I love the blue Miata. My buddy has been getting me into the racing/driving scene and I definitely want to find one of those blue beauties for my first car to mod! Awesome video
Good video Sal. I did the same to my 91. I'm pretty sure the flat washer goes under the split washer. The split washer has to contact underside of bolthead, to have locking effect. Theoretically, your bolt could still back out, because it's contacting a flat surface. Instead of edge of split washer. But vid was great.
I'm still trying to convince the Mrs, after 25 yr, that we need his/hers miata/mx-5. she's not bit yet, but I'm still working on it. oh gosh, putting that gear oil in the top of the transmission/shifter hole while in a closed car must have reaked. it's bad enough when gear oil comes out of a diff in a well ventilated area, but in an enclosed space....no thank you.
Dude this is great simple stuff. Too often has the standard RU-vid stuff been to immediately turbo the thing and replace the entire suspension and arms. Keep it simple make it feel nice to drive before making it fast. Thats what its about.
I have the stock shifter in my car and it is tight as a drum with 145k miles on the odo. Surprised you had trouble with/didn't care for yours. Good tutorial regardless.
I bought that shifter and used it for about 2k miles and my transmission got stuck in reverse not a hard fix but annoying and can be stopped by investing in a better shifter! Just a heads up.
I know this was a very long time ago but do you by chance still have the links for all the things you used for this video? I want to do the same thing with my na Miata
i know this video is old, but i’m about to replace the clutch in mine because it’s going out, what kit do you recommend ? i don’t see too many videos or people talking about a decent clutch kit.

No idea,if someone already mentioned it, but the installation is wrong.. it should be the big shim first followed by the original tabless spring and lower plastic bush he fished out after the original shifter. Then the new shifter' THEN the new top plastic bush followed by the spring. (Can be seen on the old shifter as the order stays). THEN on top you do the metal retainer plate+bolts OR might consider using an inner rubber original instead for sealing. The way its done in the video its clear its bouncing up and down the 3mm and they are missing gears already because of the wiggle and lack of leverage... also.. the splashing.......
@@hoops8996 no worries and thank you! It was an oooooold video so sorry about that video quality I’m too nervous to go look at it to see how that video did 😂
The only thing I'm going to say as I'm glad I have a silver miata as the base to get the car resprayed. That red door sill on the blue body looks pretty goofy.
Klodinke Diloni I can officially say I’m 300x better than 3 weeks ago. I just recently went back to college and drove my Miata 10 hours to school thru Atlanta and Nashville traffic. I’m not a pro but I can say I know how to drive manual.
