Im really happy with my hype4. Tuning is awesome, fits alot of genres, tehnicalities are good all around. Very comfortable, vent well, no preassure whatsoever. They also look amazing imo (i have the black/blue). My guess is that diminishing returns kick in pretty steep after this. Like hype10 & monarch mk3 have very similar tuning, but slightly better tehnicalities costing 2 almost 2,5x more

you'd have to have very experienced ears to notice the difference between Hype2 and Hype 4 on most of your library. Funny how so little material was ever mixed well in the first place.

Yeah it kicked in for me at the Variations, the Vari and Xenns Up are both super good along with my Pula PA02, altho that's missing the airyness from the ESTs

While they have identical tunings, it's pretty apparent that driver count begins to take the lead. I agree that Hype 4 is the way to go out of the bunch. Hype 10 definitely deserves its praise but I suppose it's another case of diminishing returns. It's a tough comparison imo solely due to the fact that Hype 10 is more than twice the price of the Hype 4

theres also an opposite thing to paying a really lot for a small improvement.... not doing that -- that is, buying the 2nd best, and regretting not having "the best"., when a lot of times you're talking about maybe $2 per day over a couple of years of use. In the end a lot of people spend much more buying 5-6 IEM trying to get "the best" at a discount. Just human nature. But that's what makes it a hobby ... the pursuit of obtaining something 95% of "best" for half the cost, against the equal desire of having 100% "the best".

While I'm not going to deny the impact of driver count, they're not exactly identically tuned so the difference in sound shouldn't be attributed to the driver config entirely. There's plenty of variations b/w Hype 4 and Hype 10 to result in a noticably distinct/different sound in my experience. I believe that this product line is, maybe in a somewhat counterintuitive way, a testament to ThieAudio's sound engineers experience and tuning prowess/proficiency. It's a very interesting line up overall.

I'm glad to hear the hype 4 is the rec. Even though I've heard kilobuck iem's and think some are worth the price, I shudder at the thought of spending more that $500 for an iem. My wallet ain't that thick.

I have the Hype 2 and it feels... almost there. I'm going to go ahead and get the Hype 4. Similarly, I have ordered the Simgot EA500 LM, and have every intension of getting the Simgot EA1000 Fermat. I think finding the differences and what IEM works with a certain genre is the most fun you can have in this hobby. If I am going to listen to Jazz, I will grab a different set than if I'm listening to EDM. Vocals something different still. What a great time we live in to be an audiophile!!!

I have no doubt that Hype 10 will be objectively better than the Hype 4, but to pay twice the price for a tiny bit of improvement is the clearest example of diminishing return in action. The existence of the Hype 4 is a blessing for a lot of us who dreamed for the Hype 10 but can only spare a limited amount of budget. Anyway, glad to hear that you got your voice back!

The relation between driver configuration and perception of tonality is pretty confusing,because if they all graph the same the common sense is that they should sound the same. Nice vid!

There's not enough honesty on RU-vid. It's nice you remain true to your ethics BGGAR. Too many people are too scared of rocking the manufacturer boat and not calling out substandard circumstances when they see them. Not just in audio, and sadly even Chi-Fi is creeping up in price now. Monarch Mk1 vs M2, an instant example. Where will it all end. When you live alone and work part time, there just isn't this huge amount of disposable income. 11/10 for an honest rec.

I enjoyed listening to your personal thoughts about these three IEMs. Elise Audio also has squiglink graphs for all three of these IEMs. The graphs look rather similar to the VSG (techpowerup) graphs. Joyce at Linsoul recently did a live stream sound demo of all three of these IEMs. I preferred the Hype 4 over the Hype 2. It was much harder to discern the differences in the Hype 10 versus the Hype 4 other than noting that male and female vocals sounded slightly better and that the overall details were slightly more defined. I prefer to save $500 since I think that I will really enjoy the Hype 4 or perhaps something else at around the same $400 price point.

I'm not in that range of the market but it's good to see that you don't need to spend twice as much to get nearly the same performance. I wonder how well the Hype 10 holds up when you figure that the monarch is $100 more. It seems like a hard sell to me personally, as I'd rather stretch to get the Mark3.

The recent Hype 2 hype was starting to get to me, but when you mentioned Horse with no name had recessed vocals, I got reassured I don't need the Hype 2. Hype 10 is for those who can and want to afford it. I really like the idea of the Hype 4 being in the middle, so much better tuned (for me) than the 2 BUT doesn't cost a decent monthly salary's worth of money.

re: Hype 4 placing the vocals more forward in space than Hype2 -- that is so interesting. I wonder if the extra air of the 4 btw 9k and 13k makes the brain place the vocals differently in space? Or -- the extra 1-2db of the 4 in the 2k - 3k range could do the same thing. I wonder which it is? Which would mean... if you EQ 1.5db at 2.5k, do they stage the voice in the same place? I have noticed that EQing in that 2k -4k range is hyper critical to our perception... even 1db differences in that range are easily noticeable.

What a Hype. After hearing all 3 in comparison i would also go for the 10. could have the Hype4 for 285Bucks, but cancelled the order... (2 is not worth the money in my opinion, 4 sounds ok but there are a lot of other with similar driver setups and also good sound for a third of the Price) and the Hype 10`s price is near other Flagship IEM from the same Brand so there are others to compare with this. I think for someone who don`t buy each new IEM (can`t afford it) it is not a easy decision. Glad to hear you get better!

The 4 it is then, honestly though I never heard any Thieaudio products but heard a lot of good things about the Hype 4. But realistically, I am targeting the Simgot EA500LM next. I really like the EW200. Glad to hear your voice is back to normal 👍

you now when Resolve loves an IEM (Hype 4 -- he. said, "I would straight up buy this") and so does HBB... that has to be rare. The quality of IEMs compared to two years ago, at a price point, is amazing. Pricing has essentially dropped 60% for a given quality, and options have more than doubled. Makes you wonder if a Hype 4 type quality will be half the price in two years. Over the ear Headphone makers are probably starting to get really nervous.

Not sure if it’s actually possible, but can you explain the technical differences between each of the hypes? And I don’t see the reason why it’s wrong for your own personal rec to be the Hype10. It feels a bit like selecting the trim of a car. Each trim level is ostensibly the same car, with the same chassis and engine. Lots of people pay top dollar to get the top trim regardless, which is perfectly fine. And in the case of the Hype 10, it’s actually a different engine. A 10 cylinder vs 4, but with largely the same specification

Bang for buck is most important when new to the hobby or when entering a new pruce bracket. When I already have a collection, it's more important to know whether the new iem does anything differently or better than my existing sets.

I think on the one hand you're right, and on the other hand Thieaudio has positioned the 3 IEMs very well. I feel that the pricing policy is pushing buyers towards the Hype4 (maybe this was Thieaudio's intention) and they have made the Hype 10 for the few who want the best version from their new sets. I don't have a problem with that: there's no bad choice.

Very interested in the Hype series, this video makes me question if I should consider a Hype 4. Still has some other stuff in my head and nothing to buy right now, but it's interesting nevertheless. Also, thanks Chris for keeping the transparency. Saying "I hear it but I can't put my finger so maybe don't spend the extra money" is very important. Thanks for being honest without taking off your opinion.

i guess it really comes down to personal preference. It can be a good rec, but it will still be the ears of the listener to determine if that good rec would be to the listeners preference. ...Yes HBB, you do make sense😊

Thanks for the honest and precise thoughts and also the rec vs pref list. I am feeling about the same after listening comparison between hype 2, 4 and 10 on Linsol channel. Hype4 is the way to go between these 3 sets. Eventhough I am well aware of the diminishing return when the price goes up, but hoping more energetic and more noticable between 4&10.

Is the hype 4 good for EDM (I listen to a lot of ghettotech, breaks and Drum and bass to be specific) I am looking for somewhat slamming bass with enough separation in frequencies that there is no over lap. My OH10'S sounds weird with music that's got a lot going on and my Z12's sound kinda off with my EDM library.

Nicely put. Your explanation of rankings here makes good sense to me. It does seems like Thieaudio is stepping on their own toes. Why not spend resources on new lines rather than expanding a single one?

The Hype series has a similar frequency graph. Even if the frequency graphs are similar, you'll have to listen to them to compare. This will be very useful information.

Very helpful video. Not that I was eyeing the Hype 10 (too much for me) but I do admit I have my eyes on the hype 4. Glad to know it's close enough. I am not event that critical of a listener to bother with minor differences. I honestly think the Hype 2 would suit me just fine but after seeing the design of the Hype 4... Well, it is gorgeous.

Definitely loving the Hype series, although the 10 is getting up there towards Monarch 3 or LTD. I have the Hype 2 and I find that absolutely fine, especially considering the price.

maybe I'm the last who get over $500 and not in your patreon list, double lucky me then. and me too i would like to spend on more driver then less in the same price, look at 64 audio between u12t and trio, even tho the trio is more expensive but as we can see the u12t is scattered all over among audio enthusiast then the trio, but for me in sound the trio is more to my liking. and yeah every winner is responsible for their price taxes, but in some country the import tax is just too high. thank you chris, as always God Bless u & your fam
