The Lotus Emira has already dropped significantly in price from a used perspective, given these were around £90k new, and can now be had under £70k! But is it actually any good? Is it even a real Lotus? I find out in this video!
I hope you enjoy!
Thanks again to Motorland in Beckenham for letting me take the Emira out for a drive! Check them out here: www.motorlandltd.com/ or on Instagram/RU-vid @motorlandltd

Just got mine a few weeks ago. V6 with the manual and Touring suspension. As good as it looks in videos and photos, it looks even better in person. Interior is clean, pure styling but the leather interior is definitely nice. Nothing about it looks or feels cheap. It's not a lazy car. You don't just get in and immediately you're super. He's right in this review. You have to pay attention and drive it. It's not going to do everything for you, but if you are willing, it will work with you in a way that's just sublime. Once you get to know it, wow.

"... once it's deprecated enough" Exactly! Got my V8 R8 just over 18 months ago and I'm in love with it, 100% a car for life. However, I am already looking at reviews of current cars like this or possibly the C8 Corvette Z06 to see what potential car I may get in around 10 years time once depreciation hits rock bottom (and common issues reveal themselves).

Good job and video. Live in the U.S. and have one. Very fun car to drive and gets massive amounts of attention. Nothing else at this price comes close to looking as good. BMWs/Porsches have all become very sanitized in driving. Not this car.

JB i honestly love your channel bro. I look forward to EVERY video with great anticipation. I’ve been watching your channel, and have been subscribed for years now. Honestly man your knowledge and insight on cars is second to none!!! Sorry if I sound cringy or a mad crazy fan lol But it’s genuine respect!! I’m a driving instructor and I suggest your channel to ALL my learners. I urge them to watch and subscribe to your channel before they buy their first cars. As I tell them your videos let people know about insurance, price, performance, what to look out for with reliability and what are reported faults by owners etc etc etc. I am currently saving like mad for a sports car as it is my absolute dream to own one before I’m too old and look like I’m having a mid life crisis lol. I know you probably aren’t allowed to, but if you can, I would greatly appreciate advice on what you would recommend for an entry level sports car that is reasonably affordable? I’m hoping (dreaming) of owning a lambo, ferrari or Mclaren one day. But I’m thinking that maybe to start my ownership into a sports car that a porsche Cayman or something similar would be a safe bet, in terms of depreciation and sell on value?? If you would be so kind as to suggest what you would advise please 🙏🏻 As I really value your expertise!! I would greatly appreciate it, and then some!! If you can’t for legal reasons or showing favouritism towards certain manufacturers I totally understand. No harm in asking I suppose lol Thanks in advance 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

@CarsWithJB 15 дней назад
I hugely appreciate the kind words! Glad you like the channel/glad it’s potentially useful for your students 🤙🏽 Luckily the main reason why I don’t work with any manufacturers right now is so that I can remain unbiased - no one’s ever paid me to say anything about a car, hence I don’t have to sugar coat anything! I’ll work on a ‘first sports car’ video with those kinds of parameters soon to help, but my honest suggestion is to go with the car that’ll make you happy for the right price. You have to know what kind of driver you are - what is it about a car that makes you smile? If it’s how it looks then go for the one that looks the best, if it needs to feel planted then go for the one that’s most planted, if it’s most analogue then go analogue, if it’s aggressive and scary to drive then go down that path and I can recommend any which way! But whatever it is it needs to keep you smiling for a while so that you’re satisfied while you keep working towards the big dog car 😅 That’s honestly why I haven’t bought anything silly yet - my MX-5 ticks so many of my boxes right now (raw, aggressive, analogue) that I can’t make going for something else make sense! But cars I don’t reckon will depreciate too much more that I’m guessing are in the right range for you (no idea what your budget is): 981 Cayman and Cayman S (don’t sleep on the non S, and don’t sleep on the boxster, effectively a cheaper route in), 987 Cayman R, Alpine A110, F-Type S (insurance will likely be a nightmare), S3 Exige S (I would want a sport but an S is great value), an Evora in the right spec, 997 Carrera S, Vantage or DB9 (just know if the clutch goes in that vantage it won’t be depreciation you need to worry about, same story with the DB9!), TVR T350 (if you want a lifestyle change but something unreal!), and maaaybe a more recent Granturismo S (maybe not as safe from depreciation but I feel like it’s mostly bottomed out at this point and what a stunning car) More reliable, safer from crazy depreciation, fun to drive, good looking: one of the 981 Caymans might be a good bet, but again I would ignore all of those suggestions personally if you already know what you look for in a car, that should be the starting point!
@MrRoyck10
@MrRoyck10 14 дней назад
At that price point I will buy the Cayman 718 GTS 4.0 over the Emira, if it drops further then it becomes a very attractive proposition. I really like the exterior design but not keen on a Toyota Camry engine! Emira is a consider for me, thanks JB

I opened up Autotrader and it saves your last search...ah yes, Lotus Emira 😆 Didn't entirely expect to see this review, got to be a dream one! It's not really the right car for my next one, but it's the only sports car I would consider after the 981CS. It's got probably my favourite V6 (no bias...much) and that Lotus magic. On top of that, it has an interior - I'd love a Lotus, but I do value an interior 😄 Depending on the state of the world in a few years, I might want one... I think there is hope for BEVs though, perhaps in the form of Caterham rather than Lotus though, but we'll see. Either way, I'll be having a go in one of these in the not-too-distant future, got to do it.

Haha 100% you’ll enjoy it, during the drive I thought of you and the 981, it’s like a more ‘involved’ version of the 981 to drive, not just handling but even if you look behind my head you can literally see the throttle open and shut! Definitely give one a go and let me know what you think of it

As an owner of a very similar spec, sport not touring, with a carbon kit from CT Carbon I agree with everything youve said, but..... 695 miles and the recalls to be done: Wiper motors HVAC sensor (buried deep under everything at the front) A pillar air bag restraints Brake pads (crumbling apart) Main screen dead after 25 miles Rear indicator fault (wheel off and lining out to check the connector fitting USB media input not working SOS warning on Engine light intermittent fault Oil pipe to gearbox to be checked (maybe replaced) Driver side carpet protector coming off Seatbelts to be replaced Various panels to be adjusted Water cover under front 'bonnet' to be fitted to avoid water ingress Design fault: Rear boot pours water into the luggage area and on the engine when lifted after rain/washing Love the car to drive but I've never owned a car that has had so many faults new. WeBuyAnyCar wont touch it with all the faults. 🤦🏻‍♂️

I almost crashed my car today. I was going round a corner I had done a hundred times so I went round pretty quick. I slowed down because it was wet though, maybe I didn't slow down enough or I strayed onto the painted lines but either way the back end came out. I was just zipping along and then suddenly I was drifting at 50mph in a FWD hatchback. I immediately reacted though and tried to correct myself but I overcorrected because I reacted so quickly. Then I was sliding to the left into the oncoming traffic lane (there were no other cars im very grateful for) then I overcorrected again and I was sliding right again but I got it back to normal on that attempt and continued on like nothing happened. I think the truck infront saw it happen though because they slowed right down for the rest of the road. I managed to correct the slide but man if there was oncoming traffic. It was rly scary but I'm very prideful on the fact I have a quick reaction time and critical thinking skills. I think it saved my car. Point is watch out for the wet roads man. They have such a huge effect on grip its scary.
@ApothecaryTerry
@ApothecaryTerry 17 дней назад
Absolutely, wet roads change everything. In some ways, they can be safer- losing the rear in the wet tends to be much more progressive and controllable than in the dry, snap oversteer is much rarer (which is, of course, the "I'm on the roof and have redecorated my outsides with my insides" one...), but the wet makes risky things happen at lower speeds. I'm a huge proponent of people learning to handle this stuff. If you've never slid a car, you've got very little chance of getting it right if it happens. People also really need to stop buying bad tyres, it's like people don't realise those are the only things that touch the road (except the roof if it goes wrong), or how much difference they really make. One huge problem in the wet - you can't see stuff like oil on the road. My last car was a Cayman and a couple of times I hit oil patches in the wet and it just went, 45 degrees with the rear heading towards a barrier before anyone could react (as a gamer and driving nerd, my reactions are also pretty reasonable). Both times under 30mph, once getting undertaken by a lorry so it's not always about what speed you're doing either. In a mid-engined car, that was electronics to the rescue, even a proper pro driver isn't saving that, I'd have had no chance 😄
