@Jj K Well, that is, most of what you see here airs on PBS first, then I think goes to other sites like Pluto before YT, though I could be wrong as YT and Pluto could be reversed as far as when you see it there. I think we are now beginning to see some episodes from last season now showing up on YT.

This is our second K-Classic. We had our first one for many years, so when we had to replace it, we wanted nothing else but this exact ru-vid.comUgkxBrV-RbF5Nk0Rlt9i15aao-YMzqzTG8Vf model. We use it for about three people everyday in the morning. The taste and quick brew is one of the reasons we like it so much. There are so many choices of brands of coffee that we would grab what was on sale and test the different brands from there. I would definitely recommend trying different brands of coffee to find the ones you like the most because there are brands that quite frankly taste horrible.

I love my Ninja coffee maker. It is perfect for my family. The stainless steel carafe is not heated on an element but stays hot for about two hours, a pot doesn’t last that long at my house so it’s perfect for us. It has several settings from one cup, a to go cup, a half pot and a full pot which is also perfect for us. It cost more than $100.00 but has lasted over four years when others have only lasted one to two years. To each her own.☕️

For a one 16oz mug of coffee I use a Melitta #4 filter cone lined with a paper cone filter. Grind 1/3rd cup of beans in a blade grinder as fine as possible for maximum extraction. Transfer to filter cone. Boil the water in a tea kettle (or similar). Immediately after it boils, measure out ~two cups of near boiling water in a pyrex measuring cup. Pour the water into the cone. As the filter drains stir the water/grounds with a spoon and scrape the grounds down the sides to the filter into the remaining water to maximizes the amount of time the grounds are in contact with the water. Filter drains in 30 to 45 seconds directly into my stainless steel vacuum mug (Bubba Cup - simple and effective). Makes a great, cheap (apart from the beans) mug of coffee every time.

I have the Cuisanart grind and brew model. The previous one lasted for many years. I talked with a lady at a hotel who started her own coffee company and she gave me great tips to make sure it taste great in each cup! She recommends you clean the parts with just water and no soap and then the carafe soap and water. The reason being is that the oils from the beans that get stuck on the plastics really affect the flavor. If you remove them, the coffee will taste very acidic. I won’t be going back. My coffee has never tasted better.

Yep. My favorite whole bean is genuine Kona, but way too rich for my blood. So only 2 or 3 times a year. My go to is Red Goat from Kaladi brothers in Anchorage Alaska. My oldest sister brought me some when she came down for a visit. Still a little pricey so I only order one pound per month, and go for the stupid whole bean Duncan donut the rest of the time. Its not horrible, and pretty cheap at Walmart. Sagebrush coffee has some really good varieties as well. They only roast it when they get enough orders to ship. So you know it was actually roasted one to three weeks before. I'm going to try one of those coffee clubs to try new brands.
@upscalebohemian5372

It's not just that. Getting the grind right and emptying out a Brita filter and replacing it with new water (so it's oxygenated from the tap) makes a noticeable difference from just pouring in water from the tap. The grind size of the same coffee beans can make a dramatic difference in the taste, as can using an inexpensive grinder that doesn't make a unform grind so produces difference sizes of particles, the "fines" of which extract too quickly and harshly. A Eureka Mignon Filtro is a relatively inexpensive (and simple) coffee grinder that does an excellent job for drip coffee making and features a burr set that grinds uniformly without fines.

It appears this video was posted in Aug of 2022. The same $94 coffee maker today (Feb 2024) would no longer make the price cap of $100. Bonavita is currently selling it for a whopping $190. Reviews from owners all say it makes great coffee but several have had quality issues not long after purchase. Several complain that the thermal carafe doesn’t keep the coffee hot very long. Others complain that you can not store the carafe with its top on, in the unit because it won’t fit under the basket. I was willing to give it a try if it were still under $100, but when I saw that the price has skyrocketed to $190 with no apparent improvements - I’m out.

The Bonavita has never been priced below $100. Maybe this segment’s scriptwriter misread the store receipt and wrote $94 instead of $194? We used to have this Bonavita. One feature we didn’t like is you have to take off the brew basket and then screw on the carafe lid. Thus, a little bit of heat escapes. Not a big deal but the OXO brewer we now have, which is just as good, has the lid screwed on already for brewing so no heat escapes. Also, even though the coffeemaker is described as an 8-cup maker - it is NOT the expected 8 oz. Bonavita’s 1-cup is just 5 oz. So one pot of this coffee is just enough to fill my husband and I’s 20-oz thermal mugs in the morning.

Thank you for this article but I bounced between my breville and my French press for different reasons. If I want a fast lazy extremely powerful cup it's the breville if I want a smoother cup from expensive beans I go with a coffee press. If you're really a coffee nut you have probably three or four or five different ways to actually make coffee.

Yup. Four for me, as I ditched the drip style years ago, after experimenting with how quickly a brand new higher end Bunn became filthy. After two weeks of brewing, I brewed just plain water, swirled the pot in front of a sunlit window, and yup, tiny light colored floaties were everywhere. That's bacteria. And FYI, I was using purified, filtered water. Almost impossible to thoroughly clean the tubes and water reservoir on most drip makers. That's why I don't get soft drinks from the fountain. I go back and forth between a French press and an Aero press, but also use a moka pot or Chemex. Oops, one more, I also have a battered old aluminium stove top percolator that I use for elk and deer camp. I would use my French press, but... tradition. So, five for me. Oops again. One other method...sometimes on trail, I'll make cowboy coffee.

@@davidbuben3262 You just made me laugh because my breville sits in front of a window in the kitchen and in the winter time when the sun is low direct light on the back of the breville can cause issues. The worst is algae. I live in an area where algae flies freely in the air all times so I came back to use my breville after an expended period of time and the water in it had turned green. Oh that was a fun mess. I still find the French press to make the best cup. You can determine how much coffee actually gets in it and for how long it brews at what temperature three variables that are easy to control. On a work day I like to make a pot of coffee with about 2/3 the recommended amount. Of medium coarse grind on a deeper grinder. Yes as I've gotten older I've gotten lazy and bought an automatic grinder. I've gravitated towards a medium roast away from the dark roast and it's over burnt beans. Since I've learned to pop my own beans since I was a kid. My grandmother actually taught me to use a cast iron skillet but that's not really good idea and a houseless you have exceptional ventilation. But I bought a little coffee roaster that can do about a pound at a time and a wire basket. Looks like a microwave actually. Can get any second pop and darkness I so choose but I like medium to light. Another suggestion most people don't think about is to filter your water at least through a Brita. That will help with coffee in ways you probably won't imagine. The heating of the water and the combination with the beans can give you taste that you didn't expect especially if you live in a high sulfur area. Helps also alleviate alkaloid water problems. Anyway best of the being to you

After the 3rd went kaput I bought another brand and have been happy since. I do have hard water which is likely creating the problem in the first place but seems to not affect the new machine…which I descale using vinegar/water as recommended. Good luck!

I had that coffee maker and in about 4 years was replaced once by the manufacturer and then just recently went out again. I also paid almost $200 for it. Made great coffee but poor build quality. Can’t use the carafe to fill the machine unless you attached the lid, can’t pour without it otherwise it makes a mess. Upgraded to the technivorm mochamaster and makes the best coffee ever. Worth the $300

"We also used tap water because most people at home will use tap water." Don't use tap water folks. Filtered water is one of the easiest changes you make to have better coffee and most households have a water filter either at the fridge or the faucet.

That or if you have a coffee maker that uses a built in filter, use that. I need to change my filter in my coffee pot but agree, a filter does help, as well as using decent beans, not the pre ground stuff and even a so so pot can make a decent cup of joe. I have a Mr Coffee maker and it's fine, not stellar but fine and often it barely lasts me 2 years before it craps out.

I agree. However, I once owned a piece of some remote hunting property along with some close friends. It has an artesian well that literally boils out of solid rock and is piped right down to the cabin. We had it tested. Roughly 99.9% pure. Trace minerals and metals. Taste is phenomenal.

I LOVE my Moccamaster. I’ve had it at least 15 years. It continues to make fabulous coffee (of course you need good coffee beans). Before my Moccamaster, I bought a new machine every few years because the cheapies don’t last. Therefore my Moccamaster was & continues to be worth the extra money spent. Furthermore, every part, should one fail, is replaceable.

I bought the small 5 cup Bonavita on Amazon in May 2020 for $99. In March 2024, the 5 cup is $149, also the Amazon price. I believe the 8 cup is currently $189 on Amazon. It does make good coffee if you can get past the absurdly poor design of the carafe.

Bought this one based on their first review and that was over 6 years ago! It's had 6 years of good service with daily full-pot brews. (I do have to get the limescale off by running 50/50 vinegar & water through it every 2-3 years but my water quality isn't great. So if your brew cycle leaves water in the reservoir, do that instead of immediately returning it. ) I paid full price at the time: $133. I see it's gone up to $180. At that price I would just go buy a used moccamaster.

I've owned multiple Bonavita machines and they did go through a period of quality issues, including defective carafes that didn't hold the heat. I think they have fixed the issues, but the quality issues caused some reputation damage. Some of my issues were due to hard water and we now descale it regularly. I ordered a new machine and then descaled the old one and it started working good again. So we have a spare machine. I tried the Oxo model and the coffee doesn't taste as good. The Bonavita we currently have seems to be holding up well and the carafe holds the heat like it should. We also filter the water before putting in the machine which might be helping with our descaling issues.

It would be great to see reviews of single serve coffee makers (no pods please). I drink 1 cup of coffee (14 oz.) a day. There are a few out there. For instance the Black and Decker single brew is almost perfect. Add water, turn on, and you're done. I agree with @Bat, a pour over and a kettle would be a good option. I also agree with the recommendation of James Hoffman's RU-vid channel, he is a wealth of knowledge on coffee. You may also want to consider the Ninja Hot & Cold machine. It has separate brew baskets for coffee and tea. Both baskets come with mesh filters. However, the coffee basket can use a #4 cone filter instead of the mesh. It can brew several cup sizes, from a standard mug up to a 16 or 18 ounce travel mug, or a half or full pot.

I purchased the 5 cup version of the Bonavita for my wife and while it makes a nice cup of coffee, it is a PIA to use - particularly for making just one cup of coffee. It's simple, no frills, fast and has a long warrantee, the build quality is legendary. Best part is it's likely less money after Bonivita raised their prices.
