I’m watching on my phone’s small screen, so my first impression was “why is this bike stand holding a big mill head?” 😂 And then I realized you have a new cnc mill in the background! The Remco bike stand is super cool, but really, I would love to get a tour of the mill. Exciting!

Funky looking stand eh?? 😁 I typically don't film in there, but the sun was so bright in the other room 😬 That CNC mill is sweet. Converted it from floppy to USB, but still mostly use it as a super sophisticated knee mill with a DRO. More capable than I am for sure.

I had the same initial reaction, and also found myself interested in learning more about the CNC machine... From what I have heard used equipment like that can be found at bargain prices, but space for them is the hard part.

A cheap alternative to an ebike stand is a Harbor Freight hoist positioned above your workstand..sells for $120.00, and it has a 400lb capacity..

Yep! There are options at just about every dollar amount ($0 being, of course, just pick the bike up 😉). All about finding what's right within your needs and budget!

Fun to see how bike techies furnish their workspaces around the world. Most of my experience with bikes is from Holland and just about EVERY bike mechanic here has a small motorized winch to hoist up a double hook, typically one in the front and one in the rear side of the bike to keep it balanced. I really love it as the bike hangs secure by it's own weight so you'll be able to put force on some parts that need to be screwed on really tight. But also because it hangs from a slack line or a rope, it's still maneuverable to any position the current job requires you to have it at. These systems are dirt cheap, most models that are capable of effortlessly lifting a 100lb bike are somewhere between $200/400. Furthermore, since these systems are mounted to the ceiling it provides a clean floor which really adds to their vallue. Because of the small footprint they require I was able to hang 2 in my tiny backyard shed so I can keep my longer term projects hoisted up and still be able to work on smaller jobs when I need to. Have you ever worked with these? What are your thoughts on them compared to the ground stands that are more comonly used across the Atlantic pond from Europe?

Over here, the hoist is usually still used in conjunction with a stationary stand (for bicycles) - mainly used for lifting only. There are some limitations for ceiling mounting in a lot of spaces - but for the spaces that allow it, it's a great alternative! In the US, in my limited survey, the lift stand is more common but also cargo bikes are less common (mainly only working on traditionally double diamond - esc bikes). My very subjective experience is disliking the movement of a suspended bike, in favor of a bike that is solidly clamped to a stand. But I think that's like people disliking SRAM or disliking Shimano - it's all what you're used to!

I have had mine for a good month. Pros: very quiet, smooth and simple. Con: Like your video I ended up not only replacing the lever but decided to replace the whole receiver by cannibalizing my Park Tool® stand. Perfect once I did this but this will add to the cost. As for the automatic stop I don’t find it an annoyance to lower the bike and stop just before it touches the ground and release the “rotation” lever just enough for the front wheel to touch then continue lowering a little more. Sounds like a long process but it is not. Good review. I know I should not place caps in a comment but I must emphasize my thought on this stand I LOVE MINE A LOT!

I had a "double neck" park tool stand so no removing the receiver - cool that Remco will also just sell you one with the post that you can put your Park on if you already have one like yours. The tip about loosening is good! I also found that with the EVT clamp installed, the bike doesn't typically fully contact the floor anyway so the ground sensor is doubly unimportant to me.

Had to get a little cut in there, they're going to take over the world if we aren't careful 🤣🤣

Your experience with the stand was mine as well. As I recover from surgery, I haven't been able to put the miles on it like I hoped, but it seems great and yeah, the locking lever sucks. I did exactly as you did with the Park lever and problem solved. The only other complaint I have is the height. I plopped my Park clamp in and the stand was far too low at the highest setting. I like the Park clamp largely because of the cam feature. I ordered the EVT clamp because it does add the height I need and is now within an inch of my normal clamp height. The EVT clamp is obviously very nice, but I miss my cam action for quick in/out. So, the price of my stand was several hundreds more because of my need for the offset clamp. My preferred stand height is pretty normal for the shops I've worked at and I am a very average 5' 9.5". All in all a great review and thank you for adding all the weight to test the noise/speed. Oh, I would add this seems to be the most friendly lift assist stand for mobile shops, next step is to install my inverter and Remco stand in the van.

I do wonder if an additional height option would be in the cards for them as an accessory. I used to miss the cam function, but it was offset quickly by almost legitimately never having to move a seat post again 😁 My second favorite clamp is the modern park with the screw-type cam - like the best of both worlds.

I have the Unior electric stand and it's a total game changer.. I couldn't use a stand that doesn't stop when something hits the ground, imagine having the bike on the stand with the fork significantly lower than the rear end and dropping the stand to work on something without realising the carbon forks are heading for the ground at a bad angle with 250lbs of force, no thanks!!
@NeutralSupportNews
@NeutralSupportNews 4 месяца назад
The unior stand might necessitate that because it goes lower - a bike in this stand wouldn't touch the ground at basically any angle unless it had wheels on it. If at a dramatic angle and somehow touching the ground, the clamp would pivot the entire bike at a much much lower pressure. But hey, like anything, being attentive when operating machinery is key! Sensor or no sensor

I really like the modular concept of this and the performance seems great. But I am seriously worried about the lack of a ground sensor, not so much from the perspective of damaging bikes, but from the perspective of hurting people or pets. If you look at garage door openers, they have several safety mechanisms to keep anyone from being crushed, and the maximum downward force is much, much less than this, even if all the safeties fail. Even if a force sensor was not adequate to always work just right, it could at least reduce the risk of crushing and/or entrapping living things.

@NeutralSupportNews 4 месяца назад
I take your point - with any piece of machinery, attentive operation is super important! This scenario is absolutely worst case, single point rigid contact straight down simulating if the stand is lagged to the floor. Any single point on a bike would overcome the clamp cylinder force and more than likely pivot. Worth noting also, the EVT clamp raises nearly every bike a few inches off the ground at the lowest point - so this scenario would probably just never happen. But it does illustrate the WORST possibility you could ever encounter.

@@NeutralSupportNews good point that the not-quite secure clamp serves to limit it. I hadn't thought about that.

Will this take any head from a major manufacturer? I have a Feedback HD Pro and would love it if it fit.
@NeutralSupportNews
@NeutralSupportNews 4 месяца назад
If it will fit in a Park receiver or what is considered the "standard" professional type receiver, totally! They sell a version with a Feedback clamp included, but not sure if feedback makes a "special" version for repair stands other than their own.
