@@thebradcolbow i asked the creator if they can add a feature like that, they said they aren’t really planning it but might consider to add that in the future.
Toonsquid, Procreate, Nomad Sculpt... What do they all have in common? Yes, they're all iPad apps, that give creators powerful tools in a compact, lightweight device, but more than that, they are all upfront single purchases. No subscriptions.
Aren’t you the self aware animator on RU-vid who makes cringe animations because kids like it and you profit off of their obsessions with that type of content?
Fun fact for anyone down in the comments here, if you're worried about the import feature into the library and only being able to import one image at a time, you can import more than one image at once! Click the plus button, import from photos (as you have to do photos for it sadly) then press and hold on an image and it will allow you to select multiple to import! I am unsure if it works for files but you can try that as well with files. Hope this helps anyone :D
Purchased this app right after I saw this video. I started playing around with it and I am extremely pleased with how it works and everything you can do with it. So this is my thank you for recommending this app. I can’t tell you how long I’ve been looking for this type of app that makes it so efficient for my animations. Keep doing what you’re doing and know there’s always someone (like me) that appreciates your content. 😁
Hey Brad, guess what, ToonSquid now has the ability to export assets to be used for other projects in its 1.9 update. It also now has the ability to make shapes using a brush stroke, like in Procreate.
Found your channel just a couple of days ago, and I have made my decision to buy a Samsung tablet and start drawing. I'm 16 and an inspiring Architect and I always wanted a device that could help me achieve my dreams, I'm on a really tight budget, and your videos helped me make my final decision. Thank you for being so informative in all your videos, really appreciate the content, keep it up!
YES! I'm so excited you found this app too! I've been using it since launch and it's improved so much! Literally the Animate and After Effects (Motion Graphics wise) for iPad XD
I know, right? Some alts I'd also recommend are Callipeg (as Brad mentioned) but also Rough Animator? It's $5 and really cool, albeit far more limited than ToonSquid.
The vector tool suxxx. It'll look good in the app, but then when yu try to export, it looks like shyt 😒 came back to this video and it now makes sense why he DRAWS in PROCREATE FIRST.
Other than that? Too squid is alright. Symbols alone sets it apart. It baffles ne that no other animation app has considered this feature. Why would yu make the animators life harder with solely frame by frame 😒😂 get with the Times OLD MEN!!
@christianr.5868 Hey, so I'm using Nearest with Sharp Vectors* when exporting for animation. But I really like to make Animated Gifs too. And it comes off blotchy there as well....
@christianr.5868 And yet the drawing looks so good in the app. It's really weird lol. Thinking I just need to either draw in Procteate and import. Or find a more powerful post production app for the Ipad
Great you got around to using it, I've been using it for a month, and been seeing it rise to the tops of the charts. I had a feeling you were going to love it too when I saw the upload. I need audio scrubbing which it has and other bigger programs don't have(CSP) , it has a camera, which Callipeg doesn't have, and it has vector and bitmap layers (Which I wish adobe added to Animate), custom brushes, and etc, really cool. It's like if Flash and Procreate had a baby. Can't wait til further development.
It seems like animation apps on the iPad are slowly getting better, but it still feels like the skill ceiling on an app like this is much lower than some of the apps on desktop. I'm still waiting on the day Toon Boom Harmony is ported to iPad (hoping that since Harmony 21.5 they moved to being M1 native, we see an iPad version at some point in the future).
i´d love that, or TVpaint wich is my dream, but i´m afraid that day is not coming any soon. This animation companies are very reticent to do that. The best animation app right now, take it or leave it, is Clip Studio Paint. I think it´s really professional beyond the awckward timeline and frame management.
Agreed. I was super excited to move to ToonSquid (pretty much everything I do that isn't animation, I do on iPad, nowadays). But a bit of chug eventually developed in a workfile I was doing because I was working purely in vectors, which TS wasn't fully equipped to handle. There's also the issue of not being able to distort symbols the same way you can in the desktop apps (yet, anyway). I'd also love for ToonBoom to come to the iPad, but I hope that, if they do, its in a form where the interface is designed for the tablet (and not having access to a keyboard/hotkeys) rather than simply porting over the desktop application.
@@SkipperWing Honestly I just want Toon Boom to be directly ported, with no UI change. I think the biggest issue these iPad apps have, is they want to make everything touch accessible, but that means they just can't implement a lot of key functionality in an understandable way for touch. I think the best example is DaVinci Resolve - they've managed to port the key functionality so far (with more coming), whilst keeping it (as far as I can tell) quite close to the desktop app. That is what I'm after, desktop power in a portable application.
I wish I could have Toonboom for iPad as well, although I wouldn’t mind if they would have to simplify it and make it cheaper, cuz I think I’d skip if the license was to be the same price as the desktop
@@LucasSaturn That´s one of the reasons Clip Studio is the best app in Ipad. It´s exactly the same desktop app, with all the features. They prove it can be sucesfully done. Of course there is a suscription, i know, but no one else did a 100% port version like them. Fresco is taking Procreate place too, especially in animation. Why, Procreate, why did you turn to 3d?? :(
Hi if u can help me with this I started animating in squidtoon but I don’t know how to put a pic as a background to make it as a reference for my lining process ! It’s really a big prob plz help me if u know how 😭
@@Twilight-0000 I'm not at my iPad right now, so take my suggestion with a grain of salt. I think what you should do is in the TiMELINE click the add (+) button to add a layer. Pick "Image" from the options, and then find and select your image. Make any size changes you need to. In the Timeline, drag the duration of the image to length of your animation, just as you would other layers.
thank you for reviewing toonsquid !! its hard out here advertising this godly animation app by myself 😂 thank u sm !! im sure keiwan - creator/dev of toonsquid, will appreciate this review ! :D
I bought this app when it came out, haven't played around with it much as yet but the demo looked amazing. Great review of it. You should do a course on it.
Well, I was watching a Procreate tutorial, (cats-it’s waaay out of hand), and noticed your video on the side panel. Needless to say, ToonSquid along with Nomad & Procreate, is now part of my artistic portfolio. I would have never known had I scrolled past. Everything you said is spot on. Ease of use, excellent UI, and powerful. It has the Davinci brush set to boot. Great App and great presentation!
Is it better than callipeg? I want to buy one, but I’m having a hard time to decide, I bought RoughAnimator a while ago, it’s good, but lacks some features. So, I’m trying to decide between toonsquid and Callipeg, but there are not that many videos or post comparing these two :c
I wish it had a trial! I need to see what it can do hands on. I love the tweening if it works like old Flash use to, but can’t test it without paying for it, OG well.
Symbols and Tweens?? BRO and $10 bucks!! ONE TIME!?? Any complaints ive seen via reviews are things that can easily be rectified. Well worth it, its about tiiime! 1 yr ago, no wonder word hasn't got out. 🤫😂😂
YOU COVERED IT! I was waiting for this, found this about maybe a month ago but haven’t used it much 🫠 smooth brain on animation programs in general haha (got tired of years when FlipaClip would delete my animation man…)
Brad, the software is great, it even works on my iPad Air 4. However, if you plan on making your videos with the animated Brad, yellow background, and lip-syncing, you better have one project as the main rig setup, and duplicate it for future projects. Why I'm telling you this, because right now ToonSquid isn't able to share assets from one project to another.
Couldn't have found this video at a better time! I searched high and low for a good application and for some reason didn't find anything useful. Got this video suggested to me today and I'm really happy with this new app. Thank you so much Brad! ❤
Like all your videos so good. But I have been re-watching this A LOT as I work with the app. It is fantastic. People are going to be able to push this thing to do a lot more then I believe the creators are expecting.
This is amazing! The ipad truly lacks a complete animation app and looks like this one is the best one yet. So you can also animate in vectors? Like adobe animate?
@workbynaja just got it and absolutely love it. Roughanimator, Flipaclip, Procreate absolutely rock but this simple classic symbol library creation has been greatly missing on all of those apps. Wish it was on Android as well.
@corimyers4985 Same here. Once you built your symbol library, you animated to your hearts delight. Lol. I never got into Adobe Animate because of the subscription requirement to use it.
Hey Man, I love your channel and I got to know about Toonsquid because of you so thank you. But I do not see a very strong community for this app so it would be great if you could please make more content on this app. Thank you so much for your videos have a great day.
i wish more people knew abt this app, truly.. 😔💔 there is a toonsquid discord server though, we try to help as much as we can >_< ! (the server can be found in the official toonsquid github forums, linked on the toonsquid site under discussions!)
I’m curious how much it is. I come from an animation background and used to animate the full character so I’m curious to test this one out and compare it to others.
I've been considering getting an ipad just for this. As a pro who uses animate (the program I love and will never stop using) do you think it's possible to work with both this and animate? Using this on the go and working in animate at home? I'm very inexperienced but have recently been going hard in the animation game
For adding things to your library: Could you use Stage Manager with your files app open on one side and ToonSquid on the other side, then drag and drop files into library?
Thank you so much for this video! It helped me so much since I didn’t realize the clip studio paint license I purchased is PC only, and doesn’t work with iPads for animation 🥲 this tutorial also helps so much for key frame animation that I’ve desired for ages 💖 (procreate animation is kinda cursed)
It's clunky for sure. I just may draw in procreate and animate in this. I just got it a few days ago and started making my own custom brushes( I learned I gotta use pngs), if you import a jpg texture it not only will not work, but you cannot delete it from program. I never realized how much I use the selection tool! Trying to use the selection tool trying to change colors, sometimes it will, sometimes it won't. You are on one layer, but if you don't lock other layers stuff will move. It does do some cool things, tho! So far, It's worth the money I paid!
Yea 😂 I tried to export after making a vector drawing with paint brush used for skin tone highlights. The quality was lost but looked decent in app. Drawing/Line nd Color in procreate 1st is best 💯
i love your videos |Brad . ive always wanted to start digital art and animation ,but i cant afford a drawing tablet and im from africa Malawi. i wish i could start digital art. love you. dumchi 😅
Brad! 😢I have spent three days now trying to get the symbol/marker thing going in ToonSquid and am totally lost in the woods. When will you offer a course on this promising application
Brad - I agree. Please, please, please cover the whole symbol/market (and hence lip sync) thing!!!! I try, and it's not going anywhere. Otherwise, I'm really digging this app.
Ok i like toonsquid i think its a good app, what i like about procreate dreams is the time line is inside both a dedicated timeline and in the flipbook feature, if toonsquid had this i would honestly say it is the best animation app ever, the flipbook feature is just better for me to animate with and makes things more simple for me in my own opinion
That is so cool! I have had rough animator for over 2 years now, and I haven't touched it often bc it's a pain to use and it lags sometimes. I'll see how toonsquid goes.
Im 39 years old I have always loved to draw and stopped due to some mis encouraging art teacher. Is it too late for me to join this animation and digital art scene?
YEEESSSSSS OMG i've been waiting for so longgg sdjkfhksaf XD after learning the more intermediate(or even more) animation tools, it's just hard to go back to just the basics which is basically the only stuff available on the ipad that time
I like in adobe animate to use the stroke brush tool over a form to be able to separate it and then using the fill tool with too different colors and after that erase this stroke on all the images by once with the multi edit, which is a real time saver. There are some similar things like process on toon squid or the easiest way finally is to use the toogle mask? I hope I was clear and thank you in advance :)
5:44 Hi~ Thank for sharing this great animation application ! Can you make a vid of which app you used for your voice recording and how you imported that voice file into this app? Doesn't this app have any recording function ?
This is gonna be so helpful since I do tweening for gacha videos but I use CapCut and it’s quite unhelpful and has limited layers /overlays which I don’t like so this will definitely be of help!
