What’s the best microphone placement for voice over?
We might have been taught the "Proper Mic placement" (or mic technique, mic position... Whatever you want to call it.). But have we really been doing it right?

Excellent video, this helped me make the final adjustments on my microphone placement when I wasn't so sure, and as someone who's insanely indecisive, this was a lifesaver! I also loved the 'you're supposed to sound like you're in someone's head' analogy, thanks dude.

Great video. But it makes me wonder cause my at2020 behaves bit differently. Your voice still sounds clear when you are that close but with my at2020 when I am already around 5 inches from the capsule my voice is not that clear but gets saturated in the mids like on some vintage tube mick (especially on sibilants) and although some may say that its cool effect I say Im not happy cause I prefer to be clear so I can use the proximity effect and record closer when I want without that saturation effect. I wonder am I in a possession of a faulty mick?

Very helpful, thank you! Is there a distance the mic should be from say a tv? I use a playstation console and tv, for now I edit and voiceover on the playstation which is why im asking. Could my tv be causing an echo or bad sound kind of thing?
@DaveSoltura
@DaveSoltura 8 месяцев назад
If the speakers of the tv are loud enough, it could be bleeding into your mic. Distance will help! It also helps if the least sensitive side of the mic is facing the tv.

Okay. This is interesting… but what about a mic like a Shure SM7dB style mic? Would the same rules apply?

Absolutely!

@@DaveSoltura Thank you. I was just curious if I was doing it correctly and because the style of mic is built differently.

I have it under my face and to the side. Why? Because I use it for work zoom calls and I don't want to look like a podcaster, so it's there just out of frame.
