There are a ton of fish in stardew valley, and you can place all of them inside of fish ponds bus since there are so many fish in stardew valley ,it is kind of hard to determine which fish are even worth your time. So this video will serve as a guide to assist you in picking which fish you should place in your fish ponds for either maximum profit, or for a chance to get rare items.

@@Lucreacuis looks like you got lucky. I remember not having much trouble with it years ago. Just caught one today on a new save. Slippery bugger. Iridium rod and trap bobber are probably what saved me

Aside from the respectable value of the lava eel aged roe, which is after all very easy money once it's set up, and the perk of the spicy eel it gives you, the main value of the fish ponds to me would be to have a handy supply of specific fish for cooking buffed foods like seafoam pudding, lucky lunch, crab cakes, spicy eel, squid ink ravioli, or whatever. Also, if you fill up a pond with crabs, Willy will give you a nice present.

That's why I keep the less valuable fish like eels, squid, etc. So if I can't catch it when it's in season I can take it out of the pond and make it into a meal.

I do coral because it is an ingredient in deluxe speed grow. If you pull some out regularly and also have enough oak trees tapped, it's an endless supply. It doesn't make any money but saves a huge expense if you do tons of crops.

If you have a Midnight Carp pond, a Squid pond, and a Flounder pond, you will always have the ingredients needed to make Seafoam Pudding. Much easier than tracking down the fish for the ingredients out in the wild.

I keep midnight squid, midnight carp and flounders in ponds so I have an endless supply of seafoam pudding. I also have blobfish, lava eel, sturgeon, super cucumbers and a couple of other random ones.

I like to use the ponds to replicate fish for quests and recipes. It's ok to empty them and reset. Plus you can fish out & sell 1-2 once they reach 10, then let them respawn. More income.

My first fish pond was rainbow trout. Their roe is cheap but I had heard they make prismatic shards. 1/1000 chance so maybe I'll get one after 10 years.

I currently have 6 ponds on my farm: -Lava eel, blob fish, and sturgeon for money -Stingray for items -And regular eels and regular cucumbers for the actual fish for spicy eels and lucky lunches

Same, except I don’t have a blob fish and I keep a rainbow trout pond on the hope that I’ll get a prismatic shard. Which I know is rare but I have been trying to get it so many ways and still haven’t got one in year 3.

i think i have one with sturgeon for caviar and one with stingrays because those have a really good chance to give you dragon teeth, which you'll need 10 of for the island obelisk and for certain items at the desert trader. although, i might have to consider the lava eel for future farms when i'll be trying to make money in the early game!!!

I always use super cucumber, its roe sells for an OK price and the iridium drops are really nice early game, plus it is easy to catch early game compared to the lava eel

I’ve been using the fish ponds to multiply fish that i only have one or two of so that I don’t accidentally use them all my fish up. Once i’m done with that, i’ll use a couple for recipes i use a lot that require fish, and a couple that give rare items i need

The ice pip was 580. Ok imma go for lava eel, I already have a sturgeon (tip when you catch it for the lake don’t put it in the bundle right away try to catch a second one or build a pond first so you’ll have more for the movies) and sting ray.

I built all fish ponds regularly. It took me about one year of in-game time. I was done by Winter of Year 1. As soon as previous one was done being built I started new one. I spent these days collecting resources for the new one. I like all fishes. I like that Blobfish gives you Pearls. Lobsters were the biggest hippies :)))) One day they gave Trash, next day they gave Diamond :)))))) In my opinion all fishes are fun. Except for maybe Dorado. Which always asked me to bring it other fishes to eat :( I love fish ponds in real life too :)

you did a ton of work for this video, well done. I hadn't ever seen any of the island fish so seeing the result of the stingray is pretty nice. The only other thing I could think of is to consider how fast the fish reproduce: technically you could have 9/10 in your tank and sell #10 every time it shows up as an income as well, unless it reduces the chance of row or the special loot.

Most of the special items only drop when you have 9 fish in your tank, so you actually could do that I didn't include it in the video, but the Blue Discus can produce golden coconuts 😊

The blowfish has been the best for me as far individual production. I’ve received 3 pearls, iridium ore anc their aged roe is more profitable and often for me. Lave eel is great but takes longer.

I do squid, flounder, and midnight carp to make gold star seafoam pudding. Sea cucumber for lucky lunch. Not that I really need lucky lunch but I do like to have excess luck buffs just in case. I fish the squids out for calamari for Pierre.

First pond I made summer year 1 and put super cucumbers in it, was able to make my first 2 Iridium bars from them! I then made a pond for Lava eels, Slimejack, and Void fish to have all the unique color ponds. Then a Sturgeon pond for the missing bundle. Then a Flounder, Midnight carp, and MIdnight squid ponds, since fish reproduce they let me make as much seafoam pudding as I want without having to go fishing. Not sure what next but I'm thinking Rainbow trout, Blobfish, Lionfish, and Stingray based on your video! Thanks for all the great content, been binge watching your videos for a couple days now!

Lava eel are certainly the most lovely. They even give a chance at giving you 5 premade Spicy Eel dishes which I've gotten quite a few times. I have a lot of fish ponds, but it's just to fully stock my kitchen. Space wise fish ponds are kinda awful. You could put a shed instead of them, as well as just using a different item to finish the missing bundle. Also, even if you do want a lot of them you have to wait 3 days per fish pond. So you can certainly completely skip out on them if you wanted to. That said they do let you make a really nice looking area if you pair them with trees and other decorations.

Ive just started playing the game and have got two ponds, I first caught some flounders and when I realised they were my best thing I popped them in. And there are 7/10 now I luckily fished up 3 Super Cucumbers at the beach so got a second pond built to put them. Bit worried they are going to ask for lots of stuff! Think I caught a Sturgeon earlier today so will make space for that (if I didn’t sell it…). The ponds are very easy to get thankfully, 5,000 gold isn’t too much early game. Will defend keep playing this fun game and expand my marine-monopoly. Thanks for the video, this channel is helpful to know!

i tend to stockpile roe so that i can age and sell a ton by the end of each season lmao. i usually end up having the following -lava eel -stonefish -ice pip -octopus -blobfish -sturgeon -sea urchin -super cucumber -tiger trout on my latest farm, im adding in slimejack, stingray, blue discus, and lionfish, and taking out tiger trout. three of my ponds right now are nidnight carp, midnight squid, and flounder so i can stockpile for that sweet, sweet seafoam pudding; one of my final ponds will be a rotating pond for various specific fish for recipes (lobster, shrimp, sardine, bream, etc)

I'm just raising the harder-to-catch fish used in cooking- Squid, (also provides ink,) Midnight Carp, Eel, Sea Cucumber, those kinds of fish. I'm keeping Sturgeons until the pond is at max capacity, and setting aside that caviar for the missing bundle... Aside from that I plan to raise super cucumbers and purple slimes for some extra iridium~

I have 3 ponds so far, as I'm in the early game still on the riverland farm, and they all have super cucumbers for no reason besides the iridium in the future. I'm quite close to maxing them out which will give them a five percent chance a day to give 1-3 pieces of ore. That still sounds super appealing to help get my iridium going in the mid game so I'm going for it.

I think the sturgeon has a special category since it produces a bundle ítem, so after watching the video I came with this list: 1 sturgeon (but just if you completed the civic center in your first year or you are pretty close, otherwise is lava eel), 2 lava eel (the money, the spicy eel) and third the stung rays (all the especial ítems) I couldn't complete the bundles so I would go with the lava eel because it takes that much time to máximase it.

I totally agree with the blob fish and lava eel as being the best. I also built a couple of slime jack ponds (before I had a slime hutch) because I was always running out of slime to make magic bait. So, the slime jack pond has served me well.

3:25 To answer your question, Ms. Lilyy, the word "roe" is pronounced "ROH," with a silent e. It is a homophone of words such as "low" and "go" (it rhymes with them when said aloud, but is spelled differently). I hope this helps! And don't worry; even 1st-language English speakers struggle with a lot of these words. As the old joke goes, "English is a language that follows other languages into dark alleys, beats them up, and rummages through their pockets for loose grammar and spare vocabulary." 🐍 And to answer your question: Woodskip and Stonefish in the early game make good fish pond fish in my experience, since they both provide resources you need in large quantities, which is especially helpful on the Beach Farm (which I, like a fool, am on during my very first farm ever).

I also have fish ponds with Squid, Octopus, and Eels. For the Octopus, it’s so much easier to grab one from the pond if someone requests it for a Help Wanted task. And for the Squid and Eel, I nab a few from the pond every once and a while for recipes - Calamari is Pierre’s only loved gift and I like having plenty of Spicy Eel helpings in my pocket.

i actually did a fish pond farm with every fish in the game besides the legendary fish, and i grinded for the stone, seaweed, green algae and fish. it didn't take as long as i thought it would, especially when i got to the volcano mine (lots more stone than regular mines). i did, however, buy wood for a lot of the preserves jars i needed lol. i had 60 ponds with different fish and 2 ponds with lava eels because i had space for one more pond, so 62 total. my favorite is when the fish requests bombs. i'm like .... are you ok? lol

I have 4 fishponds with all of the color-changing fish near the middle of my farm for decoration and plan on putting 2 rows of lava eel and stingrays lower on my farm. After I get the obelisk I might change the stingray to lava eel.

I put flounder, midnight carp and midnight squid in three ponds for supply of ingredients for seafoam pudding, roe of those two fish is just side money, temporaly had sturgeons for some money making after using cavia for bundle but it isnt worth of space it takes after that

as some one who uses automate mod i get miself a fishpond for each fish that produces an ore a geode and resources i cant be bothered to gather miself like the blue discus the stingray and the slime jack (for the slime to make eggs) and as most fish i use generate an ore and geode (lava eel, stone fish, ice pip, and octopi) on top of that i use fish ponds to farm fish for dishes like the sea cucumber for lucky lunches eels for fried eel and spicy eel sardines for dish of the sea midnight carp and flounder for seafoam pudding etc etc a line of furnaces and geode crushers to ensure more bars are made passively and minerals are generated sun fish and void salmon for the essence is nice when crafting certain things a wood skip to ensure a supply of wood or tree seeds and cause im overly hopeful i also keep a rainbow trout and a spookfish casue why not

My current fish ponds: rainbow trout (got one prismatic shard, but mostly use it for trout soup), lava eel (for money), eel (for spicy eel), sea cucumber (for cooking), octopus (simply because it's the one fish I spent the longest time and multiple attempts tying to catch), sturgeon (for money and caviar), squid (for squid ink and gift for willy-yeah I'm too lazy to catch him wild fish), midnight carp (for cooking) Planning to get: blob fish, sting ray and maybe more. Fish pond is a thing on my farm design so I have plenty of spots to try different fish. I'll get rid of the midnight carp pond and the octopus pond if my choice was more limited.

Stingrays, Lava eels, and Blobfish are definitely the best Sturgeons, squids, and the other cave fish (Stonefish, Ice pip, Ghost fish), as well as the Woodskip, are in second place Void Salmon are a nice way to get void essence and void eggs, and they turn the water purple Lobsters, crabs, pufferfish, eels, sea cucumbers, and super cucumbers can be good for food and/or gifts, but they don't really produce anything particularly extraordinary (minus super cucumbers with some iridium) I would say rainbow trout are up there, but I have had a fish pond with 10 rainbow trout for several in-game years and have yet to get a prismatic shard :/ Not really worth the investment for years of low-earning roe

Sardines are great for making Dish of the Sea which gives +3 Fishing and is way easier to make than Seafoam Pudding (+4 Fishing).

Don’t worry, even when we have English as a first language, we still mispronounce stuff 😂 But since you were wondering, roe is pronounced the same way as you would say “row”. It’s like how you were saying it, but without the extra pronunciation of the “e” at the end. Hope this helped!

i have 9 total fish ponds 6 are lava eel for the red geodes, two with stingrays and one with cucumber for lucky lunch. id say about once a week i get 10 -15 geodes from the ponds, each pond giving 5 -10, if im not mistaken.

New challenge idea: Stardew Valley, but the only way you can make money is through snails. This means the ONLY things you can sell (either in a shop or in the shipping bin) are snails, snail roe, aged snail roe, and escargots. Stupid idea but I thought it was funny. I might try it out sometime.

Out of curiosity, how many woodskip fish ponds do you think it would take to get wood most if not every day? Likewise with stone from stonefish. I just thought maybe the convenience of that might justify the costs of all those fish ponds.

I only keep sturgeon, midnight carp, flounder, sringray, sea cucumber (for lucky lunches), lava eel and squid.

I use the ponds to produce more fish without fishing 😅😅 I’m a lot better at fishing now but still helpful.

Okay I'm questions to why you got so much room between the fish ponds usually I have my fish ponds right next to each other in a row because I can just run down the road and collect everything admittedly setting up your fish ponds the way you do kegs mean that you have to go back to either the front of the row or you have to have the space on either side so that once you get to the end of the road you can go down or up to get to the next one
