awesome to own those pedals ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I've only been following these 2 guys for a little bit of time now, however they have been a Godsend to the Sim racing community in my opinion. They've helped me shave secs off my lap times. Thank you guys , sincerely. Thank you
100% the truth. Having the same problem and knowing about it. Can control it when I realise it, but drop back into the tension after a while... Still working on it
It is crazy when we are aware of the problem and give it little attention to see how obvious the tension is 😁 I must constantly remind myself to relax and I do that for months and still finding my body in that state often 🙈
I saw that exact video awhile back, and realized myself just how tense I was for entire race sessions. A very hard habit I’ve been trying to break, but when I am conscious of and staying relaxed when driving in sim it truly is a world of difference in lap times, car feel and just how much longer I can race. It’s nice seeing you share this as it really is a great piece of advice. Big cheers as always!
I'm happy that some underrated youtubers are getting recognized, I've been following Suellio for a long time now and wondering why he has as much subs as he does. BOTH OF YOU DESERVE MORE SUBS! I love your setup by the way I'm really jealous
Man i'm working curently on my driving with Suelio's online course ! It's a banger ! Also, i achieve a part of the dream by getting my first ever DD, the alpha mini from simagic with the gt neo wheel and i'm loving every bit of it ! Simagic always on top of their game ! Thanks for the great video as always and keep inspire people with your work brother ! Have a nice one and thanks you very much for all you've done for the community and for what you'll be doing in the future ! Cheers 🍻🍻
I struggled with over driving when I transitioned to iracing from Gran Turismo, and never realized how bad a driver I had been utill going up against real people. I signed up for VRS and would analyze my telemetry against good drivers, but could not probably identify my mistakes and was always 2 sec behind the best laps. I eventually quit in 2021, but about 6 months ago I saw one of Suellio's videos and went through all his RU-vid videos. I got back on iracing and with a better understanding of slip angle and following his lessons I am a lot closer to best lap. The way he explains everything clicks better for me than any others I have watched. I'm buying his book soon and will probably get 1 on 1 lessons after replacing my T300 with a aeztek invicta. Both of you keep up the great content, and may all your laps be clean ones!
Hey Phil, being two seconds slower then the best times is not something unusual on iRacing and if I jump in car which I haven’t driven before, I’m always +1sec and more 🙈 It takes time to bring some pace but as you’ve said, Suellio is a king of braking things down and identifying the problem. Just enjoy the journey and don’t think much about the aliens lap times 🤛
Being stiff and in tension is general problem in everything. Billiard, playing guitar... Guy who was teaching me trial (I like technical mountainbike riding) gave me the advice which I try to apply everywhere, and it really helps. He said: "smile when you are doing your stuff. Smile relaxes your body, this is how our organism works. And sing, or talk to yourself."
O just boight suellio's checklist, I hope I do get better with it. It gives me hope to see someone like you benefitting from that kind of knowledge even at your level.
Rubens Barrichelo said this in an interview! He was saying you should imagine that you are holding a bird, and if you put too much pressure you will crush it.
So amazing seeing a crossover between two of my favorite sim racing channels, especially seeing one of Suellio's lessons in action. Tension is a real problem both performance- and health-wise!
kalispera file moy..with your video my sim racing experience goes to next level...many thanks that you help us to upgrade our simring with ideas and advice..!!! keep that nice videos mate
man, this is great advice! I noticed this instantly in the FR500S. I constantly have to remind myself to back off, ease into the inputs and breathe. It has allowed me to become smoother, care for the tires, and not abruptly load up the car to a point that it binds the suspension and tires. Also the brakes, am able to gently apply and modulate. So, along with the hands, the inputs of the feet/pedals are also something that is easier felt when relaxed. Thanks for all the work you guys do! Great coverage.
I bought suellios course 2 weeks ago and my driving had already improved so much amazing way he has of explaining very in depth concepts in a digestable way
I can't express how much Suellio has positively affected my driving. I went from being a typical newbie plugging away in the starter series to competing for wins in 3k+ IMSA lobbies in under 6 months. His course is worth every penny and his 1 on 1 coaching is great too.
I always watch your videos on my TV. Unfortunately, I can't comment, but your videos are really great. They always relax me. You explain my passion in your videos so well, you're like an artist
You're raising a very interesting point. You actually put words on the difference of sensations from one day to another. One day you feel relax, in natural control, and the next you feel tense and battle owth the wheel and everything. For sure some trivks like lower the ffb can help. But lile you said its more an internal fight, we have to be on consciousness of this issue and trying to relax the arms and fingers. One thing that helped me, is to add an harness, even before going to motion system. With a harness tour naturally more focusing on control, as your body is fixed.
Light hands! I am new to iRacing but it was love at the first corner! Last night in a Rookie race, I felt what you said. My whole body was rigid and I was holding my breath. Once I breathed out and let go, it became easier to feel the rhythm of the track. I don't remember what position I came, second to last I think but the whole experience was transcendent for me. Thank you for sharing this video and what an amazing set up you have.
I really love both your and Suelllio's channels because you have always been sharing joy and making positive influences on the sim racing community. Thank you. In the past two years, I was chasing the ultimate realistic force feedback setup until I developed a trigger finger problem. I then started realizing I needed to lower the force feedback and relax. I experienced all the same problems you did, and now I am constantly trying to avoid making the same mistakes again.
Fantastic tip I only recently changed to bending a little more at the elbow and has helped me stay relaxed and able to drive for longer .Keeping a light touch on your wheel is important too as you rightly say.
Another great video Steliyan. I remember watching Suellio's video about being relaxed and having soft hands and I found it very useful. He's a very knowledgeable young guy and it was nice to meet him last year in Dortmund, and you too of course! 😉 I only have 8Nm FFB available and if I start to tense up I lose all the fine detail in the steering. I love how everyone in the sim racing community helps each other out with problems.
I tried this yesterday after watching your video and relaxing my grip did help. It’s a similar lesson that’s taught in golf. Grip the club firmly enough to hold a bird without crushing it. Same logic seems to apply to racing. Thanks for the helpful info.
What is crazy is. I know this from Karting then moving to Auto racing but yet when Sim racing I completely forgot to do this. Thank you for posting this
Excellent advice!! I often see my times suffer the harder I try. I try to focus on relaxing during adrenaline spikes, but this is an excellent reminder to pay more attention in the moment and remind myself to relax. Thank you for the great video.
Amazing points by Suellio about the tensing up. I find myself doing that all the time and tell my self I need to loosen my grip but can never seem to make it happen. Great video as always
Hey mate. Just commenting to thanks you for the high production quality in your videos and the valuable advice you provide in them. You got me into simracing, thanks to your videos i build my rig, made my loadcell pedals with some plans i found online and even started streaming.
Great video as always Steliyan. I thought i am the only one who holds up the breath in intense driving situations where i am really at the limit. I also have this bad habbit of gripping the wheel hard and actually giving attention to it really helped. And i totally agree with you, Suellio is really changing the sim sim world. He is big gift for the sim world. Thank you for everything you did for the sim community. Keep up those great videos! Cheers Mate! 🍻🍻
I have been competing for many years in brazilian Jiu-jitsu man vs. man tournaments. And it's totally the same in anything else in life and also in sim racing which I also do. Stressing up want help anything at all. But I would say don't overthink to much just do it and have fun with it. Cheers love your channel and your crazy cool setup.
Priceless. Thank you. I drive with headphones and often get told by others in the room that I stop breathing. We get tense and so caught up in the moment that we interrupt our biological autonomic system.
I've recently discovered this technique and my performance skyrocketed! I'm at my best when my mind is focused and my hands relaxed. I started looking at every difficult section of a track from "elevated" standpoint, meaning, i don't look at it as difficult and increase my grip on the wheel, instead, i just think about how much braking i have to do and which line to take. This way i stay relaxed and my mind is clear to calculate next few turns. Great video btw, love the content!!!
I realized this last year, I always naturally gripped harder and tensed up when I wanted to push the car harder. The realization stemmed from hearing a NASCAR spotter tell their driver to loosen up, take a deep breath, and be smooth. I made a conscious effort to relax myself mid-race, and my pace increased because I didn’t get tense.
38 year Simulation guy one more time….sorry. lol Suellio is an amazing gift to us Sim racers as you said. But I would like to take his comments and your thoughts one step further. It all comes down to breathing. Muscle memory is almost magical but it can work against us. You spoke of not having issues when nothing was on the line so you can only test this when pushing your lap times. I challenge everyone to pay attention to their breathing when entering that corner they just never get right. Odds are you’re holding your breath by the time you hit the apex. This lack of breathing smoothly also becomes muscle memory. And back to Suellio’s point, calm hands relate to calm breathing.
Man , that makes so much sense and maybe breading is what I have to change first. I must do very deep research and see how can I can give more attention to breading first and signal maybe my body the relaxing state! My that’s the first reason which pushes me in that stress state to begin with 🙈 What eye opening is your point 💪
@@chepilevski So as you said, recognizing the problem comes first. Push for lap times but focus on the muscle memory of your breathing. As soon as you start to pause your breathing suck in a really big breath. This will help to break your muscle memory. Your driving skills are of a professional level, the mental side is the only thing holding you back. And to explain this fully, the intake of oxygen is the answer. Breathing correctly means the proper amount of oxygen. Although not an exact correlation, the G-suit Fighter Pilots wear is about blood flow and oxygen levels. And back to the less is more conversation from before, you said you turned down the power of your wheel, I hope others realize what you’re saying. And you are so great at replying to my comments…..Thank you
This is so true. I saw somebody in a reddit comment saying once they stopped gripping their Thrustmaster T150 like it was a crazy strong 12nm DD wheel, it changed everything. So that's exactly what I did. Stopped gripping my T150 like it was a crazy strong 12nm DD wheel. It really really does make a huge difference. And even now with my CSL DD, I have to remind myself I'm not driving a real racecar, so I can loosen my grip for better control.
He is great. The best advice I got from Suellio was neutral steer, which we don't get to see much of in GT7's Group cars, but since the update, I can brake 5-10m later in MR cars like the RSO1 & the Mclaren and just keep the wheel pinned at 0° while the rotation does all the work. That advice alone got me 50th one week, then 130th the following week. I'll continue to refine this technique.
I've been focusing on practicing a smaller group of tracks lately and I can vouch for the "light hands" thing. The more confident I am through the corners, the lighter my hands get and can feel the finer details of the road. Problem is, I'm not on direct drive and have a really notchy TMX. So I can't gain any true consistency outside of ACC. Congrats to the winner though! That's a big prize!
Congrats for your success. You don't even know how much you really inspire and help me to build my sim setup. Always take times for watching your videos and try to take time to analyze and search before buying new stuff for my setup. I'm also a big fan of Suellio and I can't wait to watch something about simracing with both of you in it.
i really have comend you for supporting the community and giving credit where it is due Suellio is a phenomal driver and gives amazing advice I magine it translates over to his coaching i have yet to have to previlage of having a coaching session with him and as always i love the set up
I glad music was mentioned. As a musician I know this well. The tension is a killer. Same in golf as well, and I'm sure many more things. Gotta stay loose, but ready. Flow, don't force. Another great video! :D
Great advice! Something I learned years ago autocrossing and apply in sim racing, but something I constantly have to be aware of, it's easy to find yourself in the heat of battle tensing up. Cheers, love the videos.
It's very good to see someone so serious about simracing. This is videogame, but it is also a sport for those who are less fortunate and can't invest in "real" races. Simracing offers easy access to competitiveness for those who like it. Keeping improving is a real motivation and passion. This subject is on the spot for me, because I think this is my biggest mistake. But, for me, tensioning my muscles actually makes me faster. I'm able to do really competitive lap times. But it doesn't take long for the consequences to appear. In less than one hour of racing, I start to feel pain on the arms, on the hands, and on the lower back. I have blisters on my fingers. If I try to relax, my lap times instantly get worse, and I start to make silly mistakes. The problem gets worse on sharper cars like the Porsche 992. So I have a lot of work to do, and I'll start to practice the suggestions stated in this video immediately. Ignore the mistakes and keep going. Thanks, I am now a new subscriber to this channel.
Thank you very much for your videos and advise. I really love the fact that you not only share your own experiences and knowledge but also from other sim racers or channels. That tells me you really care for your viewers and fellow sim racers. Always teaching and inspiring. Thank you Sir 👏🏻🙏🏻💪🏻
I follow both of you because you help not just with the physical, but the mental aspect of learning how to drive. Thank you for your content and effort!
You're sim racing since 06!!! Wow, that is crazy, I didn't know anything about sim racing until November of 2022. I mean I have owned every Gran Turismo game since the first one but I only thought of it as another game until I saw you and others playing on the wheel and I got a G29. I never even knew these types of things even existed. I upgraded to a Fanatec direct drive wheel and Ioad cell because I fell in love with sim racing. I'm fast but I am still a novice with bad habits but I have come a long way. Thank you for all your help and advice and I dream to have an amazing setup like yours one day.
i got a nice advice while i was doing 24H Spa. "relax your shoulders" and when i did, hands relaxed as well... so whenever im stiff i remember, relax your shoulders, breathe and remind yourself few times in the race
This is an information that every real life racer knows , the reason is mostly physical in first place until you find out by your self that relaxation gives you lot of flow and smoothenes.
I was so tight strengtenth body that i pulled the Table with my wheel away from its place while driving. Something changed after not riding for about a week. Now the table stays at his place =) So still my Gas foot near the hip hurts when driving longer and my finger do cramp a bit. So Thanks for this great advice. I make it like you now. Ignoring mistakes and getting more relaxed.
Funny you posted this today. I noticed this yesterday while driving lmp3. Once I relaxed and feel input of the wheel. I was able start predicting counter steer and stop spinning out when weight changed.
To relax and connect with the car and your sensations I suggest - Stretching before driving - Starting the first lap gently, and holding the steering wheel just by putting your fingers on it. - Do your race session like its a practice one. - Listen Reggae music :)
