Broooo, at 5:30 I almost cried. My fancy goldfish are in 40 gallons, 5-6 inch each, (two of em). I couldn't believe my babies in that cheseball container.
Hei Chris, That green carpet in the picture I sent is indeed algea. I left it there on purpose because i belief that it doesn’t ruin the view, serves as a carpet, it’s beneficial for the water quality and so it’s my friend instead of enemy. I embrace it and make it a part of my scape :) Thanks for rating it :D
My montecarlo carpet thing wont carpet, maybe this is the thing to do? Actually good job i like the idea it reminds me of bigger problems in our ecosystem, we want clean grass gardens and parking spots and we lack of wild plants, wildlife etc, accepting some here and there helps the planet and everything. Inspiring 5/5
@@sheihokee4941 Sometimes carpeting plants can grow better in a shallow dish with high light and then once you have a mat of it, you can just plop it in the tank!
I like that the first tank is really big, but I personally hate when nothing is in there, like I’m a very strong believer of providing fish with hiding places, and or giving a somewhat natural looking environment. (Maybe I’m biased since I keep saltwater)
Yea I get the idea with a lot of monster fish keepers is just to show off the fish, and the huge filtration system is very impressive, but I think it would do better with at least some substrate and a piece of wood or two
Also both a SW and monster guy, the issue is a lot of the fish in that tank will either DESTROY or hurt themselves on any sort of decoration. Most fish do appreciate hiding space but not arowana or bichir. King of Diy has them like this too
@@squidarcherb9707 Really? Hmm. Yeah that makes sense. I just find it kinda messed up I guess to keep a fish in purely a glass box with nothing else from a stimulation and mental prospective, but I guess that’s how it is. But bichirs are the same way?? I didn’t know that
Regarding that plakat betta, I have seen bettas that look like that, it’s basically just a horrible deformity. That betta looks like it has really bad scoliosis (also referred to as “humpback”). Typically the recommendation is to buy a betta with little to no dip near the mouth. Some dip is fine. Excessive dip from the back to the mouth is typically a sign of deformity.
I’m gonna do it: Here we have the natural Chris, otherwise referred to as the ‘Chirs’. One of the very things this one is most known for, is his sarcasm with aquariums. Usually, the Chris will remark aquariums with his sarcasm, but as you see, his current prey of the day is monster fish. *Hilarious, but verbally murderous.*
I don't really like tanks that are completely empty like that, without even substrate, but I gotta admire that the first guy really put a TON of effort into getting a well-cycled and well-filtrated tank that's definitely big enough for that stocking! Rare monster fish keeper that seems to actually care.
@@capuchinosofia4771 Yeah, I get the idea with a lot of monster fish keepers is just to show off the fish, and the huge filtration system is very impressive for sure, but I think it would do better with at least some substrate and a piece of wood or two to give the fish some enrichment or hiding places.
This might not be relevant to a lot of people but if you ever get stung by a jellyfish, as much as it burns, vinegar really helps. Got stung on both hands a few years back in Spain, which is really ironic because where I was there had been maybe two jellyfish sightings in the last ten years and yet, moi, managed to get stung by one. As further example of my very prevalent (*ironie*) luck, the only pharmacy/drug store that was open that day was severely understocked and didn't have anything to soothe the burning. Which is why I found out that wetting tissue paper with vinegar and placing it on the sting, will lessen the irritation and the burning will stop for a bit. Thought I'd share in case anyone ever finds themselves in the same situation. (Please don't pee on yourself because that's a myth.)
in my opinion, there's a huge difference between "surviving" and "thriving" - too many people go with the absolute minimum for things to get by. sure, there can be cases where that works, but what kind of life is it? a fish stuck in a tank (or something that people think can replace one) where they don't have room to move, sometimes not even turn, filthy conditions, barely able to squeak by and keep on living. it's cruel, and while they might not be killing their fish swiftly, it's a slow, agonizing death while they just....exist. kind of like someone living in a closet for their lifetime, with barely enough oxygen surrounded by their own filth. whatever kind of pet you get, it's a living creature that's depending on you for their care. go for the best care you can give it within your budget, and if that's not enough to provide a good life, no matter if it's a cheap species or not, don't get it to begin with
Ah! So good to see Pashy again! Chris, too, I guess.😅 That understocked Angelfish tank was gorgeous, but I think you're right, could use a friend. A jellyfish, maybe? Can't let the clownfish have all the fun!🤣🖤
9:40 That's a thing, it's a short body Betta (a type of dwarfism), same genetic trait that's seen in Jellybean cichlids, Balloon ram cichlids, and fancy golden carp etc.
Its always a good start in the week when I see your cute crested gecko. I always thought that I wouldn't like them, then I saw many fish tank reviews with her and now I got one on my own since 2 weeks
@@FishForThought thats what I love most about them, I love climbing myself and seeing it just make me happy. Every morning when I wake up I see mine and every night when I go to bed ^^ she uses every inch and I cant wait till shes bigger and gets a big tank.
I used to think your critics were too harsh but honestly I get your style. You care about the fish and it has a life. A lot of people don’t realize that
The one with the rainwater barrel could actually be a temporary habitat. Especially if you have a pond that is likely to freeze through, they can be a good way for your fish to survive winter. They're cheap and they can hold quite a lot of water. A large barrel with good filtration isn't a bad enclosure, it's just not pretty. And it is definitely waaaay better than putting the fish in a small (e.g. 40 gallon or less) aquarium. I just saw a post where someone asks for help because the water in her 11 gallon tank containing four medium sized goldfish is running wild. My tank is a bit over 90 gallons and appart from the financial aspects - this thing is going nowhere, not even empty. It's heavy and you can't just store it away in the summer. So a large barrel might actually be an amazing option.
9:44 That "betta platty" is actually a result of bad breeding but because it looks funny people still breed these They're called bullet bettas, most don't live very long.
I wrote a maths test and there was a fish 20 gallon tank with two bettas and four tetras... I thought of Chris because in the test the person who owned the tank wanted to add 20 more fish They also did the first per gallon rule...
I don't know the context behind the fish in the bottom of the barrel one, and while I've not defending what they are doing to the fish, this is actually not uncommon at all to see, at least for me 10 years ago. I've seen setups like this, commonly in rainwater barrels, that collect the water runoff from the roof. The water is collected and then used for watering plants or for flushing. Very often, these barrels are filled with mosquitoes offspring, hence why people put fish and mint leaves in there to prevent an outbreak. I've seen them in South Eastern China, the Philippines, Germany and England. It genuinely works very well, and seems to be genuinely a common practice all over the world in more rural parts of the countries, no matter the level of income. I think it very much depends on how the people feel about the fish, because some of these individuals also have their own fish tanks inside their homes which have a reasonable setup, and that they do genuinely care about the fish inside. I guess fish considered as pets are more privileged than the ones considered as "workers". So while the continuation of this practice should probably be stopped, there is weirdly an actual "culture" behind it.
I really like the monster fish tank, although I generally doesn't like bare bottom tanks... but I understand how it's MUCH more easy to keep it clean with that stocking.
Actually I was considering getting something like that cheeseball container to upgrade from on of my tanks. I have this .25g betta tank that I’ve been housing ostracods for over a year now, their population was so high I had to kill off over half of them. (They’re ostracods, they’re eaten the same as bbs except unlike bbs these actually sink/swim down so my corydoras don’t need to filter feed)
Yesterday day I gave away my tank 😞🥲🥲 for 4 good long years I've been in this hobby from African chiclids to Oscars and golden arro ..then finally into planted tank after seeing Chris' video.. thank you chirs for making this hobby enjoyable for me I've been watching you since you were 5k .. I'll always enjoy ftrs no matter what 💜
I am the one who submitted the tank at 3:15. It’s not my tank (sadly I don’t have any fish), it belongs to Ten from NCT. He was showing off the tank in a video and I also thought it looked a bit small/over stocked. I just wanted to know your opinion, as you definitely know more than me. 😄
The other day, I went to a minigolf course with a very, very green pond. My only relief was that I didn't see any fish for over an hour...until I saw a dying, bent goldfish. That's when I realized there were others. They swam very slow, letting me know there was barely any oxygen in that water.
Geléfiskar, what you guys call Swedish Fish, is a very nice kind of sweets. If not visiting Sweden, you can still get it - your local IKEA might sell it. Directly translated from Swedish to English, Geléfiskar is; Jelly Fish. Our word for Jelly Fish fish (why is it called fish?... the creatures living in the sea) are called; Maneter. Like the English word Sea nettle, but in Swedish Mar (sea)+ Neta (old word for nettle) = Ma(r)net(a) = Manet. Linné (Linneaus) used the word and it is found as eary as 1745 in the Swedish language. Swedish very trivial trivia. :)
I think for a first timer, 20g long are definitely a good option. Not that expensive compared to larger tanks, big enough that you can keep a good stocking, but small enough that they won't be an overwhelming amount of work. Just a good starting size before you get more knowledgeable about the hobby and/or decide to go larger.
I would also recommend a 20 long, or 40 gallon breeder. If you want goldfish, you can keep two or three fancy goldfish in the 40. An go for a light stocking! I'm sure you've heard that before but it really helps. And wherever you set it up, put ease of water change near the top of the list. When I was a kid the main reason my first tank didn't get enough water changes was how hard it was to get the water there.
First tank!!! I use to have a sump bigger than that running shrimp tanks, I built the acrylic sump and all the tanks myself. He uses the same air pump as me. Yes, it was a very cool setup.
Was gutted to wake up to no FFT on my birthday, but lovely way to end my day. Few ideas for stocking my under stocked tank but jelly fish would be cool in a new one.
Recently got some green Cory’s and I’m glad he said that about the hallowed place under flat stones helped me decide how to aqua scape my new 45 gallon
I've watched through all the FTRs lately and I've heard the words "nutritious substrate" so much it has me eyeing off the gravel in my tank and getting kinda hungry...
Me going diving: wow! There’s actually no fish here, I came to sea fish in the ocean, such a waste of money. It’s more understocked than my 20g betta aquarium Meanwhile, the thousands of tiny jellyfish floating in the water: am I a joke to you?
I really want a goldfish tank, bu there's so much inaccurate, and inconsistent information I don't have a clue what's good, and what isn't anymore. People are saying 30 gallons is just right for two small ones, (runts, not stunts) people are saying 30 is too small for one. They'll choke on gravel, so you can't use that for substrate- but they'll die if they eat sand. They can cut themselves on certain stones, and grazing on ceratin plants will make them sick. The list goes on and on, it sucks. I don't think half the people know what they're talking about, but watching FTR gives me some confidence about these things, so that's great, I guess. Thanks Chris
Just got a free shallow extra long 75gallon that needs resealing baddly Currently scrapping old silicone off an was getting tired untill this pumped me up, my cory catfish and kuhli loaches are about to get a mansion and i dont have to throw out plants anymore
THATS ME YOOO 9:57 a lot has changed with my ultra ghetto aquarium and evrything is growing in neatly I am now addicted to buying plants- water had a weird hue due to tannins from dirt and I think it had something in it that killed my shrimp. Right now tho I am trying to make the thing shrimp safe because shrimp are very cute :)
I was at Petco the other day picking up some new wood pieces for one of my snakes enclosures and I saw something horrible.....glofish Betta fish. It was horrible, they actually went there and made Bettas glofish.
I don't know, it /could/ be some kind of platy? You can definitely get some nice reds, the bodyshape does look kind of balloon and there are highfins and lyretails so the potential for differing fins is there. Could also be something like the cauliflower swords? Could also just be some kind of photoshop job, something about the lower fins doesn't look like it'd work for a livebearer
@@FishForThought Omg I just saw you replied I’ve had the worse day today ( my bf broke how it me last night ) and this totally just made me feel better love your vids!!!
The "I was thinking of a betta and a mystery snail" -meme is me rn. I'm just setting up a 120L (30gal) heavily planted high tech tank and will add *drum rolls please * a single betta and a dusky nerite snail. All my aquaintances keep asking me what I'll put in there and if I've thought about fish x, but I actually like the idea of it just being this tiny betta in this big tank. I hope he'll like it too .
Happy happy Monday to you and your beautiful co-host Chris 🙏😍 That monster tank💪😍 that is so awesome, a dream tank for sure!! Snapback to reality... Oops there goes.... that first tank its my cousin's tank i was so shocked too see on YT and i told him immediatly he was shocked too! and no it 500,1000 or 2000 gallons its actually 280 gallons and the sump filter is 190 gallons. aquarium measurement is 6x2.5x2.5 feet. sump tank measurement is 5x2x2
Hey Chris… I know this is an old FTR but I’ve only just watched it… the fish in the vibrant fake marine set up up isn’t.a glow fish… it’s worse… I think it’s a white Goldfish!
I work at petco. Yesterday i told a lady her 10g tank was too small for goldfish. She said it wasn't, yelled at me, told me she has been doing it since she was a kid, thanked me for ruining her day and said she would go somehwere else. It was so hostile 😂I was thinking like damn good bc im not selling u a fish so u can abuse it. i should have directed her to chirs channel.
It’s sad how betta owners keep their poor fish in cups and small things. Half of the time, they at least put in a heater! My friend, who’s sister’s birthday party I went to, she had a betta in a 1 gallon tank, with no heater or plants. She said “My betta isn’t your average betta, he doesn’t need a heater” “I don’t put plants because they grow algae”. We recommended her to get a bigger tank, 5 gallons at least. At least she considered that. I’ve shown her my betta and previous betta in my 10gal. I even showed her a picture of my betta next to the heater (he loves doing that even when the water is the right temperature.). Nope. Still refuses to get a heater. Said the pet store person said he didn’t need a heater. Now, listen up. Her family is very close to mine, around 1 neighbourhood away. There’s one nearby pet store closest to us. I know the people working in the fish section. Cared very much for the fish, so helpful when my previous betta got swim bladder. I don’t think they told her that. I believe she decided herself that her betta doesn’t need a heater. She feeds her fish those cheap aqueon pellets. When I was first got Quartz, I fed him those too and wouldn’t understand why he’d spit them out. After 4 days of him not eating, we got smaller pellets as his mouth was small. She doesn’t care if it fits his mouth or not. It just falls. Now, you can imagine how angry I am at her. Hope her fish dies quickly so he’s free of suffering. He’s so pretty too. He’d look just like Quartz did with some love. (Sadly can’t get rid of her bc her parents are friends with mine)
