My two son's put their money together and bought me a Timex Expedition which looks similar to the Hamilton Khaki and presented to me on Father's day- that watch is now worth more too me than all my other watches. They wanted to get me the Hamiliton version but they didn't have quite the money for it. For me, it is a priceless gift from both of my sons and is my everyday wear from this point on.

@@haimo14228 the watch is a keeper and a daily wear- I just had a bit of issue with the strap- the spring bar holes on the lugs are set in close to the case which makes the strap either to loose or too tight. Finding the right strap was a big challenge- I ended up using an adjustable velcro Nato strap.

I just got mine and been wearing it for past few days. Learning how to wind Mechanical watch for the first time. It’s an awesome watch and good looking. I am deaf and cannot hear it ticking so it’s no problem for me. Although I do wish I could hear it.

Bought mine two months ago. Love the watch - disappointed in the plastic-feeling strap. Solved that by getting a nice canvas khaki-green NATO. Perfect.

I love the styling, I've rocked a timex expedition as my field watch of choice which is a very similar design (went through AIT, several fields and a deployment with it). This will definitely be a watch I have to pickup for a daily wearer, especially with an 80hr power reserve it'd be perfect for a regular work week.

@@ImportantComment 50m water resistance indicates that you actually shouldnt really swim with it.. but many comments here state that they did swim with it and it is still going well.. so i would say it is own risk..

I owned Speedmasters Tudor watches Bell Ross ect. On a whim I picked up A 38 mm Khaki on steel band . light comfortable easy to read without glasses lol. Great watch has not been off my wrist wind it every few days good to go. Learned a lesson in life the amount money spent on a watch does not equal satisfaction or enjoyment

Placing an order next month and can't wait. How have you found the reaction from friends and family? It's hard to explain to non watch people why a not so flashy Gucci or Armani is so pricey haha

I took a chance on this watch even after seeing many reviews indicating poor quality with watches breaking when turning crown snapping main spring. But I have mine for a year now wearing it nearly every day love it and no issues so far . It kept excellent time for about 8 months (-2/-6) then was all over the place and now seems to have settled at -8 ... I lose about a minute a week on this watch which is good for my standards . Over I would still consider getting this watch a hit and miss proposition from what I have seen on reviews but the overall size dimensions and look pushed me to get it and I am glad I did.

I’ve recently noticed that if the watch is left resting unused and unwound for a couple of weeks, the timekeeping can sometimes be different when I start using it again. For example a 2801-2 movement I have was a steady -1-2 sec per day for several months. After a break it is now on +2.

@@vitaboost Yes that’s right. In my case, all other things being equal (ie. resting position) the timekeeping accuracy can change after a period of non-use.

I bought one when I was stationed at Camp Pendleton in 1980. The crystal is cracked, the luminescence died yesrs ago, and it has had many bands since new. However, it works and is still worn. Just because it is cracked, I got a modern battery powered Timex that tries to look like the Hamilton. I paid about $50 or so for the Timex. The Hamilton new was $35 if I recall. The lesson learned? I love mechanical watches because they work. Batteries die when needed most. Also, a $500 watch? Not for this old Marine. Inflation and off shoring our jobs by crooked politicians destroyed manufacturing. No more cheap mechanical watches. Hell, I remember my Dad buying me a $4 pocket watch when I was 7. It was crap by today's standard, but I still have it and it works. Great video. Enjoyed the level of detail. Thanks.

Great video Teddy of an Icon. This was my first real watch, first Swiss Made watch and my first of what has become my interest in watches and that is manual wound. Call me old fashion but I actually look forward to winding my watch every day and the Hamilton has IMHO the best crown for hand winding on the market. I prefer the first gen with the ETA 2801-2 because I prefer a high beat. I only wish that it was a 36mm with a 45mm lug to lug because the current 38mm X47mm just wears big to me and I have a 7 inch wrist. Thanks again, Brian.

Check out the Smiths PRS29. I have this Hamilton as well, but the Smiths outperforms it in most categories (including better water resistance) for only $50 more.

The lug to lug kills it for me. If you install a 2 piece band it leaves large gaps between the band / watch. This watch works well with a bracelet / NATO imo.

I’m really intrigued on the Khaki field models, but can’t really decide what model i want. I really like the classic design on the mechanical, which is very true to the originals, but i can’t help but feel that the Automatic is superior and it’s in almost the same price-range too. The lugs on the mechanical seems like a bit of trouble when switching straps. Great video, as always!

Hand wound is a better choice for a rough active watch, less wear and tear from a rotor spinning around unnecessarily. Did you make a choice in the end?

@@dustycups I haven't bought one, no. I bought a Seiko a few months ago but i'm still considering the Hamilton. I also watched a video where you could see the lugs are quite large on it, and i have small wrists myself. I'm going to see if i can find it in a store so i can see it in person before i decide.

@@evangelosstamatakis2559 No rotor means fewer moving parts, so yes there will be less wear, less metal dust generated in the movement and fewer things to break. However perhaps adjust your expectations with a mechanical/automatic watch... none of them are actually tough, no matter what the marketing says. If you drop it it will probably break something. I've noticed a lot of reviewers go on about how the original Hamilton's were tough military watches. They were actually very much built to a price point, simple, and somewhat disposable, rather than made tough to survive everything. They moved to quartz as soon as they could. I wouldn't worry too much about the 5ATM water resistance. It will be perfectly fine for everyday life, splashing around and the the odd immersion. If you're going swimming it's best to take it off.

I have to say I enjoyed them more, and gave them more credibility, before Teddy started selling what he's reviewing. I still admire the high production values, but now it just seems like any other slick watch ad, because that's what it really is. Pity Teddy couldn't find a different way to monetize his internet presence, since he's a sharp writer and excellent presenter, and before he was a salesman, he raised the standard of online RU-vid content creators. I do wish him every success, but I don't pounce on his review videos like I did before.

I don’t think it suits a bracelet at all. Also I don’t like the bracelet, how the centre links are divided. It’s the same as the automatic version but I think it’ll have a brushed or blasted finish.

Loving mine . Im not so sure about the 80 hour power reserve. Its only stoped once I've had it about a month. To me its simplicity is elegant and the hand wind function adds to the relationship between man and tool.

Is there a benefit to the H50 caliber over the ETA? I really am trying to get my hands on one of these and the ETA is definitely a little harder to find. I really like how the ETA beats at 28,800 bph, but I also have heard the H50 is a more updated movement technology. Trying to figure out what to go with.

more power reserve on H50 because of lower beat. second hand looks smother on eta with 4hz / 3hz. mine H50 currently running +2.5s/d. if it can hold this for a longer time, then the H50 is pretty accurate

Hamilton makes the more dressier automatic with a 100m water resistance but the more rugged looking mechanical has only a 50m water resistance. Should be the other way around, I feel. Just my opinion.

Unless you plan on swimming it's fine. People over think the entire water resistance.

Anyone had issues with this watch? I’ve seen lots of reviews of a problem with the mainspring and ratchet wheel with the H-50 movement.

Recently got this with the newer, less-busy dial (smaller 24-hr numerals) and it really is a wonderful, all-purpose daily watch. The dark olive-green dial and a military green canvas strap perfectly suit the no-bling, utilitarian design. The only downside for me is the lack of AR on the crystal, which is somewhat offset by the domed shape (reflected sun, for example, is just a bright spot, and doesn't obsure the dial as it would with a flat crystal.)
