This list is right on. I remember playing at the club in the late 80"s and 2 out of 3 players had the eye 2's. We had over 400 members there was pings everywhere. I started playing Ping clubs and stuck with them until 2020.

Gabe limited his list to clubheads, but right up there with "game changers" would be steel shafts back in the 1920's and 30"s, and in many of our lifetimes the Graphite Shaft, first developed by Shakespeare in 1969. Golf had been played for 500 years with hickory shafts before steel revolutionized the game. I was already a few years into my golfing career when the graphite shaft became available and while early models weren't very playable literally everyone has several of them in their bag today.

I agree that the first one piece cast hollow bodied metal wood, the Pinseeker Fireball (not the TaylorMade) should be on the list. But I would forgive you if you used the first TaylorMade metal wood, as Taylor Made popularized them, and Pinseeker was just a smaller brand that never amounted to all that much, although they did make hollow irons also named Fireball that are the first hollow irons I remember (1983 ish?) that actually could also be considered perhaps the first hollow bodied metal “hybrid” and hybrid iron set. I’d take out either the Vokey wedges (just expanded on Cleveland wedges innovation) or the Scotty putter which is just a high end milled copy of a Ping Anser that had been around for over two decades already.

Great list! I have tried a bunch of combinations over the years, but have come back to my R7 Superquad and Ping Zing 2 irons (also R7 draw hybrids). I might have slotted in the 1980s Mizuno blades used by Faldo, which are pretty iconic themselves. Shout out to the Ram Zebra, which was possibly the first well known mallet used on tour? Love your vids - great stuff!! 👏👏

Not only do I have the Original 16* and 19* ADAMS Tight-Lies Fairway Metals, but I also have a complete set of Original ADAMS Tight-Lies Irons, and Original Tight-Lies 2 Spin Control Driver and 3 Metal ... And I still use them on occasions! I'm going to suggest an honorable mention for Northwestern brand golf clubs. Most people I speak with who play golf have come in contact with this brand as their first "real" set of golf clubs. produced in your choice of two colors on the drivers, blue or brown (so you can tell them apart from your buddy's set). These were -without a doubt- starter clubs, but I'm amazed at how many people owned them or knew some one who did.. Personally, I chose the Ping i3 over the 845s. The Pings were the first time I ever got fit for clubs, played them for over 20 years, still own them.

I played early 60’s Titleist blade irons and Persimmon woods handed down from my Dad in the early 70’s straight through to the 90’s. Then a set of Golfsmijth Ping 2 copies and finally a set of Big Bertha woods and King Cobra oversized irons to this day. I try newer tech clubs, but don’t see enough game improvement to replace my 2 decades old clubs. Go figure.

Bought into the Adams infomercial and mine was a steel shaft with around 17 degrees of loft. Low profile for real, like some second hand shop irons I owned--Browning 440's, scary small, lol! I admit I really like the original Titleist dci black irons better than the eye 2's,,, way less offset and understated appearance, really understated! I agree with your list, personally I have a soft spot for the 1997-98 Taylormade burner Tour irons which were quite popular at the time, especially on the tours. There still in my bag now, all the goldish-brown paint fill removed and shined with steel whool. I still have two rusted 588 wedges, a 56°and 49°"special" from the nineties but I could never find a used full set of Cleveland 588 bladed irons,, which were cast blades. But yes, without the Ping Eye 2 I think of all the irons and follow up designs, for decades, that would never have existed, including the dci's, 845's, the list is endless really.

I've played a lot of them. I still have an original Anser in my vintage club bag. I've played a lot of those clubs, to include the PIng Eye2s, Armor 845s, Big Bertha, and more recently the Vokeys. I unfortunately quit playing golf before the advent of a lot of the newer clubs (after 1995) so I missed out on the more modern stuff. Of course I game the lastest P790s now. What would be cool is a top golf advancements video. I've been fortunate to have played during the 'old age' and can still play, semi competently, in the 'new age'. Trust me, the new age is much more fun. Some are obvious. The change to metal drivers, going from hickory to steel and later fiberglass shafts, how golf balls have changed and improved dramatically are easy but there are others that people don't think of immediately. Just some ideas are changes in course maintenance, irrigation of courses, gps systems, range finders, heck even shoes. One thing is the advent of simulation technology and actual data collection. Not only does it allow people to practice year round it allows for custom fitting and point by point assessment and correction in teaching. I mean we are probably still in the early stage of all this but just about anyone can now work on their game and get instant feedback on what is going on.
