Talking about determination, I have followed you since your "consulting" days and I have to say you also improve dramatically in video production overtime man.
I've been collecting vintage leathers for over 30 years and the attention to detail on that half belt is phenomenal. Although I'm a bit tired of all the "shinki", leather hysteria, the panels are beautifully matched and add to the overall look of quality from the Field. When having a custom garment made it is prudent to add one inch to the desired body length to compensate for layering or change in the bulk of the shoulder girdle.

I like the look of your jacket, but I would have made the length longer, several inches below the waist, to avoid the appearance of it riding up when you move your arms up. Other than that, enjoy your new excellent lifetime leather jacket.
$1300 for a bespoke Shinki horsehide jacket is a true bargain. I have an off the rack Flathead with the same specs - Shinki, tea core dyed horse - that was $200 more. Luckily, I'm Asian so the fit is spot on. I'll keep Greg in mind for my second leather jacket. Thanks!
Good looking jacket. Enjoy the process, I like that. Anyone can go to a store and pick up a jacket. A custom ordered fitted leather jacket. That’s a story you can pass to your grandkids someday 👍🏼

I was going to order one, but then some IG influencer (ahem, cough, cough) posted about Schott’s Shinki horsehide jacket. I bought that one and it immediately sold out right after. I don’t regret it as it’s a beautiful piece. I still want a Field Leathers and am eyeing the olive Baldassi...

Must have missed the Shinki Horsehide but my dream jacket is a 641HH, I'm pretty easy. Maybe someday I'll get that motorcycle I've always wanted too. 😂
Yeah that Schott Shinki jacket lasted I think 2 days and sold out. Very nice jacket. Maybe Schott took note of that and will do more collaborations in the future. BTW, Horween horsehide is an equal to Shinki in my opinion. Congrats on your purchase.
Interesting that I am not seeing anyone comment on or suggest Langlitz Leathers from Portland. I would choose it as the best. Most durable and timeless style. Amazing customer service and all custom made in their Portland shop. Also, their jackets run around $1500 and up.
Nail shank boots are the ultimate shank you can have. A lot of the top western boot makers only use nail shanks and these are boot makers who typically charge 3k+ for pair of calf skin boots.
Made me dig two old Vanson jackets out of the closet. One saved my hide twice, the other, well, that one left me cold when shunted from a Florida (business) trip to do outdoor aircraft work in NYC and Cleveland one nasty Christmas. Both still fit after twenty years. Sorta.
I have a Aero Buco jacket from Thurston bro. Thurston bro. advertise these jackets as custom made, but the degree of customization is extremely limited. I found a leather jacket maker in SFO, Johnson leathers, who made alterations for me. After I got the jacket to my liking, the total cost of the jacket came to a little over $1700. Aero Vicenza leather is phenomenal and the workmanship at Johnson leathers was incredible.
Wow super informative video. I've been thinking about leather jackets recently. Although this is a little out of my price range I appreciate all of the detail that went into this video. I will def be looking into Field Leathers.

Well, Poland is more of a central-european country but as a Czech myself and so from a slavic descent too, I really know your struggle. Everything is too narrow and tight at the shoulders and back, haha.
Hey Carl. I would love to see a pocket dump video like your edc video or another video that could help me in choosing a new knife. I've been a benchamade guy my whole life but want to start carrying a Leatherman. Will a multitool remove my need for a nice knife? Do you carry both? Sometimes I also carry a box cutter or left handed scissors. Would love to see you go into this topic.
To me it depends on your job or task. If I am doing light tasks I like to carry a leatherman and a knife. For heavier jobs I like a strong pair of pliers / wire cutters and a good strong knife. A separate knife is handy. If I am in an office I usually carry a small Swiss Army knife. I should add that some people feel you should carry the same items every day so you are used to them.
awesome video cal it is great to see nice business offer custom made leather jackets and best quality leathers these type of companies. I can support and buy from them and I agree with you I think custom-made is. the best option for most people because if you get off the rack sizes sometimes the sleeves maybe too short. or too long or sometimes jacket may be baggy and tight.by the way cal keep up the great work!
You should do a review on straight to hell jackets. They’re not expensive so i don’t expect them to be on the level of the high quality jackets. But, I’ve heard good things. May be a good place for someone who doesn’t quit have the resources for a Schott or other expensive brand to begin.
How is Aero leather and how does it stack up to Himel brothers and Real McCoy? They have a supplier in Canada and I did consider getting a jacket from them at one point.
Aero I wouldn’t recommend there okay but they screw up on the leather panels or the sleeves and there shearing jackets look plasticy. Trust me get an Eastman leather they are nice all will last you for a long time
I just looked at his website. He has some really nice, classic designs. Currently, it looks like he has two color options (black or blue). I will check back for other colors. One of his jackets is pictured in olive leather, which looks great. Either that or a reddish brown or oxblood type color might make me pull the trigger!
@@jordanaethelric2614 He didn't have that when I asked. If recall correctly, he only had one other leather available, which was black teacore. He may have gotten other leathers since then, though.

I'm looking at the website now. What exactly is the difference between Black Pigment Shinki and Black Full Aniline Shinky? And is "Pigment" the one you bought that is tea-core? Love your channel and your jacket. That extra space in the hem looks perfect for that extra layer and secures a perfect fit when one's size grows.

Carl’s Wife- Oh my god! how much is this going to cost😂 Carl- it’s only $2500 and it will last forever. If you break it down by wear, it will only cost $1.19 per wear by the time our grand kids get to wear it. So basically it’s free😁
Carl, how much did that Carhartt shirt cost you like $30? Also, I bet it’s imported. Allow me to introduce you to Bayside Apparel. Made in USA company that makes that shirt for half the price and many high quality cotton goods for a bargain price. They’re sold on Amazon.
@@CarlMurawski Sweet! My favorite workshirts from them are their 8100 long-sleeve pocket tees. They’re all I need for southern Californian winters, and they’re breathable enough to wear in southern Californian summers.
I'm a huge fan of Goodwear USA. Not aware of Bayside Apparel. Do they do tubular knit? Also, Carhartt doesn't make anything in the USA that I know of. 🤷🏻♂️

killer looking jacket! Locharron wool is top notch too. i have a couple ties from them and a hat. Also, being from Idaho, i love that he has a model called "the Idaho" lol
It’s hard to put into words, but there is a certain “feel” to it. Plus it’s very much a throwback to the way leather jackets used to be. That’s not to say one is better than the other beyond those qualities, it’s really just a particular vibe.
They don’t offer horse hide but the best company out there in my opinion that makes leather jackets to your measurements is Soul Revolver, and they come in under $500.
Eh, I disagree. I've seen some really wonky stitching on Aero jackets. My buddy Tucker has one where the collar point stitching doesnt match up at all. I point it out to him every time I see it.

I still think buying from a company like Aero is more economical. Aero isn’t a big company, it’s a single factory where a single crafts person creates each jacket from start to finish, fully customisable and to your exact measurements. As much as I like the look of the jackets he’s making and i wish him the best of luck with his business, I’d still choose an Aero for cheaper but equal quality
Aero seems pretty solid but I saw and Aero jacket made by Greg during his time there and what hes doing in his own shop and the difference is clear. His quality has improved tremendously, while not working to hit the volume that comes with working for a company.
I would like to see a review of Independence brothers. I know that they are more geared towards fashion, but I would love to hear your input on the quality and if they make good jackets to your measurements.
Nice video dude! I have no idea how that guy calculate material expenses, labour and profit - $1200! I make custom leather jackets myself but having only two hands I can’t allowed such underestimation (I go anywhere between $2200 and $3800) Oh, that’s because I’m 52 and the end is much closer to me 😂 And I’m an east European working in California, which puts me in a position to be either unique in design and execution or... McDonald’s would calling me. Keep going Carl 🤙🏻

Nice but personally these newer brands are just a bit much for me and not just the price. I'm stoked with Schott and Vanson and Wesco boots, Quoddy shoes. That's just me. I don't need more than a couple of leathers and boots in rotation either I'm not a fashion guy on instagram. How can you break in dozens of jackets and boots! Anyway, cool video and I like what he's doing. Aero certainly has a great reputation but I'd go with Lewis Leathers. Just my silly opinions based on research. Maybe it's just that I think the more fashion type stuff is fussy, complicated and looks a bit soft. Schott is guilty of some of this too though but they still offer horsehide and many classic jackets without the glitz. 🤷🏻♂️

Thank you! That was a small batch of reddish brown Shinki horsehide that Dave wanted to use. It may still be available, or a stock option now, but at the time it was brand new.
I’ve been searching for a leather jacket, considering vintage, ordering from the US etc. Now, after watching this video, i have learned that i can have an artisan custom make me a jacket, and he is based just a 20 minute drive from where i live.
