Never put the acrylic paint on too thick or in time it will crack and chip away. It’s best to use multiple thin layers of paint, then seal it with a matte or gloss varnish.
yes.... I have painted my vallet 10 years ago, still as new!!! but first I sandpaper the surface with 250 sandpaper, thin layers and only one thin protecion of superglue.....:-)

Very durable, it will not chip or crack. Just make sure to prep the jacket with acetone or our Leather Preparer and Deglazer before applying the paint. For the paint to last the life of the jacket, It is very important to remove the factory finisher and then apply light, even layers of Angelus Paint. I painted my leather jacket a couple months ago with acrylic paint. 3 layers of paint, 2 layers of varnish, there are some parts of the paint that have cracked and chipped off. I was reading through the comments, and what I decided to do was take fine grit sandpaper, go over the chipped areas, and then re apply paint with very thin layers. Any other suggestions?
It is all about preparation, thin coats and dry times. Make sure each coat is completely dry before applying the next. You will also want to sand any areas that will experience more creasing than others.
Yeah, you must have used regular acrylic paint. You gotta go with Angelus or with Lumiere by Jacquard. Make sure you use a hair dryer and set it til it reaches 175 degrees. Good luck.
Love this design! Would you recommend against blending the colors? I have a design in mind that would require me to mix a few different shades of one color, but I noticed that he only used the colors straight out of the bottle in the video.
If we are understanding your question correctly, you mean the painted outlines we used with our paint markers. If that is what you are referring to. He simply painted over those white lines when he established the design. In case you mess up though, you can simply use our leather preparer & deglazer or some acetone to remove any unwanted paint when working on leather.

Im looking forward to painting my leather jacket . I’ve never painted one before . I was wondering what if I make a mistake with the paint marker? Is there something else I can use to draw the design and be able to alter or erase it without ruining the jacket? I fear the paint marker is final and permanent
Besides pen or pencil the paint is a safe choice because it may be the easiest to remove. If the paint is wet then it's as spimple as rubbing it off with a little water and if it has dried then you should be able to remove it with acetone or leather preparer and deglazer. Experiment, test things out on just go for it.

Great video, thank you for posting. Question does Angelus offer a product that REMOVES paint if you mess up and need to start again (or do you have a suggestion for that?) I tried wiping quickly with water but some residue and color was left behind.
If it is leather, let it dry completely, then use leather preparer and deglazer to get most of it off. After that go back to painting.(may have to lay down white first after deglazed)! Good luck
In this case I am painting on camo print so I need all of it to come off, cannot paint white then re-paint. Seriously they should consider developing something that removes their paint.
Yes, if it has that smooth finish then it should be deglazed. All the oils and finishes must be removed from the leather first for the paint to properly adhere to the leather.
I impulsively decided to paint a fake leather jacket so i sketched using a purple tondaus surgical skin marker for no reason. Its a water based marker and no matter how many layers i paint, the marker keeps bleeding through and im getting frustrayed that i didn't do my research. Is there a way to fix this?

Our paint will handle weather no problem. If you are extra worried about it we would say to spray it down with water and stain repellent every few months.

Hey man. That coat paint job is sick. Recently I’ve been looking how to distress a leather coat and found some cool ways using acetone, sandpaper, wire brush, one guy used dirt and dragged the coat in gravelly rocks in a parking lot. I wanna so all that but I think I wanna literally throw in some paint. Any tips. I wanna apply the paint in a Jackson Pallok-esque way. And I’m assuming the paint should go on last..any tips or instructions you could give me?
Sounds pretty cool. Jackson Pollock is a very unique artist. I guess applying the paint would depend on what part of the sneaker you are planning to paint. If you plan to paint the distress leather or the leather itself then you can most likely paint once all those steps are done. However, prepping with the sandpaper can cause some of the material to become suede/nubuck so once paints applied it can change the texture. What you will have to do is test and experiment with it on your end. Only way to see what works best for you.
I'm having some trouble with some of my customs I've done and I'm hoping for some help or feedback. I did a pair of air Jordan 1s and I used prep and deglaze put on the coats and put on matte finish but it spiderwebbed with the leather creasing
Sorry to hear that. While using the Leather Prep, try bending and creasing those areas to get into the small cracks and crevices. You may have to spend a little extra time on areas that bend and crease to make sure all of the protective coat has been removed. Ultimately, the prep is the most important step to a custom. Going over with the Deglazer a couple of time and making sure to get in tight areas and creases is what make the difference.

Yes when preparing the leather the factory finish will be removed and will give the leather a dull look. This means the protective coat is off and it should be safe to paint.
Maybe try washing the piece by hand or avoiding the dryer if possible. Most importantly make sure to mix 2-Soft into the paint when painting on fabric materials. The paint should be durable and keep nice and soft once heat set.

Yes you can, but be careful when prepping the fake leather. As the leather preparer & deglazer or acetone to prep the leather can be too strong for faux leather.

Bro depends on the color your trying to paint for example if the original color is black and you want to paint it red it won't pop out so you make it white so you can paint any color then. But don't always paint it white depends on how dark the color is .
Rick used 2-Thin to thin out the paints when using the Paint Markers. Just the paint alone is too thick for the paint markers to work properly. 2-Hard is only used when painting on plastic or other non porous surfaces.
Hello, I would like to start designing my own jackets, I already did 3 and I couldnt wash the color off the jacket, at the 4th one the color went off so easily I could sratch it with fingers. Could you recommend me what type of leather (doesnt matter if genuine or syntetyc) is the best for leather painting so the color will stay “forever”? Thank you very much
Where you able to prep the leather before applying the paint? When prepping the area, we suggest using our Angelus Deglazer or Acetone to remove the factory paint/finish. Nail polish remover that contains acetone is fine to use. It really depends on the project. The harder the leather, you can use acetone. If it's soft, you can use the leather preparer which is less harsh.
