All the death sounds are linked in my brain with the swoosh sound of the ghost of the hero ascending and hearing them like this without it feels wrong in some way.
Gunpowder units going in F tier. Rifles sound weaker than chucked spears or shot arrows. Serpent wards going in S or F tier depending on how you value attack sounds, recognizableness vs soothing to hear.
Still remember mass paladin death sounds playing on old td maps like wintermaul, a fellow player noted it sounds like he's saying "You're a h*e". I could never unhear it after that.
There has been a period when I haven't touched Warcraft 3 for like a decade, but throughout all those years I still clearly remembered the orc grunt death sound. That's the most memorable death sound to me. And I think the dwarf one aswell.

The first sound at 14:00 is the death sound when he has the "demon wings" but is still in his own form. Don't ask how I know (Too much old wc3 custom games)
You definitely hear the horse hehe.. I'm so surprised you haven't heard that in all your years playing. In the death Knight sound. Now You will never unhear it
the "pull into the sky"(?) sfx that comes along with hero death is definitely something that enriches a number of these. Paladin and TC & DK flow into it perfectly for instance.
Human here. Really really like archmage death sound and animation. AM death is often the end of the game. Think the horse falling backwards is also cool. Tragic
I kinda disagree. Every time you interact with him he's a rude, self-important bastard, and we don't even get to listen to him scream when he dies (only his horse). Of course that may be intentional by blizzard to not train their human players to want to "accidentally" lose their hero over and over :P
We didn't know we needed this tierlist until it happened. Love the idea! On the voice of Sylvanas: At first, the WoW voice actress was not great. She sounded like she has a cold. Very nasal voice. But after 2-3 expansions, she got WAAAY much better. I still love the OG voice, would have been great if they had given her another chance to do Sylvanas. Too bad.
I swear they recorded the juicy Naga fish sound, but they accidentally pasted it onto the Mountain King's death sound. Dude sounds like his armor's made of Capri Sun. Anyways, loved the video! Great vibes.
IMO NE has the most iconic death sound (demon hunter) and by far the most noticeable one in the heat of a giant battle (that warden screech can pierce through anything). My favorite one was the crypt lord though, such a complex and well engineered sound.
just wanted to say that i definitely noticed almost immediately that the pit lord had the kodo death sound. i always thought it was ill-fitting because its not what his voicelines sound like at all. very jarring. incredible that someone as versed in the game such as yourself never noticed.
I definitely noticed(of course I did forget where it went, but that's beside the point), it's one of the things that made me think Starcraft's sound was superior to Warcraft 3's sound. But it's hard to surpass OG Starcraft's sounds!
The Goblin Alchimist dieing by the Ogre falling has always been a detail i like, it really is the details that bring the soul to the game. The Silvanas death sound i believe is the one played when she gets kild by Arthas during the in game cinematic
omg i have never noticed that the nerubians shoot actual tiny spiders that run under the enemy and go back i just noticed after the criptlord clip... now all makes sense holy fk
The sad part was hoping upon hope we'd get to hear the peasant death sound. Of all the worker death sounds, that one never gets old to me. I haven't seen the Sok 67 peasant game against Happy but that one must've had a ton of peasant sound effects to hear at one's leisure.
Lich death sound is like the hollow version of the famous « Oh ! ho !... » Ray "Dustin Hoffman" Babbitt's in Rain Man movie when he gets surprised or worried 😆
I've heard a rumor that the death sound for Warden is swapped with Naga Siren's death sound. Also, nothing beats Malfurion's death sound. He has a different death sound than the Keeper of the Grove, or Druid of the Talon, and it's hilarious. Wish you have covered that.
23:10 not only that but you can hear hims saying "rats!". I remember in early CN cartoons many characters would swear using this words. Its like cursing with "damn it", "drats", "fuck" etc but with rats
So what happened with the demon hunter alt death sounds, they have been changed with reforged and the additional of the female demon hunter. The original was down pitched from its pre-reforged version (it use to sound nearly identical to the Firelord's), while they up pitched a copy of the file for the female version. The weird one you heard was her's.
Archimonde dead sound? I remember making him in map editor years ago, and using his rain of fire, death finger, and hell gate. Awesome hero, i think UD should be able to recruit him :)
With the undead heroes you also get that skull thing - their soul leaving or whatever - shortly after their death. Perhaps technically not part of their death SFX but still practically part of it.
All tiers mentioned are good. But obviously u must do unit death sounds. Also funniest click noises. “This one time, at bandit camp” for the bandit merc is so funny
Blademaster and Troll Berserkers also have the same death sound. Not Headhunters, only after they've gotten the Berserker upgrade. A lot of neutral troll creeps too.
one of the things i absolutely hated in dota is that they removed many of death sounds. It's one of those small things that Really matter a lot in practice. I will never forget my disapointment the first time i killled zeus in dota and there was no mountain king death sound..
