Ever wondered how you can squeeze more power out of your 3.0 Duramax LM2? You've come to the right place. In today's video, Jake explores the best performance upgrades that can take your diesel engine to new heights. Join us as Jake discusses everything from cold air intakes and turbochargers to exhaust systems and performance tuning. We'll walk you through each upgrade, explaining how they can boost horsepower, increase torque, and enhance overall engine efficiency. Whether you're a seasoned mechanic or just starting your diesel-modifying journey, this guide is tailored for you.
Since this is a rather new engine, we will come back in 6 months or so to redo these picks as more aftermarket support comes along.
We've just released a new article about LM2 Performance upgrades: chevytrucks.org/lm2-duramax-p...

Great video, i like how you gently tiptoe around the resonator and intercooler piping kits. I call these "bro parts" just because they look cool but don't really do anything. The pipe is not a larger diameter, so its not going to flow more...simple as that, but if you like it good on you. Engines are air pumps, you make more power you need to get it in and out, which you hit perfectly...increase HP will require and increase in air coming in and that equals in increase in exhaust going out. IMO these engines are wound pretty tight already, they're already getting 1.5 HP per cubic inch from the factory. Full blown (reliably built) race engines do good to get 2 HP per cubic inch. The new LZ0 gets 1.65 HP per cubic inch. Im just blown away by that alone. That said i wouldnt mind a little more oomph at the top end on my 21 LM2.

Yeah this is at least just out in the garage - house was built in 2017 but we purchased in 2021 so not much we can do about it.

The big question that I have is what are the differences in the stock LM2 and the updates that Banks Engineering did for GM. Allegedly Banks did like 1000 updated pick up trucks for military applications.

Hey Arlene - I'm honestly not familiar with the Banks military upgrades so I can't be of much help here.

without tuning there is 0 gain and most likely less performance with any mods with out tuning. The PPE oil pan is a ok idea and the PPE trans pan lowered my temps 10 degs. It never got above 190 before though. in ny or driving to Wyoming from ny.

J - Yes, without tuning, many aftermarket products won't have much power gains, but certainly not none.
@JCunningham21
@JCunningham21 10 месяцев назад
@@8020Media they've been tested. the intakes all just suck in hot air, the intake pipes do nothing. The other stuff just lowers temps. So unless your in a exstream environment towing a heavy load you wont need it.

Should I consider one of these? How cheap are they to service? Otherwise I'm just gonna go with a 6.4 powerstroke (cheapo man awaayyyy!!!!)

May - We've heard nothing but good things about the LM2, aside from the injectors. We think this may be useful for your research: chevytrucks.org/common-3-0l-duramax-problems/

What about piggyback tuners, like the AG Diesel Solutions 61800 Performance Module?

@juliozapata3686 AG Diesel has terrible reviews for our engine. Stealth Modules and Edge just released actual tuners.

Ehat exhaust system? It has straight pipes? You can upsize diameter but its been proven to do nothing for sound or preformance.
@8020Media
@8020Media 9 месяцев назад
I agree you're not going to get much performance benefit from an exhaust system (without removing all the emissions equipment). But it will have a small impact on backpressure reduction and exhaust flow. Ideally a downpipe would be the most beneficial but I don't think any are on the market yet.
