What I love about season 3 is how Jason is a main character. As even though he has Goldenhar’s syndrome and uses cochlear implants. People treat him like a normal person. I really do wish other seasons had that.
I totally agree with you about Barney's costume during season three! Barney looked much cleaner during this season (without the fuzzy material) and I don't know, I liked his head shape and how he was put together as well!
According to the Barney Fandom site this season was supposed to be filmed in mid 1994. But due to the lawsuit going on at the time, filming was delayed, it finally went into production in November 1994 and was completed in the early months of 1995. Then there was a two year gap until Season 4 went into production. But that gap was filled by production of a series of videos that involved a mix of 1st and 2nd generation characters, so 1995-96 could be described as a bit a hybrid era.
@@HedgeOnStage Here in Australia, we got the vast majority of the Home Video releases, many of which got onto DVD. On television, we were 1-2 years behind the US. From my recollection, Season 1 aired on the Australian Nine Network in 1994, Season 2 in around 1995, Season 3 in around 1996, Season 4 in 1998(after the rights were acquired by the Ten Network) and Season 5-6(back to back) in 2000-01(after another network change back to the Nine Network). Some of the Home videos were also televised, with the 1991 Barney in concert and the 1992 Magical Musical Adventure getting a TV airing in around 1998 on Ten. Not sure about the Australian airings after season six, but I think the Nine or Ten network aired it during the 2000's at various times.
I was waiting for this spotlight!! I grew up with the home video releases from season 3 (Talent Show, Fun and Games, and Once Upon a Time mainly) but never watched the actual season until I got older. It has become my favorite season of Barney next to season 2. Nice work, Hedge! And Happy 30th to Barney and Friends! ❤
I remember this season 3 when I was a little toddler :) and you did a good job about this season ^_^ Also, Happy 30th Anniversary, Barney & Friends! :D
As a guy who was born in 1997, I grew up with the first 6 seasons of Barney. Season 3 is my personal favorite because of how much they improved from seasons prior. Barney looks absolutely gorgeous and if they revive the series I hope they use this Barney design and bring back the Treehouse.
I definitely remember this season being the most different. Truth be told, I always thought that the kids just went to another school and took Barney with them during this time. My favorite episodes from this season has to be “A Welcome Home.” Julie’s rendition of Someone To Love You is definitely in my top 3 favorite songs. You can see a music video for it on my channel.
@@chrispleasantable barney and friends were on PBS kids and so Arthur and Zoom did Zoom reboot celebrate their 50th anniversary reunion very soon?❤😢❤🎉😊

I think this season is a strong contender as the best season. It just feels so much better organized and polished compared to one and two which in their own right is just as good. But I must say this season is just full of so many precious moments. One of my faves is when Jason signed to Barney that he loved him in an episode. That was beautiful.
This is amazing, I hope you’ll be doing Big Surprise and the musical transition between Bob Singleton and Joseph, they were really different with their arrangements.
I've heard that the actress who played Stella the Storyteller, also played a character in a video call Yellow Dyno. Just something I thought to mentioned. Though I could be wrong
Of the 1st 3 seasons, this is the one I have the least childhood memories of. Still, u did a good job with this retrospective and I look forward to your take on the 2nd generation.
Season 3 was an improvement over seasons 1 and 2, especially with BJ and Baby Bop having their most familiar looks. Soon we will head over to the Lyrick era to meet Scooter McNutty, Miss Etta Kette and Booker B. Bookworm.
Nice. Say next thing you should do those Barney Home Videos from 1996 (Barney's Talent Show, Fun and Games, 1-2-3-4 Seasons, Once Upon A Time, and Sense-Sational Day) next.
Since season 2’s review was affected by COPPA. I want to mention that I also think it’s a big improvement of season 1. Even though I didn’t discover them until I was around 12. Since I grew up watching the HIT episodes with a few home media of the older episodes. By the way, I find it interesting how BJ looks and acts more like a 10 to 12 year old in that season.
Great video as always! Do you also plan on covering the rest of "Barney & Friends" (like the Lyrick era)? If so, I'm interested to know what you think of Seasons 4-6.

The thing I hope you notice is the first time and only time Barney and Baby Bop and BJ came at the same time and I'm like oh my God cuz Barney came alive and the sparkles were still there when Baby Bop and BJ arrived
Hi hope you get well soon hedge, I've been looking forward on your opinion on barney season 3, funny thing, when I heard the kamen rider sounds in your intro, I instantly remembered you, I didn't know you were into barney, I still have a few barney plush and a Bj plush, I'm new to this channel, and I love your videos, your awesome hedge, stay strong
Oh yeah, and how many seasons of Barney & Friends do you plan to cover following this one? Do you plan on covering the entire series [Minus Season 14 because it's just repackaged, regurgitated reruns], or do you have a cut-off date in mind [only up to a certain season], or no more after this one?
I don't know if you intentionally left this out or forgot, but didn't Barney start using that tree as a 'closet' around this time? What's your opinion on that idea?
Oh Yes! While they introduced this first in Season 2, they do bring that gag back here, albeit the usage is about at the same frequency. It’s very cute and something I enjoyed a lot haha
Nice season 3 is a pretty good season and enjoyed it I do like the redesigns on Barney Baby Bop and b.j. and believe me when I say this I think BJ's redesign looks pretty better even though I don't mind BJ being taller and season 2 as well as shrieking him down a little bit in 1994 but I think his new redesign looks really good not to mention that in my opinion Patty Wiriz did improved BJ's vocal ranges a little bit same for imagination Island and for season 2 I am perfectly fine of How It's sound but it kind of sound a little dry in my opinion overall it does look pretty good same for the current ones and for Baby Bop looks pretty good too Barney expecially and I was pretty interested of how Barney has three different costumes during that particular season my favorite episodes that I could think of from season 3 will have to be Shawn and the Beanstalk, anyway you slice it, twins is nice, ( I do like Ashley and Alyssa and then they will later appear in season 4) on the move, and of course are we there yet?. Season 3 is a pretty good and an enjoyable and a great season and it might be easy to say that I could sooner that season to be my favorite on the Lyons group era and for the new characters they're pretty good despite some of them only appearing in this particular season like Kenneth and also in Barney's 1234 seasons Rebecca ( not to be confused from Rebecca from Thomas and Friends by the way) only made one appearance that's it. It's easy to say it is pretty good that you uploaded it for Barney and Friends 30th anniversary.
That was great except the narrator made a mistake because Carlos's brothers name is Kenneth not jaun unless he accidentally said it on either purpose or by/on well accident
Juan is Carlos’s brother. Kenneth and Juan are two separate characters. Kenneth was introduced in the “On the Move” episode half-way into the season, while Juan was in as early as the second episode This is shown and pointed out in the review itself, their actors look nothing alike lmao
its hard to explain in words, but the newer version that was introduced during Season 2, where the second half of the song speeds up a bit is my favorite they used it throughout Season 3, and I believe its the same one i used towards the end of the video ~~
Well, my favorite version of the I Love You song was from Barney Goes to School, Barney For Babies: Love and Lullabies and Barney's Good Day, Good Night versions of the song. In two Barney videos, Tina sang the short version of the I Love You song (first verse only) in C major key and Barney and the friends sang the whole verses of the I Love You song in Good Day Good Night in C major key. Those are my favorite versions.
@@HedgeOnStage The major differences between the two mixes of that version are that in Season 3 the initial melody line was changed to sound like a flute rather than a whistle and came in on the repeat of the motif instead of the very beginning. The season 3 mix is also in D Flat instead of D natural. A different key can make a difference in feeling and mood. I thought this version might be your favorite sir on account of your usage of it at the end, but of the two mixes do you prefer the Season 3 mix to the Season 2 one or the other way around?
@@benmerliss7702 Well, the I Love You song was in C major key in Barney Goes to School and Barney Good Day, Good Night already! And the I Love You song was in the C major and D major key in many season 7 episodes and season 13 episodes.
Fun Fact about Someone To Love You Forever ... it was actually written to be used in Barney and the Backyard Gang but Sheryl ultimately turned it down. So it would make its debut here which I love and wish they would've used more often.
Season 3 was the end of my generation for Barney and Friends. Whenever I watch an episode of the first three seasons the one thing that always comes to me as a toddler of that generation is you'll be going to school with those kids if you know what I mean.
By the time I started having any memories of watching the show, Barney was already in season 9. But I had a lot of home videos from season 1-6, and these seasons were on PBS Sprout in the channel’s early days, so I mostly grew up with the school era. I watched episodes from the caboose era sporadically when I was a kid, and I had a VHS from 2002 called Barney’s Best Manners (not to be confused with the 1993 VHS of the same name). But the school/treehouse era will always be my favorite of the series.
This was, in my opinion, THE season that was Barney at his best! I had most of the straight-to-video releases, excluding Talent Show and Musical Scrapbook (From my memory anyway), I didn't get them until years later. Needless to say this was the season of Barney that I had most experience with, and that's why it's my most nostalgic. Awesome video as usual!😊
Afterwards like he said a few Home Videos came out after season 3 like Barney Safety, Barney Songs, Barney's Fun and Games, Barney's Once Upon A Time, Barney's 1-2-3-4 Seasons, and Barney's Talent Show. But Through 1996-1997 There's also some new home videos like Barney's Sense-Santional Day, Barney's Musical Scrap Book, Barney Camp Wannarunaround, Barney's Adventure Bus, and Barney's Good Day and Good Night not only that also it's the era where they have a brand new live show, New Composers like Peter Wolf and Joseph Phillips, A New Studio Partnership with Lyrick Studios, Costume Preformers Josh Martian and Maurice Scott, Some Brand New Seasons with a new bright and colorful settings, A Purple Bird and A Cheeky Squirrel, and a production of Barney's Biggest Movie.
This was my favorite season even if I was born in 2003. I basically had m a in home videos of this season and the episodes that came on VHS. I'm also half Mexican so seeing two Latinos, Carlos and Juan was cool to me cause they were the first Spanish GUYS I seen on the show. Good job Hedge hope to see season 4 from leaving Lyons to Lyrick Studios soon.
Season 3 is also my favorite season even if I was born in 2001. Although, I only saw a few specials as a kid. Which I did not watch the rest of the episodes until I was around 12.
In my opinion, I honestly think that maybe "Shopping for a Surprise!" could've been a decent season finale had they done something similar to the Season 1 episode "Happy Birthday, Barney!" By that I mean, during the portion of the episode where they dance around the table singing "Ta-Ra-Ra-Boom-Dee-Ay!" have the rest of the kids from that season's cast to show up for the remainder of it. In that sense, the production crew maybe could've had it double as the season's wrap party once the director called it a wrap. I don't know if that's too much, but that's what I thought anyway. What do you guys think?
I agree “Shopping for a Surprise” should have been the season finale to Season 3 because the only time this entire season’s cast were shown together is in the opening intro where they all meet up after school to see Barney and they all do a group hug 🫂
I think A Welcome Home would’ve served as a great finale too actually. It was a very poignant and beautiful episode which I feel like the season finales should be for Barney.
XD The oldest video of Barney I had as a child was "Barney's Musical Scrapbook", so I really hadn't grown up with much of this season as a child. Still loved watching that one, tho.
By far my favorite season. Even being born in 1997 I would constantly watched Barney songs vhs live in NYC so I was most familiar with this era of Barney
@@disneyfan94themuppetsforev95 He was a character named Shylock. I don't remember anything about that character, but whatever, it was still cool knowing who he was played by!
@@disneyfan94themuppetsforev95 No, but I'm pretty sure it was him, and now I'm second guessing myself! I'm trying to find something that tells me that I saw the same guy!
Gee, I saw most family brithday tapes that dated back in the 90s which focuses on Barney. He mostly keeps hogging the spotlight as I thought I had in mind since the show's popularity rose in 1993.
