@Carcamcentral is it possible to do a review on the Vantrue pro memory card it a popular dash camera company who has one of the best dash cameras for the money im using the Vantrue N4 PRO Dash camera but wondering if there 256 memory card is worth buying obviously they highly recommend it being used with there dash cameras, but its a 49$ memory card but I'm wondering if its better than the others considering its made for a dash camera specifically or will I be fine and save by just buying the Samsung high endurance. Thanks for this video. I am surprised to find out that major brands (Samsung, Sandisk, etc) sell 128gb U1 Endurance level microSD card less than $40, while many DashCam manufacturers are selling their own memory cards for more than $100. Dashcam manufacturers might be getting a lot of profit from selling microSD cards at a higher margin, just like how Inkjet printer manufacturers are selling the printer at a discounted price but their inks at a higher price. Your video is the de facto standard video that I would like to recommend to others who are looking forward to upgrading their dashcam memory capacity.

Thank you for this, I really enjoyed the tech explanation too. Frankly I find the huge spread of names that all sound so impressive very frustrating I bought a sandisk ultra car and it only lasted 3 months. I just picked up a couple of the sandisk SanDisk 256GB High Endurance for $34 each, compared to the SAMSUNG PRO Endurance 256GB which were $42 each, though they did come with SD adapters which I don't need. I am a truck driver and drive at least 8 hours a day, The dash cam has come in so much handy, and one day could save my CDL if I get into an accident. I have been using a dashcam since I started driving like 9 years ago. I feel like part of the reason I've been accident free. Other than my defensive driving classes I took when I got my license. I think a non negligible amount of it is due to the fact that if I do something stupid, I am going to look like a dummy when I put it on youtube.

Professional driver here. Still using a Transcend Endurance 32GB card that's been used everyday for the past 2+ years, 9 hours a day on average. Upgraded my dash cam recently to the Viofo A129 Duo IR and I'm still getting 2 hours of recording loop on it! Great work! I really enjoy your videos. The animations are top notch here as well. My vote also goes to the Samsung Pro Endurance cards. I've been switching out to them for all my dashcams, GoPros, and security cameras. Shoutout to the Samsung Evo Selects for a more affordable option and a >128gb option, but I'm glad to hear about the new SanDisk options for Endurance cards at 256gb!

I started of with SanDisk, until I had a brand new one fail (wasn’t from my regular supplier). Then I found Adata, which although a bit cheaper, never gave any problems. Never tried Samsung cards, haven’t seen them locally but if I do I’ll sure give them a try! Great video! Glad to have you back Andrew!

The Samsung Pro Endurance spec sheet states that its a MLC product. However, its Samsung marketing team's strategy trying to make their product better. THe Samsung Pro Endurance uses, in fact, TLC (which technically is still a MLC, just like saying a square is a type of rectangle). many of Samsung's product such as the 970 evo/plus spec sheet states it uses MLC, but has been proven to be TLC. Hopefully this comment will be noticed so you wont be bashed on by other people because of MLC/TLC confusion.

Edit: See below, Samsung has previously labeled their products as "3-bit MLC" which doesn't exist but can warp consumer comparisons. Samsung has not stated if the pro endurance is "2-bit MLC (real) or "3-bit MLC (fake, actually TLC). How confusing and disingenuous. Prior Response: Can you link me on where Samsung says the Pro Endurance is a TLC product? That analogy of saying TLC is MLC is wrong, it doesn't make any sense. I'm not getting bashed on by any people at all. I've done some really intense research to make the video. I appreciate the feedback though. Please let me know if I am wrong. -Andrew

Thanks for the link. I saw that thread too but the thread was never posted. I trust Samsung's release a lot more versus some random rep (unless it's a staff member that I can take more seriously) news.samsung.com/global/video-5-years-vs-3-months-samsungs-new-pro-endurance-memory-cards where it states it's made from 64-layer 256GB MLC NAND. Also I just your comment about evo/plus having MLC specs. I haven't read that anywhere. In fact besides the higher capacity (256GB+) cards they don't even talk about its NAND construction at all. -Andrew

The problem is that Samsung defines MLC differently from others. Many of their storage product such as the 860 evo or 970 evo, they tend to use the term 3-bit MLC (which is just TLC NAND). The article from Samsung Newroom can actaully be "3-bit" MLC NAND

I have about a total of 20 sd cards and the majority are Samsung evo cards ranging from 32gb to 128gb. I have one sandisk a1 400gb card that I use in my sg9663dc. I purchased a 64gb Samsung high endurance card that caused severe issues with my sg9663dc, viofo a129 duo and dr750s. My 5 year old 32gb Samsung evo card that I use for firmware updates is still working perfectly. I’m now only using Samsung evo cards in my q800pro, blackvue dr750s 2ch, viofo a129 duo and viofo a119. The only exception is the sandisk a1 400gb card that I use in my sg9663dc. I still don’t see a need for an endurance card since the very first Samsung endurance card I purchased was faulty.

I think it's a matter of probabilities, temperature (high heat takes a big toll on microSD cards), manufacturing quality, actual use per day that factors into how long your card ends up lasting. I'm also recommending cards to tens of thousands of people which will make a statistical difference over time compared to individual experiences. The newer EVO cards are also made from 3D TLC NAND which helps their stability. Still aside from all those variables, from what I understand of microSD card writing that optimizing firmware so the card can write to a completely filled card is very beneficial for integrity. To each their own though, I understand your perspective. -Andrew

Lexar High Performance 633x (A1, UHS-I, V30 Made-in-Taiwan) works perfectly with Thinkware F800PRO where Sandisk Extreme failed with multiply self-restarting between recording of continuous drive and parking modes by dashcam. Sandisk High Endurance (UHS-I V30 64GB) recording works but experienced occasional self-restarting of driving mode from parking state.

128GB should be enough unless you have space saving features disabled. There are 256GB cards but the compatibility hasn't been confirmed yet. -Andrew

First I want to say that I admire you for testing cameras that you purchase and you are providing honest reveiws. Now my actual question. After my last car accident I finally got myself a dual dash camera system. I chose it from someone elses top 10 video. My choice was Falcon Eye Prime 2. Almost from the start the system was malfunctioning and I didn't notice it. It wasn't due to the memory card and the main camera was replaced because I got the extended warranty. The replacement worked ok for a short time, but because I monitored it closer I caught it not recording when it should have been. It was set for 3 minute clips. There would be many 3 minute clips back to back and then there would be many just over one minute clips with gaps as much as 43 seconds. Then it would record flawless 3 minute clips and then bach to just over a minute. I'm told its the memory card. They really don't want to send me another camera. They are sending me a free memory card to try. How long should a memory card last before it should be replaced? Is there a better dual system that cost no more than 200 dollars that you recommend? Hey RB, glad I could help. Memory card lifespan is tricky, it's more like an average so its tough to say when it'll fail. Overall a cheaper non-endurance card will fail much faster and it could be in a matter of days to months depending on its construction, temperature ,etc. I'm a fan of the Viofo A129 for most people. I've promoted Viofo quite a bit but I haven't seen another system that provides all the benefits and features of Viofo. As an alternative Rexing's V1P 3rd generation in the United States is similar with better customer service system. -Andrew

After watching the 2016 video recommendation, I bought two Transcend High Endurance cards last year. While the 16GB doesn't seem to have any issues, the 64GB one stopped reading when I was in the middle of transferring video files about two months after I started using is (on a dual channel VIOFO A129); I lost all the footage that hadn't been transferred and reformatted the card. About a week later, a similar error seems to have happened while the SD card was being used on the dashcam, so it didn't record any footage. I've ditched the 64GB card and I'm reluctant to keep on using the 16GB one. I'm shopping for new SD cards, so I'll take a look at the Samsung PRO Endurance ones.

Unfortunately, as with other brands, Transcend's warranty is void if we use their cards with a dashcam. «Transcend's consumer memory cards are not for use with write-intensive applications, including but not limited to: recursive / in-car recording devices» :-(

No offense but some research has to go into the branding of cards as "long life". Personally i believe they're all the same and its just marketing BS to get us to fork out more cash for the same entry level card. Its not like you can open them up to see the quality.

You're correct lobster, it could be from the same die but I do believe they optimize in a number of ways after reading a number of white papers published by the manufacturers themselves. Ex Sandisk: documents.westerndigital.com/content/dam/doc-library/en_us/assets/public/western-digital/collateral/white-paper/white-paper-sandisk-flash101-management.pdf For one, the cards have different firmware. The Pro Endurance's are rated at a slower U1 speed even though they perform very close to the U3 speeds of the faster EVO Plus. Most manufacturer's will bin cards that have better performance or QC and those get directed to high endurance cards. The next one is the warranty is partly what you are paying for as well. Non-endurance cards get you nothing. Again, we can't pry open the cards to see the controller or more importantly understand their firmware. If people don't see the value of Endurance cards there's always the regular models that have been used by a lot of dash cam users.

Just wanted to say that at 6:02 screen shot there is a recommendation for Transcend 400x, I have one of those in 128gb that I ran without issue in a daily driver (one channel 1080p Street Guardian) for 3.5 years. Got several years no problems from Samsgun plus and select, both, also. Guess I'm lucky but I have many 2-3 years-of-use cards and didn't buy an endurance card for the first time till last week

Just started buying the samsung endurance cards. I've had 3 transcend cards fail on me recently, they were all pretty old tho so not unexpected. I am gonna put these cards in all my family member's cars because I know they never check their dash cams so its nice to have a little more assurance that the cards will last a decent amount of time. thanks for the video.

Been trying to up my production a bit, but since i started this as a hobby and no video editing experience its a learning experience. Hey Jon =) Production values takes a big investment in time. I used Lynda to learn Premiere which helped out a lot. Recently I spent a big chunk of time learning Illustrator and After Effects. Besides visual improvements I'm faster now in editing because of some of the shortcuts. I will definitely watch the video and give you a comment. Keep up the good work yourself! -Andrew

According to there website there 256GB pro endurance is 140,160 hours of 1080p 3.25MB/s recording (which is 16 years) with each lower version 1/2 that so 32GB is 2 years worth .

I bought a sandisk max endurance 256gb micro sd card. I tested the speeds with crystaldiskmark. Here is what I got. All 5 1Gib READ MB/s WRITE MB/s SEQ1M 92.70 62.71 Q8T1 SEQ1M 91.65 61.86 Q1T1 RND4K 10.01 3.19 Q32T1 RND4K 9.67 2.93 Q1T1

Viofo a129pro has to have Fat32 format and this card is exfat. Not compatible.

The bottom line is High endurance cards are perfectly designed for dash cams and it will serve you for many years despite the high price tag.

Hi, great video! Finally a good video explaining what are “high endurance” cards made like! I’d like to ask you if these types of Sd cards are ok if using like a Plex Server. I am not going to make a server out of it, of course (lol), but use as a media manager on Kodi. I’ll need to write many files and obviously read them. What do you think? Is it going to last more?

Great video! Very informative! Although I knew that micro sd cards fail with time, didn't realise that these endurance ones exist with MLC cells. Unfortunately, the 128GB Samsung Endurance costs 50 euros in my country at the moment... I 'm gonna go with the 128GB Samsung Evo Plus at 17 euros since even if it's starts acting up in a year or two, I can just buy another one and still I will have paid less.
