Best review of the Tuareg on RU-vid, couldn't stress more how i appreciate your insight and thoughts on the bike. Im really considering buying one hopefully this spring but im torn between this and triumph 900RP since i plan on doing around 80-20 on-off (light gravel etc)long tours with a pillion(maybe 2 per year max), but also want it for every day bike. Thanks again , cant wait for your new adventures and your real word reviews!

Thank you for informative and very throughout review! You Aussies really have the best motorcycle yt content. What I would liked even more, would be talking and commenting when riding and this shit happens. :) Also seeing you change suspension and all those nitpicks when you noticed it (like that awful center-stand, handguard-accident etc.). To me, those are the bits, which really differentiate your reviews from others and are really interesting to see. I Don't mind for longer videos at all! Btw. Say your brother a big thanks for finding and helping you out of that mud pit. My bro would have never come to help me, possible answer would have been something like: hah, I will tell mom in the morning if she asks... Great review brother I tested this bike but only on road it's handled so well I couldn't believe as I have rode alot of different bikes up and down my favourite pass near Wollongong and I've never been up it quicker no doubt it would have it's short coming on long byways but could be over come,only thing is ,will the engine have a good longtivity as Aprillias are quite highly strung.

Always the question with Italian bikes. It isn't as highly strung as the rs660 though and that's the same motor. I've always had good luck with Aprilias but I can see your apprehension

Great wrap up Curtis.👍 It’s amazing how well the bike held up with the crashes and getting stuck in the mud. That should sell hundreds or thousands of these bikes in itself. I love the blue & white color, I’m just personally tired of black… I own far too many black vehicles and bikes. lol I’m not a fan of the multi-color sides in the front. Aprilia needs to put their Giant A or the Lion Head there in blue with a white or blue high fender and it would be awesome… I think. I’m still debating whether to put the high fender on my 890 S or not, with all the road miles I ride. I put rear pannier racks on my ADV bikes whether I run hard panniers or not. It’s protection and great places to grab the bike to lift or to strap gear like you mentioned. Wonderful bike and great demonstrations of the 660’s capabilities Curtis. 🙏
@onthebackwheel
@onthebackwheel Год назад
That's a good reason to get them for sure. I like the fluro and red used on the black versions, but totally get being sick of black. On the high fender, I'd leave it unless you are really bored 🤣

Very good review. I'm a new rider and have just bought one. However, apologies in advance if the answer to my question is obvious. If you don't advise getting a centre stand, how do you fix a puncture out on the road without being able to elevate the wheel or clean the chain without being able to spin the back wheel?
@onthebackwheel

All good mate. I personally use motorcycle paddock stands at home. On the trail I use a stick or you can use a dedicated prop stand. People commonly use a cut down crutch and prop it with that. Have a look at my flat tyre vid and my bike recovery one to get an idea. Enjoy the bike mate, fantastic machine!

@onthebackwheel Год назад
Gday mate. Two great options there. The Tuareg is definitely lighter, but may not be as big a change as you're looking for. The 701 will be a lot lighter, just be wary that it is going to be nowhere near as good on the road. She's definitely suited to mostly dirt riding and shorter black top stints. Try a Tuareg first though, it's 20+kg lighter than the 900 so it might be alright

I guess I don't understand your reasoning here. Were you not able to get the 800 for a demo and had to purchase it to do an honest review? I like the 800 and it looks awesome, but you had such high praise of the 660 I wonder why you would spend hard earned $ on a bike you "Might" enjoy? To be perfectly honest I probably would've went for the 800 too had it come with CC. The weight was a concern for me but that engine off-sets the weight penalty IMO. Anyway good luck with the Suzuki. @@onthebackwheel Nah, I think that is the only demo in Auckland, so not much chance of another test. In regards to the brakes, you could be right, although there was plenty of pressure and no sponginess once they started to actuate... There was Lots of lever travel though (about an inch or so at the end of the lever) before anything happened, tons of pulsing through the lever with any hard braking. They worked good in gravel in the off-road mode. The dealer took it around the block and couldn't get the ABS to kick in... so!!?? At the end of the day, I think the Tuareg isn't for me. I like the riding experience you get being connected to the chassis, brakes and engine - For me there was zero connection to the engine or back wheel, and no braking feel, so I think it is out. Maybe when I'm 60+ and need the extra help, although a CRF300 Rally might be a better bet by then. Cheers for your thoughts and the great work on your channel.
