Hi Tony. Fantastic mod. I've added just about every mod out there to my Jetson, including being able to carry and easily change out three batteries for long rides. However, until now I've held off on hacking the speed control because I wanted a simple, cost affective solution that didn't add more clutter. So your solution checks all the boxes for me. It's the best electric out there for fun on the trails. Thanks again for sharing your engineering skills with all us Jetson Bolt Pro fans. I'm a new subscriber for you and I will keep watching for more of your ideas.
Hello D Hoffman, I’m glad that this solution works out for your Jetson Bolt Pro. It really is an amazing electric vehicle! Thank you for the subscribe, it really means a lot to me!
This is a wonderful hack, my son said he wanted to go faster on his bike so he decided to do this, the results are great, the hack works, this great video helped a lot.
@@obl1xif_y981 I did this to my bike i got in July of 2021 and it increases the max speed to around 16.5-17 MPH (throttle only). I commented before i did the hack.
I wrote the program for the speed hack. For those wondering "Why am I not getting 19 mph when I set it to 19 mph" : This hack programs the controller to attempt 19 mph, but without upgrades to the battery (adding another battery in parallel to be able to push more amps) it may not be achievable and instead you will only see a slight improvement. Just the same as when the battery state of charge is low you will notice it has less power and speed.. or when you throttle and you see the bars on the display drop from 3 bars to 1 bar - the battery is the weakness to achieving the desired speed. Thank you for making a video tutorial about the program to get it out to more people that wish to do it and playing customer service- I was getting a lot of comments asking how to do it which has stopped now thanks to you! Also, I just updated the program today to be more constant at verifying the hack has been complete - watch for 2 blinks of the headlights.
I used this process last week to update my daughters Jetson Bolt Pro in addition to adding a parallel battery, 60T chainring, and folding pedals. What a difference. Now that little bolt can keep up with our full sized ebikes. It goes around 16-18mph with my 10 year old with a little pedaling and we went 19 miles and it only used 1 bar. The second battery is 10.6ah giving it around 17ah at 36V nominal. We passed some stock Jetsons on the bike path and it was quite a difference in speed.
For anyone considering doing this speed mod, here's my experience. You will probably need a bigger chainring to increase the gearing to compensate for the added power. Even at lower speeds, I found my gears were constantly spinning and not giving me enough resistance from pedal assist. For those only wishing to use throttle power, this would be fine. But I wanted to keep my pedal assist to give me some more exercise and to give me more range.
If you care about exercise, maybe consider disabling pedal assist. I know there are many great tutorials on how to do it and it will give you more speed when you pedal!
@@angelor6899 Hi & thank you for your question. Yes it should work fine as both bikes are basically the same (Made in the same factory by the same company). The DYU is made by a company called "F-wheel" who also sell the bike to other companies who then put their own badge on it, i.e. "Jetson". Not sure if you know but there is also a reddit page for the bikes where there is loads of info worth reading.
why would you get an ebike for exercise? just ride a regular bike? The pedal assist is just working better with the added power, its literally just assisting you more. Your gears spin whenever you pedal, thats how gears work, so I'm not even sure what your trying to say?
used this mod and it worked! I am able to go around 18 mph, I'm seeing in the comments that some of the newer models of the bike do not work with this mod so if you have bought the bike recently I wouldn't recommend trying this out.
I think you are correct. I just bought mine last weekend and did the mod but no change in speed between my pre and post test. I already had the Arduino board so it was only 20 min of my time to try.
Thank you, i bought the board you showed, made up some wires to connect it and upped the speed to 20 mph all through watching your video. Im so pleased. P.s. i do have a faulty throttle but that was like it before anyway.
Done, Thanks ! 32km with back wheel in air, Kugoo V1. If hack didn't work u need to replace/rewrote False to True in agree arrangement which is in the sketch right under to 19th mile line
Thanks. It works. I've set it to 23mph. When the bike reaches 22-23 it starts reducing speed, which can be felt especially on a downhill. But I also did shunt mode and installed 48v 10Ah battery. I also have two fans inside the case to prevent overheating.
I was able to use this hack, i adjusted the speed to 20 and tested and 22 and tested, on a straightway there was no difference but it does add about 3-4 mph for sure!
I just scored five of these Bolt Pros at Costco yesterday for the family and I. What a blast... Even more now that I ran across your video and was able to successfully reprogram a few of them (getting late here now) tonight for quite an improvement. I'll have to GPS each of us and see how quick they really are. Thanks for this video!
I just purchased one from Costco and I wasn’t able to do the speed hack, I did all the steps and got the two blinks from the headlight but still is only limited to about 14 on flat ground. Any ideas?
@@dylansessions9027 mine too and got mine last year from Costco (5/2021) build date. I don’t know how these recently purchased Jetson bikes are taking the hack unless they are NOS…
I borrowed a Jetson Bluetooth module to do mine last fall, but I just picked up a 2nd Bolt Pro for my wife, and I will be doing this to mod her speed. Thankyou so much for the video !
After watching this I ordered the bike and Arduino. My e-scooter has similar specs and price but it's hard on the knees after 30+ minutes and I'd like to burn some more calories. Cheers!
Thank you for making this video because I just got up my Jetson j5 and and it doesn’t have any lights for this hack so I guess I still do the hack and then just press the red button just in case and see if it works?
Great tutorial that was to the point, worked exactly how you mentioned even though I used an off brand Elegoo Mega2560 that I've had laying around unused for years - everything lined up 1-to-1 perfectly from your instructions and the Arduino site and agent work with it too. Thanks! Got two headlight flashes the very first try because of you.
Thank-you for your videos on JETSON Bolt . Because of the upgrades you have encouraged us to buy a JETSON! I can hardly wait to ride the e-bike! -Angèle
Great content and if you have any suggestions on how to pass the 19 mile explain what I need to do so I could do it thank you. I’m by the way I’m 48 years old and yeah, I should’ve looked into electric bikes a little more before I got this one because a lot of the other electric bikes got More accessories than I do so I have to get the accessories and upgrade, but I love the bike though have fun. It’s just to be faster. It’s just my nature. I think it is everybody. I just don’t wanna ruin my bike. You know what I mean, I mean, it was a good price. I could probably get another one you know but no, thank you on the video
I have one. Love it! Only thing is the small tires, that won't make it up a small curb, driveway lip, sidewalk, without twisting & throwing me off. I literally have to come to a complete stop, lift the bike onto the curb, then start back up again.
Great tutorial! You've got a new subscriber in me! I did have one question though. I know that breadboard wires are just 22AWG solid conductor wires of which I already have TONS. I don't need to buy more wires, do I?
Great video ! I think Jetson might have released a new controller model or it is now shipped with a different version because I have done what the video says and got the double flashing at the end but the bike is still limited to 25Km/h.
I did this on a Bolt Pro I bought on July of 2021 and it DOES work. However it doesn’t go 19 MPH even when you set it to that. It goes around 16.5-17 MPH which is still an improvement from 13-14 MPH
Really good mod. On my Jetson Pro I followed your instructions and it worrked exept that my bike was maxing 21 km and it went up to 25km/h for unknown reasons even if set to 30km. Good job and thank you!
Well, I did this and hooked it up, saw the light flash twice and thought, great, good to go. However, when I rode it, the most I could get is 14mph pedaling. I'm about 169lbs. So either it didn't work or I have some defect. The head light blinked so it ran the code but didn't seem to make a difference:(
Same situation. I'm wondering if the bikes are too new and the software has been updated to eliminate this work around? Plugging in the elegoo board work. I was even able to slow the bike to 8 mph, it just will not exceed 14mph.....
Great video. So can this be accomplished using a Mac? On another note, can this be performed on the Jetson Haze? I have two Pros but considering getting the Haze.
How are you doing? I am subscribing and I just want to say I’m trying to understand how to get the code. How do you get the to the page where the speed limit is? I got the board I got the wires. I got my laptop windows. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong, if this any possible way, you can possibly explain it to me thank you anyway I’ll keep watching your video over and over. I’ll try and get it. I really will but thank you for putting it there because it’s the most I’ve ever seen anybody through this show somebody thank you
What does one headlight blink mean? I tried this hack tonight and that’s all it did - no two blinks. Thanks in advance! And thanks for putting together this awesome tutorial!
Thanks! - Can you send me the link on adding an external battery to the Bolt Pro? What size batter is it that lets it go 21mph? Also, have you ever done a hack that lets the Jasion EB7 go faster than 20MPH with throttle only? I need one! TY so much! You are awesome!
Question, I just heard today. Can you use a 48 volt battery instead of a 36 volt battery, do the Speed Hack, and obtain a speed of 22 mph? Several riders mentioned this on the Facebook page today, and said you could use the Standard Controller and Motor. Is this true?
Help me out. I cannot get a speed increase in the bike. I loaded code, checked connections, loaded code to the bike and got the two flashes of the headlight. I've tried a few times without luck. Any advice ??
I got this to work today, but it took me and hour an a half, and 3 attempts. For anyone trying this, don’t fully put the case back on (just about half the screws) because it will save you SO much time if it doesn’t work the first time. 😊
I weigh 226 pounds and I'm 6ft 3" tall. I was getting a top speed of 19km/h on flat ground before I did the hack and now I get 23km/h on flat ground. Though it's not the improvement I was hoping for, I'll take what I can get. I hope this is helpful to the other giants my size. Thanks for the tutorial.
Hi Tony! Thank you for the video tutorial! Very clear explanation! I have two Jetson bolt pro, one is 2021, and the other is Oct 2022. My 2021 JBP worked!! but the Oct 2022 didn't work. Is there a separate code for Oct 2022 JBP? Thank you!
Reading through other comments, it seems that you have to change the line AGREE_TO_TERMS from "FALSE" to "TRUE", on the other variable (line 54 on his video, at 5:42). Also, click the reset button on the board so you can see the light blink twice. Hope this solves your issue!
Truly the best and simplest way to speed hack the bike I cannot wait to do this myself and I’ll let you know if it goes well question though, does the speed remain consistent throughout the charge?
Hello Lauren! The speed remains consistent throughout the charge until the battery reaches around 15%, but this is the same even without the modification. Hope to help!
hi, nice tutorial. quick question if i can use the exact same code on Arduino NANO EVERY? i have that in my hand and to my understanding, it will be the same, just need to be careful where the new location of the digital 3 pin? Many thanks!
This looks easy and straight forward, great tutorial! Will I be able to revert the code back to factory settings afterwards? If so, any chance that you can post a link to the original settings so I can download them for future use. Thanks!
Hello Eren, Since the code is still intact, to revert this hack you would just set the MPH to 15, then repeat the same process. The code looks complicated but it’s pretty much just changing one variable in the Jetson code. Thanks for watching!
Hey Tony, I was just wondering that what programming language did you use for the Jetson pro? I have further more questions but hope you answer this one. Please answer.
Hi! Do we need to buy 3 separate breadboard wires or do they come with your recommended arduino board? Also, do you have any videos on how to put the code onto the board? I am not super familiar with arduinos.
just did this hack and not seeing much difference, went from 13.5 mph to 15 mph. I did change the value to 8 mph limit to confirm it's loading properly and it did decrease the max speed. Tried increasing the value to 23 mph and got the same top speed of 15 mph so seems like it's the hardware limit.
Hello Jusrushem69, I put a link to the exact wires I used in the description of the video. I've had the Arduino board for a while, so I don't have the exact listing, but any Arduino UNO board should work. Thanks for watching!
Hi, I just wondering do you know? Could you make this sort of bike go any faster DISPATCHED DYU AIF 16" Folding Electric E-Bike, 36V, 7.5Ah, 250W Motor,
Nice tutorial subbed. So once the code is loaded does it stay loaded to the board so say I could mod 20 bikes in a row without going back to the computer?
Tony I just bought 2 Bolt pros, one for me and one for my wife. We did the update but saw no increase in speed. Is there something different in the code of the newer bikes?
Hi Tony, if I buy the "ELEGOO UNO Project Super Starter Kit with Tutorial, 5V Relay, UNO R3, Power Supply Module, Servo Motor, 9V Battery with DC, Prototype Expansion Board, ect. for Arduino" do I still need to buy the breadboard wires? Thanks
Awesome tutorial. How pedal assist working with 19mph speed, does it become too fast to keep up ? Would really love to see your tips on removable battery hack, getting tired to have to bring indoor to charge especially in winter :)
Hello John! The pedal assist still works with the 19mph speed, but it may be too fast to keep up because of the gear ratio. However, this really depends on how fast you can move your legs. I’ll take a look into writing a script for a removable battery video. Thanks for watching!
Great to hear. Look forward to seeing your script and tips on removable battery, did you remove the female charger plug also from the cover so you could reuse the charger ?
Hey John! The video for the removable battery hack is up now, you can check it out here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7HDD4SCJ1MI.html
@@TonyQuillMagic another awesome tutorial. Just followed your video instruction and did speed hack. Next ordering a bike rack, case and xt60 extension for the movable battery mod :)
I tried this on a newly bought Jetson Bolt Pro from Costco, the headlight flashed twice, I also reset the arduino board to make sure, and same result on the lights, but when I tested, the mileage did not change to 19mph. I read from other comments that this hack no longer works on newer versions of the Jetson Bolt Pro. Is this true? Thank you!
Assuming a flat surface, speed is relative to how heavy the rider is and tire pressure (friction). I don't think this bike has any way to measure speed so what is this hack actually doing? Is it allowing the motor to have more current or spin faster? If so the speed increase is mostly relative to the rider weight. For example I weigh about 180lbs and the max speed I can ride is 12 mph. Since I can't get to 15 mph to begin with, I'll never be able to achieve 19 mph. So will this hack enable me to get up to maybe 15 mph, roughly increasing the top speed by 3 mph? If this is just increasing the max speed from 15 mph to 19 mph and not doing anything to increase the power to the motor than the hack is useless to anyone who can't achieve 15 mph to begin with. I just ordered a board so I will try it and report back. UPDATE: Completed this and I got a slight boost in speed, before it would max around 11-12 and now it maxes around 13-14. Good enough for me, don't think I would want to go over 15mph anyway.
The hack is taking away the limit set to 15.5mph for EU ruling. What you can actually get after that will depend on what the motor can do, Or what the controller can do etc..
Easy to understand video but I did everything required got the 2 blinking lights reset just to make sure got it again and still get same top speed. Should I change the 19mph max to 25 or something or is there something I may have missed? Thanks in advance.
Hey Tony great step by step, you sold me on this bike, just be clear after you hack using the module, you disconnect it and it will always stay at the speed you set? You dont keep the module connected during use?
Hi there, my UK version Bolt Pro is limited to 3mph on the throttle but is 15.5 with pedal assist. If I install this code will it also remove the 3mph limit from the throttle? Thanks
I'm trying to use this hack but when I get to the stage where I plug in the elegoo board it does not even recognize it. Is it the board that I got or am I doing something wrong??
Hi Tony, need some help. I used your hack but for some reason is not working. Here is what I notice, when I connected the board to the bike, the light will only flash one time. Once I hit the reset button on the board, the light with flash twice. I assume that completed. I unplug the cable and test drive it. All I got is 19KMH and 19 MPH. I tested my wife Jetson with mod and I was able to get 22KMH. So the hack seems to limited my bike to 19 KMH. I am from Canada and the bike was purchased at a Canadian Costco. What do you think I have gone wrong. Thank you
Thanks for the tutorial. Do you believe that this would work for the (non pro) jetson bolt ? It is the jetson bolt with foot pegs. I also have both a 400w kugoo b2 and a 500w Ancheer same style and frame ebikes as the jetson bolt & pro. Is this hack specific to the bolt pro ? Thanks !
Hello Ray! I believe that this will work for the Jetson Bolt (the non-pro one with legs), as the motor controllers run similar software. I'm not exactly sure if the code will work on the kugoo and the Ancheer, and I haven't been able to test those bikes. I have heard they may run similar code, but it's possible it may mess up the software on the bike. Overall, I would do it at your own risk, but I feel like it would work well with the other Jetson Bolt.
i have the dyu d3f 36v/250w and kugoo kirin v1 48v/400w , afraid of testing this code. Q1- my dyu comes without bluetooth but my kugoo bt works on the dyu, is there a chance to clone the bt. Q2- can i download the code from the controller has a copy? (probably not)
Is there any way this will work for other similar e scooters? I have a phantom gogo r1 (not the exact scooter but my model was discontinued and removed from the sellers website) I want to know if I can do this same hack with that scooter
Hello Luke! I just made the battery easier to remove by placing it on the rear rack, but since the connection the battery uses is a standard plug, I could easily buy a larger battery and put that one on the rear rack instead. Setting the speed to 19mph will slightly decrease the range of the bike, but won't cause any harmful long-term effects. This motor & battery output is designed to go up to 19mph. Hope you found this helpful!
@@TonyQuillMagic hey I just tried to do the speed hack on my Jetson pro I purchased about a week ago from Costco and I followed all the steps and still only gets about 14mph. Is there new firmware blocking the jack now?
Hello like your video and was wondering,I got mine but it's top speed is only five miles an hour they're advertising it as 15 mph. I haven't took the cover off to see exactly what size the battery is it's got to be a dinky one if it's only five miles an hour. Yeah I got the first one without pedals and for miles, mine is just a little over 10 miles,
Amazing service great video and instruction I found it kinda tricky to find where to save the code on your link but once I did everything worked as planned
Thanx for the video. I got the same uno from amazon with cables and uploaded at 19. I weigh about 190 +or- and I reach 17mph without pedaling and with a little pedaling i reach 19. Before i use to be able to pedal and feel a slight drag and now when I pedal its almost hard to keep up. I was scared to program since it's my first-time operating hardware that's not a built-in app from a tablet but the videos you uploaded are easy and simple. Thanx again for all your knowledge and wisdom :)
Update After several miles of riding my max speed without throttle speed went down from 17 to 14 and when I pedal can only reach 17 but is very difficult to achieve. 😞 I’m going to re upload the file again to see if my max speed changer at all
