If anything I just feel guilty, ya see other creators put out multiple videos a week and I’m struggling to keep up with 1-2 a month hahaha At the end of the day I guess a lot those people are doing RU-vid full time or are still in school/uni, so I probably shouldn’t compare myself to them, but it’d sure be nice to have all the free time I use too back in school, it’d make things way easier 😅
It really does tug at your heart strings, and is one of the best stories the Gundam Franchise has to offer imo. 08th MS team is also fantastic in its own right, I can’t believe it took me so long to actually watch the UC timeline fully, there’s some real gems within it
Big ups for covering this one, it's definitely in the top echelon of Gundam entries. I know it's unfair to compare 0080 to the UC mainline 40-50 episode behemoths, but Bernie's plight hit an emotional resonance for me far surpassing any other series in the franchise. Loved that you picked up on that scene with the cop: 0080 is ultimately a show about the everyman, and the ending beautifully constructs a tragedy using that same quality. No aces or newtypes, just a bunch of hardworking folks trying to make the best out of an awful situation. Makes for a great holiday story too.
Thanks man! It’s seriously a fantastic story even if you were to remove the Gundams completely, and if I’m honest, I feel like it’s unfair to compare the mainline UC entires to 0080, rather than the other way around, because what excuse do they have for not being as good and emotionally resonating as a 6 episode OVA with all of those extra episodes up their sleeves 👀 The series is truly jam packed, that cop scene was great and there were probably many more like it that I missed as I only watched through it once, it definitely deserves a rewatch though, whenever I feel like crying again
Just finished War in the pocket, it has to be my favourite UC Gundam series. Its so simple, wholesome and tragic and it left me really depressed and happy at the same time.
i claim false information .... claiming i have never seen 0080, 0080 War In The Pocket was in fact my very first Gundam series as a young teen and i have been hooked ever since i am sure no one else here survived the gundam fight that happened in my cities downtown a few years ago either .... damn Gjallarhorn and Tekkadan
I reckon it’s worth bumping it up the list if you’ve got a spare 2 or so hours soon, cause you can seriously finish the whole thing in one sitting and it’s WELL worth your time
You know me and this ova have a bit of a conflicted history. At 1st I wasn't really a big fan of it because why would I want to watch a gundam OVA that has a child as the protagonist but then I rewatched it while I was literally in college and I immediately liked like I rewatched. The relationship between the 3 main characters was solid the fights were pretty well done despite being smaller and Bernie was a great example to show me that not every single person on the enemy side is actually a bad person. Much like how Chris taught me that there are good people on the enemy side from the heroes perspective but both sides are not created equal and Al, despite being the only child protagonist in the series( in terms of the English dub gundam series) did have a good character arc by the end. Pretty good video based around this OVA and while it's not my favorite that honor goes to 8th MS team even with the Romeo and Juliet signs, this one is still good to watch and hey Bernie was voiced by solid snake in the dub so that has to count for something lol. Anyway nice job!
08th MS team is truly a special one, but for one reason or another War in the Pocket just struck a chord and resonated with me so much more. It could honestly be recency bias kicking in because I watched 08th MS team a few years ago, but none the less they’re both fantastic OVA’s in their own right. Bernie in particular ended up being one of my favourite Gundam characters in the franchise by the end.
As far as I’m aware there’s nowhere to legally stream it, and the blu-ray is out of print. So the best way for you to watch it at the moment would be through an unofficial/pirating streaming site like 9 Anime
