The Best Horror Comics This Halloween 

For some reason whenever I watch one of mr Sunday's movies it seems like I've known him and maso for years

YO shout out to Matt on this one and all the other videos too. The clip choices are absolutely amazing with the joke James and Maso are spitting out. Comedic timing on point in all areas!

I really enjoyed this, would love more of these “check out these” with comics (best romance, best sci fi, even specific runs like best Batman etc). The comic world can be an intimidating prospect in terms of just how much there is.

I can’t believe you guys missed Junji Ito manga. I know it’s not western comics, but his work is some of the scariest stuff I’ve ever read.

Jeff Lemire's Gideon Falls is a great series with plenty of spooks and scares and whatever else you need for Halloween

Nailbiter is amazing, great art and the story is very interesting.

I had a good laugh, out loud even, at the divorce settlement joke at the end. Just how James went deadly serious and said “I’m SO sorry” & Maso “It’s alright we had a good run”. I love watching old Mr Sunday videos, these guys never change. They are hilarious gents.

Hack/Slash by Tim Seeley is remarkable.

I guess most people wouldn't classify 'Monstress' as a horror comic, but I feel like it fits many criteria for horror, as well as working on several other levels. Stunningly beautiful, often most beautiful when the creepiest shit is happening.

Justice League Dark is a pretty good horror series. It wraps up pretty well and the new run has been great. Also Hellblazer is pretty fantastic. New run was pretty solid as well.

"Twisted Dark" is a pretty good anthology series for horror comics!

Some of Scott Snyder's run on Batman was pretty chilling. Death of the Family, City of Owls, and Bloom come to mind.

The original dead space comic has some horrifying visuals, I actually couldn't finish it by the time I had to return it to the library

As far as unmentioned comics go, I'm a huge fan of Junji Ito's Flesh Colored Horror series.

Was going to suggest American Vampire, but you beat me to it.

The Jamie Delano run on Hellblazer.

Rachel Rising! Rachel wakes up in a shallow grave, dirt stuffed down her throat, marks on her neck, and she doesn't know how she survived. The comic follows her and her friends trying to figure out wtf happened. Involves witches, demons, rats, a snarky kid, and awesome snow art!

The Purge DOES happen in the United States around Halloween; or more particularly, there's Mischief Night/Hell Night on October 30th. In the Detroit and Philadelphia region (Both really safe, really not crime-ridden cities) it's a night to go out and just break laws. Ever seen the Crow? The murder the film/comic opens with is on Hell Night in Detroit.

The thing? I read one where Vikings ran into it and that was pretty cool, don't know if that qualifies. The strain is a cool take on vampires and I recently got a couple spawn books that were abstract and dark, Constantine has a plenty of stories that are dope too!

There was a comic character called, "Mephisto." (For some reason I remember it being associated with Wolverine?! Like, maybe he was in it, too. Or, it was part of one of those back to back, upside down double issues, with, "Mephisto," on one side and a, "Wolverine," comic on the back, when you flip it over.) Anyways, it has vampires and a really cool art style. And I remember it being pretty scary. 💀

Marvel Zombies??? That scared me as kid flipping through the pages I felt the intensity wondering what was gonna happen next

My favorite horror comic is the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. I watched the first episode of the TV show and it didn't do it justice.

My comic recommendations for you guys are Alan Moores Neonomicon and Providence. Probably the best story bases on The Cthulhu Mythos that takes place in our world. Glenn was totally my favorite character on Walking Dead, but they ruined his death...multiple times. But honestly that show lost me a long time ago. Thanks for the comic recommendations. I will log these in my mental notebook

Everyone from big cities in America seem to think that every small town is scary, evil, or hates everyone outside of that town.

American vampire is a great book that ended too soon. Scott Snyder does horror really well.

Locke and Key has to be one of my favorites for sure. Nailbiter is great and I really enjoyed American Vampire, but I want to put an honorable mention to Crossed. The covers are WAYYY over-the-top, but the story is pretty solid and they have had several different runs making a whole "Crossed" universe.

Cold Spots for Image is only 3 issue in but so far so good

I'm quite fond of Crossed, though I prefer Ennis' original run before it became 'how many horrifying things can we have the Crossed do on a splash page'. I liked how he put a focus on the horrifying things people did to each other to keep those other horrifying things from happening to them. Those words just lost all meaning.

Two great horror series I personally love are Clean Room by Gail Simone which is like the most fucked up alien invasion sort of thing I've ever read, and Outcast by Robert Kirkman which is a great demonic possession/invasion tale tale that I love. Also thanks for the recs guys! I will be checking some of those out. Nailbiter looked pretty interesting especially.

Great list, but missing one key amazing horror comic series that in my opinion is one of the best and that is “Criminal Macabre” by Steve Niles or any of his Cal McDonald Mysteries. A drug addict PI that specializes in hunting monsters and investigating the paranormal. Fantastic reads with great storytelling, good humor and a protagonist that anyone could fall in love with. Thomas Jane even modeled the character for several covers and there was a time where a movie was in the works but the production company wanted to do away with Cal’s drug addiction so Niles was like “Nah, never mind.”

Some of the 'Tharg's Future Shocks' stories in 2000AD were horrific in a Black Mirror'esque way.

There's this one comic called "Crossed". Didn't get to finish it. Was kinda scary

I always thought the Alan Moore penned "From Hell" was unsetteling and creepy. It's about solving the Jack the Ripper murders. It is way better than the movie adaptation.

I recommend the works of Junji Ito! He does a ton of one off horror/ suspense reads. I really like his Hanging Balloons story.

Ash vs Jason vs Freddy is a good spooky comic.

You guys gotta check out Witch Doctor. It's a medical drama crossed with Lovecraftian horror. One hell of a good time.

The one comic book run that got me into comic books that aren't superheros was WolfMoon it is bloody awesome great art and I think great story, hang on let me double check that.................. Yea it's great story definitely worth a read

I wrote a graphic novel called ‘Tethered’ (tetheredcomic.com). It’s about two assholes from Colorado who become zombies, but their “souls” are tethered to their zombie bodies. Eventually, they learn to retake control of their bodies and become thinking murder machines. And then bad things. Also, on Amazon?

The first run of Marvel Zombies was great! Prolly cause it was written by Robert Kirkman, who created The Walking Dead.

I’d toss up The Goon. There’s always something supernatural going on.

I got to meet the artist for Infidel earlier this year. They had just released their second issue back in April, so catching up shouldn’t be a huge...issue 😉 It’s pretty great and it was optioned as a movie after two issues.

Have you read the crossed? A mate from work lent me a couple of issues and it is sooooo messed up but I couldn’t stop reading them.
