Some important corrections: 1. (@KingSam) Capital One Savor One point have statement credit redemptions of 1cpp. Venture Miles have statement credit redemptions of 0.5cpp 2. (@bitcoinion) Amazon Prime Card cash back can also be redeemed for statement credit or direct deposit at 1cpp.
Your right got confused with blue Amex …. That max is 6 k and 6 % Then I use clear with no annual fee for 3% And after watching your video I am looking to get AAA card you talked about
One of the most consistent bills that almost EVERYONE buys on a weekly basis; might as well get some money back for something you’re already needing to spend money on! Great breakdown! 👏
Totally agree! It's nice to get some super easy cash back on everyday spending - especially groceries and there are so many choice to choose from. Appreciate it Sam!
Wow, I think you covered damn near every grocery card out there! I was using the Verizon Visa for groceries until I got the Freedom Flex / Amex Gold. You really can't go wrong with any of the cards in this video depending on where you shop for groceries. Nice work Stan!
Thanks Josh!! Yeah I've seen the Verizon Visa on your WIMW videos, and course the CFF and Gold cards are fan favorites! I think it's so interesting that everyone has their own flavor and style when it comes to the best grocery credit cards for them! Appreciate it bro!!
I've actually recently mostly changed from the CFU to the CSP for grocery spending due to using Kroger Pay with the CSP as the payment method which causes the transaction to go thru as 'online grocery' rather than regular grocery so I can get the 3x back and it works. I actually learned it from a Chad's Money Minutes video. Great video btw Stan!
Thanks man! Yeah, I didn't even know about that until someone mentioned it to me on my community post. Definitely a great way to access that 3X grocery multiplier on the CSP! Chad has some great tips and insights for sure!
I'll take my Amex Gold all day long right now... however, there are plenty of awesome no-annual fee options that can effectively give you pretty close to the same value, and the Gold card is not one I'd recommend for everyone. This was a really well-organized video Stan! Great work!
Thanks Spencer! Yeah, the Gold card is such a great card for groceries, but like you said, there's tons of other options to consider! I'm always on the fence with the Gold card, despite how great it is, and I also use it as my primary grocery card, but we'll see if it sticks for the long term!
Thanks man! Yeah, I tried to hit all the major ones so I think I covered most of the ones that people know about / should know about, but groceries is a tough category because there are so many options! I’m sure I missed something - it’s impossible to cover them all!
Great content Stan. The Amex BCP definitely fits my use case. We have the Hulu/ESPN/Disney package and this card provides a $7 a month / $84 years credit plus the 6% on streaming so all in that more than covers the annual fee by itself plus throw in the grocery multiplier of 6% up to $6k / $360 and the 3% on gas this card is a winner for me specifically.
Nice Ryan! Yeah the BCP is a great choice for your situation since you can maximize all the elevated spend categories and statement credits! Sometimes the AF makes this card questionable but it definitely works for you!
Using the savor one. It doesn’t earn points but the cash back can be converted to points. The venture series have poor cash back redemptions, not the savor one.
Nice! Yeah, the SavorOne is a great card! Thanks for the correction on the poor cash back redemption on the Venture series (instead of the Savor series). I don't have any Capital One cards so I wasn't able to verify it myself, but I appreciate you for clarifying this! I'm just so used to seeing it paired with the Venture X since, like you said, the cash back can be converted to points with is also a power move!
Cash back (to actual direct deposit, is 0.5cpp last I checked), but there are a lot of other methods like travel purchases and gift cards that get 1cpp. You can get higher than 1cpp if you have a C1VX and can transfer out to travel partners.
Great breakdown of the different cards that you can use for groceries. As a huge fan of the rotating category cards, I wanted to mention that I can generally get 5% back on groceries for more than just one quarter. Although there was an issue where I wasn’t getting 5% back at Whole Foods initially, Chase said that it should have been included as a 5% back category on the CFF under Amazon this quarter. We usually get 5% back at Walmart in the final quarter of the year so I shift most of my grocery shopping to Walmart that quarter. In the past Discover has had Target as one of the 5% back categories at least one quarter, though I haven’t seen it yet this year (Chase had it in the first quarter), but Discover now has digital wallets as a quarterly category, and you can use digital wallets at Target and at every grocery store that I shop at, so that’s another quarter when I can get 5% back on groceries.
That's great that you've found a way to incorporate rotating categories into your grocery shopping. I know for myself, I would find it too cumbersome to keep switching grocery stores to match the 5% category, but as long as it works for you, you can maximize it very nicely! It's always a bummer when the rotating categories also overlap, but like you said, it hasn't happened yet this year. The BEST strategy is definitely the one that works for you! Appreciate the support and glad you enjoyed the video!
I just use amex blue cash preferred, 6% back grocery. 3% gas. When discovery has the 5% gas I use that for gas. Target and Amazon are the current 5% back with discover right now but groceries are usually cheaper at an actual grocery store.
For sure Dex! Those are the best times to apply for those cards - I wish Chase had groceries as a main category instead of these intermittent deals, but yeah, when those are available, definitely worth it to take advantage! My finacée has it on her CFF from earlier this year as well 👍
Only one I think you missed is the Capital One Key Rewards card. It gives you 5% at William-Sonoma brands and 4% at grocery and dining (excluding fast food). No FTF like all Cap1 cards.
Oh, nice! I didn't even know that card existed. Great NAF card with some pretty good food multipliers. Only downside is that the rewards can only be redeemed at the associated retail stores. Thanks for suggesting it!
Target has promotions that give $40 back for a $40 shopping trips for both the credit and debit cards when you signup. They currently are running one from 6/18-7/22
Very true! That's actually when I tried to sign up for my reloadable card back is when that promotion is going on. If only the would approve me, haha! Great to know that another promotion just started - thanks for the tip Johnny!

What card should I use for my cell phone bill? Insurance, points, etc. Thinking of moving my cell phone from my Biz Plat to Chase Ink Cash and adding my internet, cable with my cell phone plans.
@@krs1905 I think that's one option! The cell phone protection on the Platinum is pretty clutch so that's what I use, but if you have a super high cell phone bill, may be worth it to switch to the CIC!
@@TheCreditFrog I think all of my internet and cellphone plans come to about $800 a month, the 4k UR points would be nice to get over $10 back from Amex. I think Amex has some of the best insurances and warranties in the industry.
Loved this breakdown! There are plenty of options out there to suit most needs! I just helped my girlfriend her first card, the Capital One SavorOne! Should come in the mail next week. The rewards categories made sense and I’ve got Chase and Amex now - it’s nice to have all three major players now in our household! We’re gonna hoard those points and next year try for the VX! Meanwhile, I’ll work on Chase and Amex!
That's awesome Ivan! Yeah, I think the SavorOne is such a good card, and since you have a Player 1/Player 2 setup going on, you guys can tag team to get the cards that complement each other! When she goes for the Venture X next year, you'll have a fully functioning Capital One Miles machine!!
The Citi Costco card & business credit card version gives you back a 7K cap of up to 4% back with a 0AF Plan on getting it soon since I’m a Costco member
The Costco credit card is great if combined together with their Executive Membership! If you shop a lot at Costco, that's definitely a great go-to setup to use!
I take my wife to work daily and I drive for my job. So I spend a lot on gas. Which would you recommend for someone who has no credit history like myself . P.s my top 2 categories would be gas then food . Thanks for the video .
If you can get it, the AAA Travel Advantage card gets you 5% on gas on up to $7,000 spent per calendar year. It's like the AAA daily Advantage but for gas. Another nice option is the Citi Custom Cash which gets you 5% on gas on up to $500 per billing cycle. Both cards have no annual fee!
That’s a great question! I think for families this is something that could definitely be possible! Personally, Im nowhere near this since I eat out way more than I cook at home!
Agree Roger! The Verizon credit card is such a fantastic card if you're a Verizon customer. Uncapped 4% grocery is hard for no annual fee is hard to beat!
As a single man that doesn’t spend much on groceries/going out to eat at this current point in my life I cannot justify the Amex’s Golds 250$ annual fee. But the AAA daily advantage card 5% cash back on grocery spend fits my need as I already use the CITI custom cash as my gas card. Thanks for the awesome info!
Yeah, I think your sentiment is shared by a lot of people! The Gold card is a great earner for food, but that annual fee is really high, especially compared to other cards with no annual fee and great multipliers like the one found on the AAA Daily Advantage card!
@@TheCreditFrogYeah I feel the Gold card would be a great addition if you have a huge family or you are constantly going out to eat with clients/friends/etc. Definitely a card I will get in my wallet once I feel it makes sense but as a young single fella hell bent on saving every penny, can’t justify it! Thanks again, just got approved for the AAA daily advantage!
@Stan The Credit Frog Just wondering, for the AAA cc, the 10k cap means every year as long as i dont spend more than 10k, i will get the 3 percent cb right? Thank you
Great video Stan, as usual!! I’m a beginner, I wonder for grocieries & gas if the citi custom cash is the better (now) than a sapphire preferred (in the future) when the ultimate goal is to stack points for traveling, or the equivalent of saving money for travel. What are your thoughts? 🙌🏻🙌🏻
If you wanted to target just groceries or just gas, I would go for the Citi Custom Cash since you’ll get the best cash back with that card. As a beginner, it’s also important to prioritize Chase cards due to 5/24 though so I would start getting Chase cards now when you feel comfortable with the Citi Custom Cash!
@excitinglife2302 Yes, if you want to target one category like groceries and gas, then get the Citi Custom Cash first, but if you want to start building a Chase setup (trifecta) earlier, that is an option too. Sadly groceries and gas are Chase’s weak point since they are not standard categories (CSP has online groceries) so it depends on if you want to go for UR point earning cards first or just maximize the cash back with the Citi CC
Walmart doesn’t code as groceries on the Amex Platinum so acutally the best card for that is the AAA Daily Advantage card for 5% back on Walmart, which does code as groceries. The C1 Walmart card only gets you 2% back at Walmart in-store (5% online)
I have the Savor One, Chase Amazon Prime, Blue Cash Everyday instead of the Preferred, the no annual fee Amex Everyday on your list instead of the Preferred yet again, so I'm pretty much covered on groceries even as of now. I shop more at Walmart SUPERCENTERS, but since I don't shop at traditional supermarkets much, I'm better off with no annual fee options instead of upgrading my Green to Gold for traditional groceries stores and Walmart Neighborhood Market supermarkets. For Walmart supercenters and Target, I would use the Citi Double Cash or the Blue Business Plus. I just got approved for the Citi Custom Cash too, I have the Discover It Cash Back and I know Groceries just passed in the quarterly categories and will get the Freedom Flex down the road when I'm out of 5/24 jail around July of 2024. I'm sitting at 10/24 jail for groceries once a year. Good to have options.
Dang, you have a LOT of options for credit cards. It sounds like you have options for any situation! I think the Amex Gold at Walmart Neighborhood Markets is also a very nice pairing. Some people have informed me that the AAA Daily Advantage card codes Walmart and Target for 5% cash back, so even though you're 10/24, maybe go for 11 🤣?
@@TheCreditFrog I got a $75 for $1000 spend in 6 months for the Preferred and took it. I will keep it for a year and downgrade it back in a year or a little over a year after the annual fee posts to the Everyday. I still have the Gold card.
Don't sleep on the Navy Federal More Rewards American Express Card No annual fee 3X points at restaurants and on food delivery 3X points on groceries 3X points on gas and transit 1X points on everything else
So if my biggest expense is groceries and restaurants other than my mortgage, what is the best reward card for groceries? I do have a Amazon (citibank) card and I buy a lot of stuff on Amazon. I guess my spending on Amazon comes in 2nd place over groceries. What would be my best card for groceries?
I think the AAA Daily Advantage would be the best one! You could also go Citi Custom Cash if you spend $500 or less on groceries every month. I think you mean you have the Chase Amazon card? Thats a great option for Amazon purchases. If you have Prime that’s 5% on Amazon and Whole Foods, although Whole Foods tends to be more expensive.
When you are prompted for your zip code on the AAA credit card application site, just enter a zip code from the Northeast. You'll have no problem getting the card then.
The only one I’m familiar with is if you shop at a Walmart Neighborhood market, that will code as grocery for Amex so you can use any Amex grocery store card to get points there (eg Amex Gold for 4X). Otherwise, I think you’re best best would be the Walmart card with the 5% in-store purchases for the first year or you could do online groceries for pick up.
Citi Rewards+ and Custom Cash is overpowered for those of us on team cashback that spend less than $500/month on grocery. Its what I use. Although the Rewards+ prevents some repeat signup bonuses within a 24 month period, for some reason the custom cash isn't on that list, so I am actually working on both their signup bonuses at the same time right now, which the Rewards+ 10% redemption bonus should slightly boost said sign-up bonus too The Amex BCE doing 3% Gas and 3% Online shopping means I still have use for it too
That's awesome! Yeah, I recently was made aware of this Citi Custom Cash / Rewards+ combo, and it's definitely a hard one to beat given how simple it is to use, and can be used for any of the CCC categories - not just groceries so it can be a nice flex category when you need it to be. I also love the BCE and think having that is also a must for any no annual fee cash back setup!
That's interesting. I just got the CCC for grocery spend. Though I may move categories in a billing cycle from time to time. Getting 5.5% on that spend with the CCC and the Rewards+ is pretty tempting.
@@TheCreditFrog Do you know if we can get the extra 10% back in points even with the cash back redemption if we have the combo of CCC and Rewards+ ? Or is the 10% bonus only in case of non-cashback redemptions?
@@RemGb10 I’m not sure, but since the card earns ThankYou points, you should be able to get 10% points back and then redeem the points for whatever you want.
I was tempted to go for the AAA Daily Advantage but then happened to read so many horror stories about it and the issuing bank (Comenity) on the doctorofcredit forum that I have put it off at least for a while.
I think that's fair. There's a reason why Comenity has a lot of notoriety so it all comes down to how comfortable you feel about it. The good news is that there are lots of other options to choose from so you can get a great multiplier on groceries with another card that's a better fit!
@@TheCreditFrog - thanks! Also, thanks for showing how I could boost my 5% Citi CC rewards to 5.5% by using the Citi Rewards+ account. I had no idea about that.
