To be clear I have an extensive education, but very little is in mathematics 😅 Thank you for catching this! You are a champion and I need to re-visit the west grade😥
Bar end mirrors down may look good to you but to me they just look wrong. As an engineer, retired, I find the saying “form follows function” is very often correct, bar end mirrors down are not functional, which is probably why they look wrong.
Yes, I agree. If your arm blocks the bar end down mirror, and you have to move your head to see traffic in the mirror, it is not helping you very much. Looking cool can get you killed. @@murraymarshall5865
stock position will always be best, theres a reason for it. The up and down positions is just for coolness. I'll take safety over coolness every day of the week.
While I agree, I am also wide, and fill over half my stock mirrors, so went for bar end upright (with mirrors out, as then no hand banging. I am now only a sliver in the mirror
I agree safety and practicality should always be more important than style. That being said, I'm a pretty big guy and I can't always get stock mirrors in the right position where I can see behind me without my arm obstructing the view. I think bar end mirrors in the upright position could give me a better view... I actually came to this video to check out the difference 😅
Call me old man, I prefer keeping my bike stock, so I run the stock mirrors. I prefer the look of the stock bike plus don't want to bother with after market mirrors, nothing against them just don't want to bother.
That’s extremely rational and usually a smarter way to be. If I haven’t lost my trust in European bikes I would have probably gone with a Ducati Multistada V2 and (ignoring panniers/top-box) would have likely left it stock. But the tracer is what’s good for me after a bit of wrenching. Only 1 mad left (note my cruise control video) then I’m done…. Maybe😅
The stock mirror I had on my Honda CB 1100 RS, Royal Enfield Scram, and previous Triumph Bonneville not only look like Micky Mouse's ears, my arms and shoulders obscured 50% of the view, I couldn't see cars or bikes following close and directly behind. Bar ends in the up position gives me a 100% unobstructed rear view. I haven't tried them down because I don't think they don't look cool on any bike, they're out of my peripheral vision, and, depending on the bike, could contact the tank on full lock.
I always switch out my mirrors with Tuono mirrors, which have a better rise to angle ratio. I’ve used them a half a dozen times, including my current tracer gt. You need an adapter for one side, reverse threads, but that’s easy. Cheers 👍🇨🇦
5:55 I very much disagree. I think bar end mirrors in the down position look horrible. It looks like your handlebar has earrings 😂Even stock looks better than down.
Unpopular opinion but i hate the look of bar end mirrors. Even if they offered better functionality I'd keep the stock mirrors just so my bike doesnt look like a buffalo
My pen is is smaller than most out there so I'm looking for bar end mirrors that give me a poor view, but look cool to help me get through life with this unfortunate condition.
I have tried bar end mirrors down and you have take your off the road ahead and look virtually downcto look at the mirrors. Basic rule 8s that if you have your move your head to look at the mirrors then it is a bad position.. Bar end mirrors do look cool but serve no purpose.
@@KairyuRider I think for me is the safety aspect of it. Also, the more visible I am, the better chance that my non rider wife will give me shit being on my "death machine" 😂...she's still giving me crap about not fixing the Vstar instead of buying an SV1000s 😏
As a driver trainer, I don't give a ripp about style or fashion. Safety is number one. I've seen too many people get their legs ripped off from not seeing a car sneak up beside them. So for what it's worth here's my observation. Most guys with angular mirrors have them on upside down. And if you don't believe me just sit down, and take a look in these upside down mirrors. Almost the entire outside end is looking at sky! And how is that going to help you see cars? Cars are on the ground, not the sky. So if you have the misfortune of having a set of these mirrors on your bike, try to rotate the left one counterclockwise, and the right one clockwise. If that does not work, throw them in the garbage. Bottom line: You need to see traffic, NOT sky.
Sorry, but I'm not sure what you're talking about. All my mirrors have always pointed at traffic, not cloud watching. Maybe it looks different in my video? Camara is mounted to my chin bar nut my eyes, so that could make it look different?
Brooo! you video is awesome you deserve more subscribers. Been trying to figure out which mirror position I should use, thanks to this video! U earned my sub
Thanks, ya I was looking for a video when doing my mirrors, and nobody outright compares, so I figured I’d pass it on to the RU-vid universe😅 Glad I could help, thanks for the sub
I briefly explained in the video be essentially filtering speed is Under 30kmh (20mph) and no more than 15kmh (10mph) faster than the other cars. This what everyone has time to react and small mistakes stay small. I believe this is the general standard give or take globally, We would both prefer I only ding your mirror rather than go head first through your window😅 Splitting is anything outside of those speeds. It does happen here but usually on on scooters or on major highways where you could fit an entire car in between and traffic is still comparably slow. And in traffic jams of any speed car drivers tend to move away from center to give way to bikes. Speeds things up for everyone. I’ll plan to make a more detailed video on this in the future.
@@KairyuRider gotcha. Here in Jersey, I'm pretty sure it's illegal (what isn't 🙄) but with all the Karens on the road, they'll swerve into you instead of letting you filter. The cars make it dangerous. I'm sure it's a different culture over there and ppl in cars are nicer to bikers?
Filtering and splitting scare the crap out of me. I used to do it all the time, until some dork popped his door open as I passed him. I ended out in the hospital. I did collect a large insurance settlement, but the scars I bear on my body say it was not worth it.@@KairyuRider
hmmm...my stock mirrors suck because literally the only thing I see in them without large movements is my shoulders. If filtering were legal where I am, they would not be an issue though because they are so far toward the center of the bike. Even worse replacing them would not help because it is the position on the bars being permanently fixed that is the primary issue and the mirrors have my front blinkers on them so they are wired in. My windshield does not obstruct my vision and for me it is just a place to mount things. In order to get something approaching safe vision of what's happening, I had to do the following: The stock mirrors are still there I added a holographic mirror to the top of my windshield which gives me pretty decent vision, but it mainly gives me an overall sense rather than specifics. I added Fenrir Cafe Racer round bar end mirrors (which can also rotate all the way in) and between the holographic and the end bar mirrors, I can now see everything. The stock mirrors are for decoration. I feel sorry for anyone traveling behind me if the sun is at my back. lol
Hey, I watch your videos and enjoy them. Which kind of mounting way would you suggest to SV650X with clip-ons? I dont like the stock ones look. Would like to have more cafe style...
In my 32 years of riding I had 2 accidents. This is to say that today at my age I understood that there's no such thing as too much safety. I dig the whole scene of modding your bike but the stock mirrors are the best mirrors you can have in 95% of cases. Don't swap them. They were made that way for a reason. I understand people bullshitting themselves such as "O yeah but the stock mirrors don't give me the right angle or level of vision or my hands or my shoulders or my ass covers part of the mirror." You know that's all bullshit right? When Honda or Suzuki or whoever make mirrors they give them sufficient mobility for riders from 5 foot 3 to 6 foot 3 to be able to have full view. Mike out.
I now ride an mt07, and the handle bars are the width of my shoulders. This means the stock Mirrors give me the choice to stare at my shoulders and elbow or adjust them to see the lain to my left and right but never being me. I put on bar end Mirrors and can now see everything behind me and in both lanes to my left and right. I worked for yamaha Japan for a year and have friends who work for the other 3 Japanese makers. The way them make Mirrors is, first and foremost, to follow road regulations. Second is to save as much money as they can to mass produce for multiple bike. So my wide handled tracer has the same Mirrors as my narrow mt07. Safety is in the conversation but only after road rules (for example hamlets passing DOT while that standard allows life threatening impact) and then it is a mass production money saving. That being said. My wife who is much smaller than me loves the stock Mirrors for her pov and safety. But don't trust the oem as if they never cut corners or just get it wrong. They definitely do. And bikes are a risk of safety. If it's safety first every time. Sel the bike, buy a train or bus ticket.
Can’t believe anyone would waste time making this video. bar end mirrors not only look awefull they don’t do a good job, stock mirrors are where they are for a reason but obviously know far more than a major bike manufacturer 😂🤦🏻
@paulnicker120 yamaha doesn't seem to think it's less safe Rather, stock Mirrors follow all road laws, very few countries actually require the "stock" position. That plus the ease to biuld 1 mirror for almost every bike in the yamaha range makes it extremely cost effective. But I'm sure you are also an expert/professional in the motorcycle industry, right? You know better than Yamaha. Like and sub
Several bike manufacturers, Triumph to name one of them, fit bar end mirrors stock. Many of those that don't offer them as a factory alternative. I have MUCH better rear view vision with bar end mirrors in the up position where they are hardly further away from stock Mickey Mouse ones.
