I love CLE. I used it for my daughter's entire grade 1 curriculum (Language arts, Learning to Read, Reading, and Math). It was my first year homeschooling ever, and I taught her to read this year using this curriculum! Next year my son will be doing the same grade 1 curriculum and my daughter will be moving on to grade 2. It's so simple to use, everything is planned for me. It's SO inexpensive!!! And best of all, God is at the center of every lesson.
Hi! How long did a day of learning take for you? First time homeschool mom looking for programs. I love what I see of CLE except the learning program seems quite rigorous and hard (a friend of mine mentioned they teach based off the dictionary)
Thank you Thank you Thank you for this review. I’m so glad I found this video. I have been researching and researching for many many hours across several days and this video has just ended my search❤. I can literally say without a doubt I am completely happy, confident and satisfied with my curriculum choices as I will be starting my first year of homeschool with my 4 year old. Thank you again your video has given me peace of mind I’m not even joking. Bless you ❤
I met the owners of Christian Light Education at a homeschooling conference, and they were really wonderful people. We never had a chance to use this reading program when my kids were young.
We got a little sample from a homeschool convention we went to. We really loved it, but your review was so wonderfully thorough, I am purchasing now! Thanks for this great review of an awesome curriculum.
There is something to be said for physically moving the book to another stack, etc. as you mentioned. I see the same thing when using flash cards or index cards versus an app. My kids like to physically move the pieces and see the stack. I wish I had all the money to buy up curriculum and review them all, but I don't. Thanks for showing these.
I have always be intrigued by CLE, I normally buy my planner from them wo when I do my planner video which is in the works I will shout your channel out and this video for other homeschoolers to get this info.
Have you used their progress report charts? I can’t seem to find an explanation on any of their websites about how to fill out the administrative forms. I’m scratching my head on how to assign my child her grades / end of year report card. She just completed 500 series full curriculum.
I agree that Christian Light doesn't get the attention they deserve. I have only used there social studies grade 8 book. It was really comprehensive and filled in all the gaps my dd missed from public school. Another similar Mennonite curriculum is Rod and Staff. I've used them for 5 years for math (grades 1-7), english (grades 1-10), and reading (grades 1-6). They are very inexpensive but so thorough. I am planning on trying on CL for reading next school year. Thank you for the review.
I have never used CLE Social Studies...that’s good to know! Yes I’ve used Rod and Staff for pre-K for all my kids and love it! So glad you enjoyed the video!
I really appreciate your channel because you are talking about curriculum resources I haven't heard of elsewhere. I'm quite intrigued with Christian Light and Biblioplan now. Thanks for making these videos so I can see inside the texts. I don't live near homeschool conferences, so I rely 100% on RU-vid videos for research.
I’m so glad these were helpful for you! I really want to bring light to some of these amazing curriculums that for some reason aren’t as popular or widely talked about as I think they should be!
Thanks for sharing such a thorough review! We've never come across this reading curriculum before! It's really interesting that they include learning how to read diacritical marks, I haven't seen a program that explicitly taught those to kids before.
Great review. You've got me really thinking about CLE. I am using Rod and Staff for math facts practice but my youngest child has vision and learning issues and she's struggling. She's also as flighty as her mother about what she likes. 😅 She takes after me. I just can't stop looking at curriculum. I stumbled onto your channel while looking into math and this reading looks very interesting. I might think about getting it to reinforce some concepts after my daughter finished 100 Easy Lessons. Sadly she's my last. I almost wish I had tried this when we started homeschooling 19 years ago. Thanks for being so thorough.
I haven't used Rod and Staff, but I have heard comparisons of between that and CLE and CLE always seems to come out on top! Definitely something you should look in to. I'm glad this was helpful!
I reviewed Learning to Read in one of my earlier videos. It’s called: How to teach your child to read! The Reading Lesson/Christian Light Education curriculum review Let me know if you would like more detail other than what is in this video!
@@ourthriftyhomeschool I thought my kids were getting the phonics but we started out reading and the words that we worked with in our curriculum (delightful reading) are not sticking which is kind of frustrating but when they are reading their books and come to a word they don't know we sound it out and it sticks better that way. So should I just stick with reading books or should I try to put a square peg in a round hole and continue with the phonics program (they love the program but like I said it's not sinking in I think because it is just words on the page it's not concrete enough for them)? Or do I change my phonics program into more story based and if I do that which program would be best?
I know A.C.E (Pace) and LifePac are similar to CLE. Have you ever used A.C.E. or Alpha/Omega - LifePac? I know they are both Mastery regarding math, rather than spiral, but do you know any other huge differences between their Reading curriculums? Not sure if you are familiar with them. Be well. :)
I have a friend who did ACE for years, but I have no experience with that or lifepac...I’m sorry. I’m not sure how they compare. CLE is definitely spiral for math and That’s one reason I’m going back to it. I much prefer the spiral approach for math over mastery. CLE reading is solid and much more than just reading comprehension. Highly recommend it! I just can’t compare it to the other two. Sorry I couldn’t help.
I’ve been hoping to try this curriculum for my older boy. We have used master books but their book stops at 6 unfortunately. And then it switches to reading strands (?). Anyways I am hoping to find more videos on ChristianLight education for older grades. :) have you tried it with your older children?
Great video! Does the language arts have to be at the same grade level as the reading? I think my daughter would be level 2 reading and level 1 language arts but not sure if they’re supposed to go together.
I'm looking into doing the reading and LA from CLE will that cover spelling and writing? or will I need to subpplement? I have been working with Evan Moore spelling which we like but trying to be more simple- thank you
