I think the reason that people say the beginning of One Piece is hard to get through is because of it's near legendary status in the anime/manga community. The things that people hype up about the series aren't fully showcased in the first few volumes.

Looking forward to your future with One Piece. And yeah names: Luffy: Loo-fee Zoro: (I know what the translation spells it as but it's Zoro) Nami: Nah-mee Usopp: Ooo-sopp. His name is a pun on the Japanese word for lie/liar, "Uso". Sanji: Sah-n-gee (like golly gee lol). That's everyone you've met so far, and thinking about it now, I'm realizing later cast member names are pretty straightforward in relativity. I think the reason why we all describe One Piece as difficult in the beginning is because it only gets better and better and a few hundred chapters in it becomes truly incredible. Also i recommend the Shonen Jump app for reading it. Not as good as a physical volume, but if the manga is 1000 chapters it is infinitely more cost effective (2 bucks a month) and there are no waiting times between buying the volumes.

I know I got into it right away, but that was some 20 years ago now. It is nice seeing you get excited or happy about books. Not that it is an uncommon thing, but it is very nice to see. It is also fun to watch rant reviews for books you don't like, so I for one will be interested in seeing the first books in a series that you didn't like. I personally prefer standalones, but a few does come to mind. I though Scythe was an excellent start to the trilogy (but really it would have benefitted with another book mainly because even though it did have a good ending, the final book...it could have been better), and I also really enjoyed Daughter of Smoke and Bone and I think it was a good place to begin. And even though I personally am not the biggest fan of Every Heart a Doorway I would argue it is a good beginning to the series simply because it does introduce you to the doors and the type of worlds and so on. And I think doing it at the school was a good place to do it at. It just wasn't the story I personally wanted.

I tried it once a year or so ago and could not get into it with the constant jumping around and I picked up the audiobook this time around and it helped a LOT. I loved Michael Page's narration and it really helped me to parse out the time jumps. As a book? Oh my god ... so worth the initial confusion. I'm really excited to continue with this series as well. The intricacy of how everything slowly builds throughout, the characters, the well-timed flashbacks, and of course, THE CLIMAX. That book had me on the edge of my seat so many times, near tears, and other times I LITERALLY cheered and pumped my fist, which I will add that I have never done while reading a book before. :) I understand that it seems like you are going to include another Stormlight book in another video, but I had to put in my vote for WoK, because in my mind it is an incredible masterpiece of a first book. :) :)

I honestly feel this way about most fantasy series, to the point I have trouble continuing them. Kingkiller, ASOIAF, both eras of Mistborn, Fifth Season, Narnia, Magicians and Golden Compass just to name a few. I think it's the idea that in a first book the author is both establishing the world while still being obligated to give you a climax. In later books, the author is usually focused on one or the other, while usually slowing down the pace. This obviously is less of an issue for series where the books are more self-contained, like Discworld.

Try writing about something that is completely just for fun. Don’t worry if it’s good or not. Even if it’s utter nonsense, or just a self indulgent story.that should get your writer muscles moving again. I hope this makes sense and it helps

Try this. Take a book you really like, or even a book you haven't read but is good, and start copying a paragraph word for word. What this can do is prime your brain for writing a similar style.

You can start by outlining your plot entirely and making sure you know what you want to happen next. You can also write anything on literally any topic just to get into the zone. Instead of writing in an order, you can start writing what happens later. Like, if you’re confused about what to do in chapter 4, but have a great idea for another part of the plot, you can start writing that. You can write down ideas for what you want to happen in the plot and work on them. You can also start working on something completely different (like a different story or book) and you can rite that until you get ideas for the one you’re currently working on. Like, if you’re working on A, take a break from it and start writing B or C if you have ideas. After you have ideas for A, you can start writing it again. These are all the tips I have. I’ll let you know if I have any more.
@luuuuux_

Okay, so I have more. Start writing with a different thing. If you’re writing in a device, maybe you can start writing on pen and paper. That can sometimes get your creativity flowing. You can start doing something else and sometimes ideas just come to you. You can do whatever helps your creativity flow (like listening to music, or exercise). You can take a shower because most of our best ideas come in the shower lol. You can write about your characters and do stuff like character sketches because those help in creating arcs for your characters. You can do research about a topic that’s featured in your story and make sure you have in-depth and correct information. You can listen to music that tells stories. I would recommend listening to musical theater songs (because they almost always have a story or something in them), dodie or Taylor Swift (they tell stories through their music sometimes). It might help you get ideas. You shouldn’t set a deadline because that gives you a lot of pressure and you can’t write at all. You can also get someone else to read your work and give feedback so that you know what you can change. Editing the story itself might give you more ideas. You can read a book and take ideas from it, but give it your unique twist and don’t copy what is in it. These are all the tips I have. Good luck on whatever you’re writing! I’d love to read it someday.

What was really weird is that I dont read Jean the same as you say it I read Jen (cause Dyslexia) so I was like waiting for the Jean character to come up and the I realized that what in my head was Jen was actually Jean!

Couple of first entries that really stand out from my collection are A wizard of earthsea and Written in Red. A wizard of earthsea because it's my most favorite book of all time. I read it back in 4th grade and still remembered the story all the way up through college where I picked up the book to read it once again and had just as amazing of a time reading through it as the first time. Written in red on the other hand was a book I picked up and didn't really expect a whole lot from, but then I read it and couldn't put it down. Alternate reality earth settings aren't usually something I'd be interested in but this book was paced amazingly well and Anne bishop does a great job of not leaving things unexplained for long. I've kept with the series since and don't regret it

I think its odd most WOT fans talk disparagingly about Eye of the World, but I personal feel its the best singular novel of the series. For example, Knife of Dreams is just continuous onslaught of narrative payoff. Amazing! But in order to get this novel you need to endure about 4 million words, 3 thousand names, and a single personality type repeated for every female character. I love WOT, but I've never recommended it. But I do recommend TEOTW

I have tried for years now to get into the wheel of time. I don't know what it is about that series but I just can't seem to get into those books like I have into other fantasy books. I know people really love them and I love fantasy and a lot of the fantasy tropes Jordan uses so I don't know why I don't enjoy them as much as certain other series. I've read the first three and I don't hate the books I just don't love them as much as certain other fantasy series I've picked up
