I use the cockpit view. At its heart Gran Turismo is a racing simulation after all, not an arcade game. In my opinion GT7 should make some competition and options for lobbies with the option to lock the view.
Cockpit view for me since I play GT7 only on VR. Sure its more difficult sometimes to see what's going on around me and perhaps I would be faster with other views but the feeling of being there is just more important for me.
I have been using hood cam almost my entire life. Both with wheel and controller, about a month ago i desided to try cockpit view, and from first lap i had a way better feeling of the car
Bumper cam will always be quicker, but same for me. I'm 8 tenths quicker a lap in bumper cam, but there is no way I'm using any other view aside from cockpit view. I play for the realism. If pace is sacrificed, it's ok with me.
@@gseric4721 To me, it depends on a few things. For maximum competitiveness, yes, the bumper cam is one of the best (I like the hood cam for a higher angle to view the road ahead better). When I'm doing a slower race with a beautiful car, I'll do third person. I like to look at my beautiful cars in action sometimes, and without having to watch any replays.
I agree but I've also find myself switching up with doing the test bc I'm having problems passing some of them on gold. It's crazy bc in gt sport I didn't have near the problem
I haven't got around to buying a PS5 yet, but now I've retired. I'm thinking of getting one to keep my brain active. Based on my experience of earlier GT games, there's nothing wrong with using 3rd person whilst you're getting used to the cars/tracks, and then switching to cockpit to really try out the driver experience. But yes, use whichever camera you are happy with.
I like the bumper cam - not only because of the mirror, but because all of the info is neatly arranged in the middle. I don't have to glance off to the side to check the radar for example
@@markbooth I wish they had a hot key to turn the hud off and on. Need access to the fuel map, for fuel managed races, and its also nice to get an idea of when you need to change to wets or slicks with dynamic weather.
@@jr260cc5 the weather radar is needed for those races sadly, although I wish they’d remove the track wetness gauge entirely and make drivers feel grip levels and the need to change tyres.
VR for me, I’m still on controller though and hoping to get a wheel later this year. I wouldn’t argue that it makes me any quicker, but I love the level of immersion it seems to give me, plus it’s given me more appreciation of the cars somehow. I was doing Nurburgring earlier today and noticed the mist rising in a dip, I was so flipping immersed, that I spun off the track.
You can never go back to last Gen racing once you’ve felt VR lol. The car interiors are pointless in 2D game mode but absolutely incredible in VR as you have to learn all the steering wheel data and rev counters on GT3 cars
I am almost exclusively doing VR cockpit and only take the occasional break out of VR while charging my haptics vest. And until I can afford a wheel, I have exclusively used the gyroscope steering on the controller instead of the joysticks or buttons. Using that mode you really want cockpit view in case you oversteer and the hand position resets. You can see when that happens. It happens far less for me these days as I get more experienced.
Cockpit. Depth -5, hight 5, offset angle, and type 2. Takes a sec to get used to the offset. If you can move your seat or tv to adjust it really helps but you will find a lot of pace with this camera settings once your adjusted
@@venominjected OK. I'll try it tonight. I like to use the cockpit view but it's difficult to keep the line on hairpins when you can't see out the side windows.
I always use the hood/roof view because it is easier to spot braking points, allowing me to do constant lap times and if a crash occurred ahead. I would spot it quicker so I have plenty of time to react.
I pretty much only use cockpit view in VR when racing . I have a much better feel for the car which I reckon makes up for the reduced vision. The immersion in GT7 VR can be so good, especially in open wheelers. I ordered the VR2 and have raved with it almost exclusively ever since. I just can’t drive without it now. 🤩🤩🤩
@@KepleroGT I think Sport is a mess because of two reasons, one a broken penalty system, and two no real damage to cars. The result is that a driver can drive dirty, get away with it and still finish well.
I have always used cockpit view and have won GTWS Championships doing it so its not necessarily the slowest view. Couple days ago I got a VR so now I'm just adjusting to that.
I used to use bumper cam in GTS (not the roof cam which he also called bumper cam), but since switching to cockpit cam in GT7 the level of satisfaction and enjoyment has rocketed, when you can see the cars next to you or just in front of you from within the cockpit when you're racing close, the sense of immersion is immense which makes it so much more enjoyable, can only imagine how good VR must be
Gentlemen remember, YOU paid $70 for the game play at whatever camera YOU prefer... Gatekeepers hate having fun and want to ruin the fun for everyone else
Ever since the day Psvr2 was released, I only play in Vr, before that it was cockpit view, I bought a "SIM RIG" to Play a "Racing Simulator" so the realistic view is the only viable one in my opinion. But I appreciate everyone has their preference. Maybe one day I'll strap myself to the bumper or bootlid of my Boxster S and give it a blast along a back road. I get that the cockpit view has its restrictions but then again there are so many cars that I have driven that have A-Pillars that I swear were designed to cause and accident.
Every since grand torismo come out 25 years ago I always drove on bumper cam. It’s amazing and I was always fast in that view. But since getting a ps5 and gt7 I’ve been getting used to cockpit cam as I race in psvr2 always. It’s so amazing in vr. I’ve never looked back since getting the vr2. I absolutely love it.
I wish GT7 allowed Cockpit view but closer up where you don’t see the steering wheel especially when you’re issuing a steering wheel to play the game. Forza, ACC and other racers have that option.
Yes! This would be perfect. I am already looking at my "actual" steering wheel live so all I need is the outline of the windshield an dashboard essentially. That would keep me "in" the car but maximize the field of view.
Kireth you can adjust your distance and height in cockpit on psvr2, when you recentre the camera holding the options button lean forward to be further back or more forward for the opposite effect, also if your too high lean up a bit gives you more height
hood view is the best, but it is at times confusing when some hood camera sits more to the roof and some more to the front. I personally prefer it to be placed just in front of the roof. The only problem is that there is no mirror when you have to race others (AI or people).
Roof view is the way to go imo. Bumper view is the next best but for me it’s too low to the ground. Roof cam gives nice overview therefore gives me the best feel for track and vehicle dimensions.
Cockpit is much more challenging than driving from the roof, or front bumper. Who knew?! I love sitting in those amazing reproductions of the actual cockpit in every car. Back in the Need For Speed days, I could only dream of such realism.
I like 3rd person and Bumper view. These pointer and training vids really help. I broke the 2min barrier at Trial Mountain yesterday, as well as posting in the mid to low 2's and it's because of video's like this one. Thanks Kireth
I play 3rd person with a controller. I always have since GT1. However, I’ve recently switched to the GT DD Pro and I run the bumper view now. It gives you a very wide view. I also love the tachometers and the way the HUD is presented. It also has the best sound for the cars. I run a 7.1 Dolby Atmos surround sound system and it screams in this view. The only drawback is the limited view when going up hills. You can get around this by memorizing the tracks though.
You should try to make a comparison test between each. Like how much the steering and brakes and handling changes from view to view. I bet it's at least 20% gain on the bumper cam lol
I agree completely with you on the views, that's why I never use third, but bonnet view. Only thing chase is good for is seeing when I've completely passed cars
I used to always use the 3de person view on racing games. But on gt7, i love the cockpit view. Altho I think that the bumper view has the best vantage point.
Best camera settings for me: Cockpit View Height: 5 Depth: -5 Wobbling Type 2. Chase View Camera Sensitivity 1; Chase View Rotation Axis Offset: 0; Chase View Type: Near
I cant comment, only reply.. 🤣😃 but I literally hate when ppl using roof view...and I know why..but I rather have my mirror on then use the radar or look back...but since im only racing on vr, there is no more choice 😅
Cockpit may offer the least advantage, but I love it for the immersion. I'd use 3rd person more if the camera wasn't so "stiff (?)" and the fact that the car itself always blocks my view of the road, especially on hills. Might try the hood camera sometime, but I don't like the bumper cam, I need at least some frame of reference between my car and the road.
When using VR cockpit view is best but when you arent, hood view is best for this argument. The controller or wheel in front of you is your dash and the screen is the window there is no point to limit yourself further. However, i use 3rd person because i like it and im comfortable with it.
Easy fix for cockpit view feeling to close… sit forward with vr before the race starts. Once it sets your camera sit back and enjoy. If you feel to tall, sit up a bit more to when you lean forward.
Third person because of the wider field of view. When nasty drivers are trying to ram me, I can usually see them setting up and try to avoid them. When I watch motorsports we view the event, usually not from the in car camera. When I'm watching, I'm learning.
both bumper cams. in particular the one with mirror. With time you get a sense of the width of your car and also has less distractions... although for tracks with lots of elevations, its hard to see some apexes...
Bumper cam will easily be the quickest out of all camera angles, as you know exactly where to place the car on apex entry/exit. I play for realism, though. Even if I'm 1-2 seconds off the pace of the fastest guys in the world in cockpit mode, it doesn't matter to me. I want to get the full experience. And it makes me happy to know that if I'm a bumper cam driver, I'm easily into the top 2% in the world, and in some cases, in the top 1%.
I love the cockpit view but I get faster times with the above hood(roof?) Camera, but it depeneds on the car sometimes too. I can't drive in 3rd it's much harder to know when to brake for a turn
In Cockpit, always adjust your seat for max visibility. And yes he's right. Not enough adjustments. In VR, you have to find the sweet spot by moving around, resetting driving position. But now it's limited...
It's the hood on TV. But if you are in VR then the cockpit. Regarding visibility, in VR you need to remember that everything is to scale...you are IN the car. When I sit in my real life car and drive my actual windshield is like a 60 inch tv 2 feet in front of my face. In VR the windshield is actual size so your not really losing visibility the same way you would be on a television. Plus you can actually turn your head to look around you .
I raced for 1 year in Bumper view in GT Sport And GT7, often being faster than my friends racing cockpit view. But for authenticity I decided to start racing Cockpit view as we're trying to simulate racing, not cheat at it at the cost of our immersion? Now i race entirely in cockpit view in all sim racin titles and love it. Within 2 weeks I was just as fast as I was in Bumper view.
I use cockpit view myself but I'm torn between the offset angle or the default. I like how the default angle you can see out the side of your driver side but the offset angle you see your entire front window
Whatever people say or think or argue about, Thank you for your dedication and time. You're amazing and very talented at what you do (Hosting and making videos and word precision)
I bought a vr2 a few weeks ago. I have just one word for it.. WOW..! It completely changed the game, it unlocked the full potential of the game imo…WOW.!!
I like bumper cam for precision and better visual feel of the road, and chase cam for gamemodes where u have to bump into cars, and cockpit view for vr only since immersion is the goal
I use the “bumper” view with the mirror, but it’s not on the bumper. It’s higher up and further back, which you can tell when you’re right behind someone. I would guess it’s either supposed to be at the bottom of the windscreen or kind of two thirds of the way up the bonnet. I feel it gives the best view of the road, the rear view mirror is essential and the MFD is centred on the screen, which makes it much easier to change brake balance/traction control/fuel mapping without taking your attention away from the road. If you compare it to bumper cam on other sims/games you’ll notice the difference in position of the camera.
Been using the same cam as you since Gt5. Havent switched since. Use it for the exact same reasons. Up close n personal with the ability to still see the front sides of my car.
I prefer and play only with VR cockpit view. YEs it's missing some key hud elements like ranking, like lap times...etc but it's the most realistic view. When you get this experience, it's really difficult to go back to the flat view.
Honestly, it kinda depends on the car. The hood camera is probably my preferred option, but depending on the car, cockpit view is more than worth it. Number cam is cool also. It all comes down to preference!
I used to think bumper view was the best because of the arrangement of gauges but then i found out that i can drive perfectly fine without even fully looking at the track... i guess it's a neat skill to have, i assume my brain is just going off of the road, steering wheel, and shoulders of the road.
You pick the view that suits you best. That will very much depend on your setup and distance from the screen. Cockpit view is good but as he says you reduce visibility and it doesn’t resemble real life that well unless perhaps you are in VR. A lot of us are already sitting in a cockpit anyway. Me personally I use the front bumper view (not the bonnet view he calls bumper) as this gives great visibility and you can guage the width of the car using on screen graphics (clocks etc). I don’t know why he didn’t show this view.
First person camera to me to race normal, and 3rd person for drift. By the way, I didn't see no one talking but they made change in the roullette, my first ticket was a 4 star one... And i could won a Super Formula, Lambo Veneno, Tomahawk and the Aston Martin Vulcan, I won the Super formula. Way much better than the 5k credits.
I use the cockpit for realism, but the roof calm view is the easiest/most advantageous to drive from. I have never been able to drive any game third person....kudos to you if you can. Zero realism though. Same with bumper cam.
When I’m not using the hood cam I like the cockpit view, but I use the offset one where the rear view and driver side mirrors are more in your pov. It took some getting used to but its better than the normal cockpit pov imo
In flatscreen, bumper cam right on the front bumper, not hood view. WIth the camera near the deck, you also get the great mirror. But.... these days I race in VR2 exclusively. I agree with you, it's FoV is more limited, but damn, it is immersive.
As a pad player, I've got so much to say on this, I mainly use first person view with the mirror, however sometimes i use bonnet view at tracks like Bathurst and Tokyo Expressway when you need to use the extremities of the circuit, I use chase cam in Forza Horizon, FM and Driveclub Dashcam is the best cam in Driveclub its truely brilliant in the wet weather you should try that. I've tried using chase cam in GTS/GT7 it just loses all the immersion for me. Super GT used to get all sorts of flack for using chase cam in GTS/GT7.
I use bumper cam, for the immersion without the cockpit clutter taking up the screen. There is so much sensation and sense missing driving in GT Vs real life, I feel 3rd person view makes up for that. Where you might feel a real car over or under rotate you might not sense that in bumper/cockpit view but you could see that in 3rd person view. Also navigating traffic, the 3rd person view better replicates your senses than the cut down bumper or cockpit view.
I only use the cockpit view, that should be mandatory on online races, for me makes no sense you be on race simulator using a third person view, even if the cockpit is not what we want to be.
I’m with the bonnet/hood. I used to do 3rd person and then cockpit and still cockpit with some road cars because visibility seems to be better but first time in a gr1 or a super formula I forget which I switched to bonnet and it’s the best combo of visibility, precision and feel for me.
I’ve played 3rd person on every racing game since I was a kid it’s easy but it’s not a good view to win races. The view of just the hud or front bumper is the best for gt7. I’ve recently bought a wheel and I’m still miles better on controller then the wheel. I can’t drive in real life either so whole new learning experience haha.
My problem with cockpit view is that it doesn’t do a very good job replicating the level of visibility you get in real life. It only makes sense in VR and with the three screen setup
Agreed, cockpit view is the simulation view. Any other view just becomes unrealistic. next iteration needs option to change the FOV, seat adjustments, pitch and triple monitor support and more fine grain FFB options - this is one of the main reason i prefer ACC and iRacing on the PC even though the graphics doesn’t look as easy on the eye as GT7. even though i’m a PC guy, i do enjoy a occasional GT7 session. imagine this gets ported to the PC….
I totally agree on the view ahead on track being easier in 3rd person. I use the bumper view mostly when using my wheel set-up. Sometimes i have to change to the top of the hood view(roof) when I'm having difficulties seeing corners up ahead, and when elevations change going into corners. I've used cockpit view a few times, but without the VR headset, or a big TV screen, it's very limiting on what you're able to see. Love the video man. Thanks for having the backs of the "other" guys lol
Kireth, you can adjust the up, down back and forth in psvr. However it has to be done in game which is annoying. Something’s they put me to close the wheels and I adjust to move back
F1 i always use roof looking down, I get better apex accuracy, however I use bumper on gt7 as I like the information centre of screen, better d pad control experience, I have used cockpit but some of the vgt type cars are a bit crap for visibility
I was always a 3rd person player in racing games like forza and so on. I picked this up recently and found using bumper/hood view much more easier and faster race with.
Front bumper view here. Like the location of instrumentation and rearview mirror. Would use cockpit view, but don't like seeing a wheel on the screen in front of my rig wheel. VR, which I don't use that much anymore due to VR sickness... cockpit view makes complete sense and works.
I've always been a hood view guy. I don't care for the change in sound (as if you are farther away) when on hood view. I would like the option to have the same cockpit sound while in hood view.
I used third person when I first started playing. When I got a wheel I started using the bumper cam where only the speedo showed. Mostly for the rear view mirror. The hood cam would probably have been better but no rear view. Recently using vr. I hope they add the leader board with the split times. It is nice to know where everyone is.
I have been a 3rd person driver for the past 25 years as a casual gamer who always played racing games for fun and wasn't a hardcore sim racer. That all changed when I fired up the PSVR2 a couple months ago with the Woojer Vest 3 and IEM headphones. So much fun and the killer VR app that changes everything! I am now so hooked that I plan to save up for a wheel, seat, and pedals. I think it is entirely possible to overcome most the downfalls you mentioned why you don't recommend the VR view. Some cars are worse than others with visibility. But with killer immersion of sound and haptics that rattle your core, the fun factor goes up exponentially. I have also exclusively used the gyroscope steering with a dual sense pro controller since I don't have a wheel. The only time I don't play in VR is when the Haptic Vest needs a charge and then I switch to Third person. I have a 144hz monitor so I get a visual upgrade. Still would trade that visual upgrade 100% of the time for being in the cockpit of these amazing vehicles.
You forgot the one I use. The in between bumper hood roof and cockpit view. I call it the window view with a rear view mirror at the top (Can see nothing but the road). Been using it through all the GT games. Almost the same view as the bumper cam.
From.the offset with gtsport I've been using bumper cam with mirror . Personally want all that view coming at me. Cockpit is too restrictive and chase cam is too unrealistic. Even if I found myself more competitive in chase I could never use it as its just too "video game" as opposed to "sim racing game". Interestingly Tidgney (some of you may know was on for 3rd place in gtsport world champs until he got punted off track). He did a video testing all the different views. To his surprise he found bumper cam with mirror fastest, (a view he was not using at the gtsport world championships)
Recently started flipping between Cockpit and roof cams. In cockpit view, wish it had more field of view to be able to look through the turns, especially in the hairpins. Love the in car cam for the realism, but for me, roof cam for better situational awareness.
I use the bumper cam. I would use the cockpit view, except that the extra pair of hands in front of me is a distraction. I don't think anyone is using the "wrong" view, so long as they choose the one that works best for them personally.
I use a mix of all different camera views. My favorite even though it kind of makes me struggle is hood view. However if say I'm doing daily races I'll likely be in third person view so I can juke people who want to ram. My juking ability has been worked on for some years while racing on gta. And because of this I've placed very high in racing lobbies.
