Makati Medical is the best! They partnered with the hospital where I worked in the U.S. Some doctors come to our hospital in the U.S. for conferences. For the total bill you got, that’s nothing compared with the cost in the U.S. My husband’s E.R. visit was over $4,000. No meds, just sitting around waiting for the doctor to see you and talked to him for under 5 minutes. Waited for 4 hours to see a doctor and this was in the U.S.A.

Next time when you and Lay go out, bring a water bottle ( insulated) put cold water, it’s so hot here in Philippines even face to face classes are suspended due to the super hot weather.. I know it’s a bit hassle bringing water bottle 😅 but better be safe than sorry so keep hydrated. Hope that all the lab results are okay

Tom, do your blood tests in Hi-Precision they have branches all over Manila. I arrived in Manila and had to have some blood test and it cost p33k and I fell off my chair 😅! I found Hi-Precision and the price dropped and the service and professional was great. They even have their own Dr. Results come back online and I just used to show the results to my Dr.

I had a similar experience not long ago... felt weak, dizzy, and had pains. Went to the emergency, they ran all the tests and was released after a few days . My follow-up visit with my doctor told me that an emergency visit treats you as if your life is in danger, and once its not, they release you to follow up with your doctor. For me, it turned out i had an infection, and after a week of antibiotics, i was good as new. It's great information knowing what you had to pay in both hospitals with no insurance, so all your viewers now know the costs . 👍 i definitely will have insurance once i get there, but knowing the cost in advance, i feel better now. Here, the cost of what you had done would have cost you enough to build a mansion and support you and your family for life 😂 so i guess you can be thankful you're in Manila tom 😊

I'm so happy to see you okay Tom! So Mr. Obvious here, if you had this total treatment in the USA without insurance it would have cost close to $20,000 dollars. One CT scan with contrast for the heart to check for a blockage and heart specialist appointment is close to that total. If you add in the emergency room visit it could be closer to $35,000 dollars. You got a great deal and spent less than my copay for the same thing and I have the best insurance through BlueCross!

I had similar symptoms . It sounds like you were dehydrated, your electrolyte balance was out. which causes muscle spasms and can cause dizziness. Also Gastro reflux can give you chest pain. All this leads to anxiety because you’re worried it could be something bad. Drink more water, get more sleep ✌️

You live (thankfully) & learn. I had to get medical treatment but not as serious as yours, I didn't have insurance either but they sorted me out, I was very pleased with the service I got. My wife's family said I paid to much but I was happy with it. I think when I move to the Philippines for good I will get insurance. Good to see you back on your feet.

The first place was just handy and you were panicked at the time, both of you. You have had thorough tests and MRI's are an expensive piece of equipment believe me, did you say you had two mri's? I only ever had one with breast cancer before treatment, I never had a repeat later on. That was still cheap in comparison to other hospitals in other countries. The US it would have cost you thousands of dollars believe me. If you were a visitor to the UK it would have been similar to US prices too. Although we have 'so called free' healthcare in the UK (which is a lie, because we have all paid for it with our NI contributions and taxes that are just getting higher and higher) you received excellent treatment in part 2, many tests so very thorough and to be under say a £1,000 you can't complain. Glad you are okay Tom. I love the way Lay talks to you and not the camera, she must keep being natural, I can tell she cares for you deeply....and vice versa!

Tom forget about the hospital itself - what was the cause of your initial symptoms? Dizzy and low BP points to pretty serious dehydration or food poisoning, etc. did you eat something weird, did you get no sleep or overheated the days before?

A young guy like him could get good insurance for $60 a month. I go with Geo Blue as it is the only travel insurance i know that will pay providers directly and guarantee payment over the phone quick. Not like these other ones that reimburse because these hospitals want it up front.

As we get older, we have to make more of an effort to take care of our health. It could be a hydration and electrolyte issue. Start eating healthy, work out, and stretch. You and your girlfriend can do it together.

My first thought was that you were experiencing a low blood sugar episode (diabetes), which can cause dizziness, light-headedness, nausea, and, in a worst case episode, coma. At some point you mentioned your diet and, yes, your particular diet would definitely lead to diabetes. I'm type II diabetic and your symptoms sound familiar. I wish you the best!

Makati Medical is just now 2nd tier Hospital in the Philippines after went bankrupt a decade ago (their trying to recover now). The present best Hospitals are Medical City in Ortigas. The 2 St Luke's Hospital, Cardinal Santos and Chinese Medical in Manila. Those are partnered with top US Hospitals and are accredited by US Medical Care Insurance. They're also the best for ER response than most Hospitals.

60,000 php seems a lot considering an emergency visit in USA is about$900 USDA or 51,000 php. But when its an emergency what you gonna do. Get well soon bud.

I am an American living in Makati. I saw an Orthopedic doctor and got two CT scans for approximately $315. The doctor told be exact what was wrong, went back to US for surgery because of insurance reasons and not back in Makati. Love it here.

Hi Tom,,I'm glad things are turning out ok! I recently had an MRI and it was around 1500 U.S. at my local hospital. Compared to other MRI'S in the region 1500 is cheap. Now,,,,,😂,,,600 is the dirtiest of dirt cheap. A year and a half ago,,I had heart surgery!valve replacement thru the front and was in the hospital for 15 days,,the total bill all included was 201,866 dollars,,but my insurance was great and I actually paid about 650. My advice food wise,,,is cut the beef and pork to 3 times a week or so,,and the other is gonna be Philippines blasphemy,,,,cut that crappy white rice way way down. White rice is like white commercial bread,,its useless crap,,full of empty carbs and carbs are sugar. All the healthy fiber is removed from white rice. If you guys are gonna cook at home,,I'd go to a rice place and get brown or red rice or at the very least,,basmati or jasmine. Basmati has actual flavor too it. All the fish and veg at wet markets,,holy shit,,I could eat like a champ. You guys really do have it made,,with that Chinese joint 3 times a week and the wet market. You may as well get going on a healthy lifestyle while you're still pretty young AND,,now that you have someone that appears to be pretty worthy to share your life with. The issues with your neck can easily be remedied by going to a chiropractor for neck, upper back and shoulder adjustment. The chiropractors there are really inexpensive. Anyway, food for thought.

Not sure if you saw my comment about Makati Medical, it's close to what we have come to expect in Western hospital. Really, guys should know about it before making the trip. Good job on getting there and letting others know your experience. The first place is far from the worst in the Philippines, it gets much worse ....A empty room besides a bed and mosquito net is not far from province standard. Guys need to wake up, our expectations are not reality when SHTF in the Phils.

You should apply for health card so if it will happen again u go directly to the hospital that is affiliated by the health card.. But ask first if the health card works internationally.. As i know if u are a resident of makati the municipality gives u a "blue card" in which residents can use it for free. Government hospital gives free medication but u will buy your prescriptions and other stuff needed while u are being treated.

Dont worry at this moment about your bill. Your health is most important. Of course in the US it would cost you thousands for just one test. Your best health possible is what matters.

I don't know why or understand why some Doctors like to put fear in people but they do love doing it. My baby brother Had a lump in his arm tight on the upper muscle. Now he showed me it and played with it and told me it don't hurt when he moves it around . I asked him if it was getting bigger and he said no. I asked if it hurts when he squeezes it and he said no. I told him I don't think you have anything to worry about. Well A few months later he was at the Doctors for his check up for his job and he just happen to show the Doctor the lump. OMG the Doctor said that could be Cancer you need to have that removed and tested right away you can't take any chances if it is cancer we might be in time to save your life. Well now my bro is in a panic scared and in fear of death. The next day he went to have it removed. The Doctor told him they will send it out to be tested and if it is cancer they will start the treatment as soon as they know. My brother then said well how long will it take and the Doctor said no more then a week and we will let you know either way if it is Cancer. Now my brother is scared thinking he is going to DIE. Week one went by nothing. Week two went by nothing. Every day he hears nothing it is getting worse and he called me up really PO and I said listen if you are that scared call the damn Doctor and ask. My brother did and the Doctor was not in. I think by the 5th week my Brother was at the point of beating the Doctor to death. I said listen call or go see the Doctor let him know how you feel about waiting. So the next day my Brother went in and Demanded to see the Doctor. They were playing with my Brother and I told my brother to don't take their crap and make them understand you will go Postal on them if you don't get answers. They then told him the Doctor is busy at the Moment and my brother made it clear he did not care if someone was split up he wants to see the Doctor now or he was going to find him and the Doctor will need his own Doctor.. Funny thing a minute later my brothers Doctor came out with his paper work and said what is wrong. My brother said I have waited 5 or 6 weeks for the test results to come in and you have not said anything to me yet WTF is going on. The Doctor said ho you are fine there is nothing wrong and no you don't have cancer. My brother even though he got good news was so PO that they didn't call him to tell him and asked when did the Test come back the Doctor I swear did not have an Education told my brother or the test only took3 days to come back. My brother was yelling and said you made me wait all this time and worry to think the worst was going on when you knew nothing was wrong and never told me?. Every one in the Doctors office heard everything. My brother let the Doctor know he is no longer going to be his Doctor. People started walking out of the Doctors office after hearing everything that happen with my brother.

60K php is cheap considering you were in Makati Medical Center ER plus the test and doctors that is if your making euro or US dollars, but for most Filipinos that is very expensive specially the average salary is 450 pesos/day. Their healthcare is catered for Filipinos who are rich and those who makes dollars or euros, this is the biggest problem in the Philippines as far I can remember…

No DO NOT ignore that reading. I'm in cebu and I literally just had the same thing happen last weak. Turns out I had a minor heart attack and they could only pick it up on the ecg after 3 days.
