I used to own an AE111 Trueno with super strut. Had a nice kakimoto N1 exhaust which gave it a nice race car roar! Very fun to drive especially through the mountain roads. Going through tunnels was music to my ears! God I miss that car. Thanks for the awesome review! 🙂
It's surprising a relatively small country with limited resources are able to make so many great reliable and comparatively cheap cars. Japanese are unreal and am not just bragging about it.
@@Syncopia That's how the mainstream wants people to view Japan but when you look at work culture around the world there are many that put in hours but lack the same productivity.
retarded ass comments, Japan had an economic bubble in the 90's that created lot of really well off young people, when the bubble burst japan stopped making fun cars .
@@RayQ101 Uncultured normies. To be fair, I've learned the most about JDM through this channel. Back in the day, I only had Gran Turismo 2 to judge. Later Initial D helped a bit too.
rhetoricderp yeah but who cares? Most things in this world are subjective to the individual so it’s irrelevant that someone else might think I’m just driving an old corolla, because technically, I am :) and I love it!
F - compact dohc (economy) - 2 cams, one cam gear E - fuel injected G - hi performance dohc - twin cam, twin cam gears Z - supercharger Numbers - generation of the engine series e.g 4A GE : 4th gen, A series hi performance twincam, fuel injected :) Info: yamaha collabs with toyota since the 2000gt was debuted in the 60's
Yes. However internals from the 4age block is different from the 4afe. From the pistons, main crankshaft. If you want to experiment the afe block replace it with different pistons with the same 81mm bore.
I saw a 50 minute video and thought I'm gonna skip through it all. I ended up watching the entire video. Very well done with excellent knowledge and history.
The black top are actually the worst to make power with. I had a gtz for a while, the factory supercharged model from early 90s, much better motor, way more torque
@@offgridas I do agree. But even stock the blacktop is a lot of joy to drive. Transplanted one into my daily driven Corolla SEG 1998. Minimal modding. ITBs, extractor, piping. Sounds great and revs pretty hard.
To me AE-111 seems like a low-key S-14 until up close you can see the difference, but it's a great looking ride to me this is actually first time seeing it, I've heard of them on references in magazines and shows like Best motoring. Now I want it after seeing it. Thanks Captain I'm hooked on another Toyota already wanted the Ae86 coupe and hatch now an AE-111 I'll be dreaming about 😁
The TOM'S ae111 was my favorite car in gran turismo 2. I Bought a 1990 AE92 GTS with factory small port 4age in 2003. Still have it, it's been the best car I've ever owned. I Also own a 1976 TE37 hard top coupe and an ae85 with 4AGZE swap making 170whp. Corollas are the best! Keep up the great work JDM masters.
gotta say, what an amazing park to shoot the video and you are spot on when revving the engine all the way to the top it does sound like a race car! and i'm so happy to see that you guys are sponsored! congratulations!
5 valves per cylinder making it sing. Probably the best 4 cylinder I've ever heard. Not counting motorcycles and nothing specific. I have another love now, Mazda KLZE v6. Tons of that race car sound echoing around and off of everything as you drive. Tunnels and parking garages being a treat.
Always love your car reviews, the information is so detailed and educational. The knowledge and research that each video contains are amazing! Thank you JDM master for making them!
Recently acquired an AE111 Trueno with a 4A-FE. It's surely not as powerful as the BZ-G or the BZ-R but it still is a joy to drive. The 111 really seems as the forgotten child of the Trueno/Levin line.
This video is my favorite from you guys! One of about 10 ae101 levin gt apex owners here in America, definitely a criminally underrated car 101 and 111 both
Aussie here with likely the best AE101 in the country, unfortunately I'm considering selling it to make way for my new GR Yaris. Do you think it would be worth my while to look at exporting it to the USA, would there be interest/demand for a completely modified FWD 1993 Corolla?
Appreciated that you did what's necessary for the sponsors (cause sponsorship is a good thing for longevity) and got right back to the fun that we relish
Corolla is not a Spanish word. It means "small garland" in Latin. Toyota named it after this because of the Toyota Crown, which was the flagship model at the time.
I have an AE111 Levin, it was my first car and since then 3 years ago I smile every day that I drive it. Such a nice car, both for daily driving and for mountain passes, it just eats corners. It's a blast to drive and i would buy it again. Here in Peru its quite a popular car for begginers in motorsports like rally or circuit races.
Damn, I kept saying this again and again. If the camera world got Kaiman Wong who is an Asian and speak like a true Buckingham resident, the car world got this man!
This is a good channel. This guy is really informative with interesting topics and he’s not a try-hard trying to crack lame jokes left and right like a lot of other channels I watch. Good work!
In awe at your incredible knowledge of cars, and ability to speak multiple languages. Great at making RU-vid videos, presenting, and interviewing people too. Subscribed.
There’s one car that’s hardly ever reviewed, the rarest of the JDM machines that uses the 20v black top 4age the 1999-2001 AT210 Toyota Carina GT, came with short throw shifter, lsd six speed box, please review this hidden gem, I’m a proud owner of one of these underrated gems.. (p.s the left rear trailing arm adjuster knuckle or barrel lock nut is loose.. )
It's the first time I see one of your videos and I love it. I love the relaxed, detailed format without getting too much into technical specs (which I do like) over the history of the car. All in an almost hour long documentary style video? 10/10 Edit: I HAVE to make some Spanish subtitles for this. Can't wait for my dad to watch it.
it just old.... some like them since you can rev very high.. whch you can just get it from vtec... my 10 years old civic still had more power than that thing..
@@kellyfrear2133 lol lucky you. I'm going for my license registration and stuff on 7th September and I hope everything's done before the end of the month though
I really enjoy these videos because its putting out good and proper content. Not just clickbait and overhyped videos about nothing. So good. So earnest. Especially when New Media is people just talking about their opinion about things or reacting to things. Nice to get something original and with substance.
Would definitely be cool to see a galant vr4 or mirage review, in the DSM community in the USA turbo mirages and galant vr4's are pretty uncommon but very cool cars.
Honestly I would actually buy the 111. That car looks really good and its fine that it's FWD. I'm really surprised this car isn't more popular! No wonder I've never heard of this model (or the 101). I would totally buy that car as my first car if I had the chance. Seems really fun to drive and work on.
Restyle version AE111 awesome looking coupe. The main issue with the car is a superstrut suspension, it a little bit heavy for ae111 chassis, and it is complicated to find parts for maintaining and repair due to Toyota doesn't manufacture cars with superstrut.
The superstruts on my gt4 Celica st205 cost me and arm and a leg to replace. I’d love to import an ae111 but the risk to source parts not available are too great 🙁
Minus the Initial D / Drift tax on the AE86. I will def get the AE86 Liftback and Coupe to pay homage to Initial D. The AE111 will be a great track car if you do tons of upgrades to the 4A-GE 20V Blacktop. But given that the 4A-GE engine is really old now. Parts for the engine is getting a lot more expensive and it prob not worth the time and money to upgrade. the Toyota 3S-GE Beams engine swap will be the more modern engine swap for the AE86 and the AE111
Yea, the 3S-GE Beams is basically the equivalent of doing a K20 swap into a CRX or Civic coupe. It makes a little over 200hp at the crank and a nice amount of torque. A good swap if you really want your Corolla to be competitive, especially the 86 being how light it is.
Me neither, but it's like this. 5S is the 2.2 of the 3S for example. 5m is 2.8, 7m 3.0 And the have been in production next to each other so it's not a different generation
I remember seeing a TRD 280kph cluster for this and a video on RU-vid of it actually making it pass 250kph. Amazing machine. Gotta love those rimless doors.
the accent on this man is so gooood, i lived in japan as a kid becouse my dad is a japanese man. the english accsent on most people is so weird but this man is realy talented i love the videos. I LOVE IT
I might have one of the first AE111s in The States. I have completely fallen in love with this car. I live in a rural area and cutting those winding mountain roads in the thing is just incredible.
Oh, I'd love to see AE111 Corolla GT as well, that quite rare and I've seen one when I was in Japan. A friend of mine has the AE92 with 4AGE Blacktop swapped, it is really fun to drive especially the sound of high revving.
My uncle wanted to do a blacktop or a silvertop swap on his AE92... He never got around swapping it, for all its 5+ years of loyal service, the peppy little EFI 1.3 has given us many smiles on many a mountain pass. I felt a tinge of sadness and regret when he decided to sell it three years ago. I still do now, which inspires me to save up for one and finally do the swap...
The world needs to know about the Corolla GT Ae111 and Ae100. They seem not to be brought up, these cars are important to car history. Very reliable and fun cars to drive, with many upgrades in japan.
I still have my 1997 Corolla Levin that I purchased in 2004 and I'm going to do a 2jz swap, rear wheel conversion, sequential transmission to handle that big power with a wide body kit. I'll upload videos to my other channel when it's complete. Great to see that this massively underrated, legitimately the best handling front wheel drive car ever made, finally getting some attention. edit: The Toyota Corolla AE111 Sedan with the 4A-GE Black Top, that has the SS suspension is very highly known where I'm from. A lot of them are high performance NA cars running low 12's and high 11's on the 1/4 mile track. I'd love to see a review. The Sprinter GT 4-door sedan is also very popular. Great cars if you set them up properly.
I’m in progress swapping my engine into 4AGE 20v silvertop on my Daihatsu Charmant 1983. Hopefully the process will finish faster, can’t wait to drive a 4AGE engine. Greetings from Indonesia. 🤝
Ae111 bz-r but I want the one with the 6 speed. I love that car and its looks. I have to wait till the car turns 25 years old before importing it into the United states. I love the car.
TVIS changes the intake bore not the intake length. Each port is supplied by two runners. The butterfly valves is closed at lower RPM to improve intake velocity and improve intake swirl. At higher RPM the butterflies open to support higher flow requirements and intake tumble.
