Took me a minute to remember that Chris might not have the greatest relationship with his parents since the JW video, so hearing him say he got to enjoy Top Gun with his mom really was an awesome thing hear. Happy new year, Stuckmann!
@@RK-rf8rc him and his family were all JW, but Chris left the church/group because he wanted to be a film critic and he wouldn’t have been able to do that had he stayed a JW. His family and friends basically cut him off for leaving
@@Justice237 That's so nice to hear! It wouldn't surprise me if it's partly because he became a Dad. Maybe wanting to see the grandchildren was the push she needed. Sometimes kids have an amazing capability to bring people together.

I love Chris and his channel - I came for the special announcement because I’m really excited about anything he works on. Looking forward to the podcast. Happy new year everyone!
Ine thing I enjoy about you Chris is that you not only do this for your passion of movies and anime, but also who help people who enjoy it to even people who watching it casually. That's awesome of you
Seeing The Outfit on this list made me so happy man. It's truly a phenomenal film and Mark Rylance is truly amazing as well as Zoey Deustch and Dylan O'Brien and that ending really catches you off guard....like TRULY unexpected.
I saw it on peacock, not thinking twice about it. It was amazing! Dylan O’Brien is a great actor, and I love seeing him go beyond Maze Runner. Especially after his very unfortunate accident on the third film.
Can we appreciate Colin Farrell who just had the most spectacular year? So many amazing films he has been in just this year and the variety of performances.
I don't check in as often as I used to. But I'm glad to see you thriving, Chris. I'm still so proud of you for talking about your JW experience. I'm glad to see you could see a movie with your mom this year. I'm looking forward to seeing your film, and all your future films. Love and light to you.
Hey Chris, I picked up The Outfit because of you, and I gotta say it did not disappoint. A super small cast in a single set piece made it feel like I was watching a play. Its small and simple and the actors really get to act, Mark Rylance was spooky in Bones & All and in this he is very calm and almost mouse like at times... such great range. I also recommend the Outfit to anyone who hasn't seen it yet.
Everything Everywhere All at Once was such a surprise! I thought Maverick was going to be number 1 on my list, but then I decided to watch Everything and it completely blew me away - the humor, dialog, soundtrack, action and heart.
@@rrando726 original masterpiece ? There's like a million movies & Tv shows about the Multiverse LMAO Plus TOP GUN is done for real, not some CGI Green nonsense like in STAR wars
such a good list!! my top 10 of the year are 1.) Aftersun 2.) Everything Everywhere All at Once 3.) The Fabelmans 4.) Decision to Leave 5.) Bones and All 6.) Nope 7.) Babylon 8.) White Noise 9.) The Banshees of Inisherin 10.) Tár
The opening of top gun maverick when you hear the iconic theme on the aircraft carrier and then it switched to Highway to the danger zone and the planes taking off I knew it instantly this would be my favorite movie of the year
I'm not even a fan of the first film, but I went with my friend to see it, and when the intro carrier scene was over, I said ''yup I got my money's worth''
The banshee of inisherin took me by surprise in the last 1hr 10 minutes. Loved how grim and dark it went. Quite greusome as well! Made me think I'd never want to live on an island like that.
Ive been watching your channel since i was in high school. I am happy for you and your family and i wish the best for you on your future endeavors Chris!
I can’t emphasize enough how much I trust and respect Chris’ movie reviews. I was worried he was bailing on RU-vid after become a filmmaker, but I love his reviews. The way he explains his opinion without any malice. Just how he feels, and with legitimate reasons to back it up. One of the few movie reviewers I trust. Hope he keeps posting here, even after he becomes a director, a podcaster & much much more
As a busy dad like you, I see it in you. You've grown. You've changed. Your words have many unspoken thoughts behind them, and you've matured. You are a good person, and its obvious to many people that watch your channel. Wish you all the best in the new year.
People often praise Everything Everywhere All At Once for its creativity and originality, and while I most certainly agree, what struck me most about the film was how deeply profound it was. Seeing that movie in theaters literally changed my life.
I look forward to your lists every year Chris. Literally look forward to your review of every movie I see, keep going man. Thank you for the endless entertainment and laughs
Found your channel back in 2015 when I was 13 and you basically led me into pursuing film and watching movies in a more knowledgeable way. Now I'm about to be 21 and want to be a movie director. So I can't wait for this podcast, I feel like I'm gonna learn a lot of useful info for my career. Definitely will be tuning in for every episode, it sounds like a great idea.
Great list, Chris! Here’s my Top 10 Favorite Movies of 2022: 1. Top Gun: Maverick 2. The Batman 3. Everything Everywhere All At Once 4. The Fabelmans 5. Avatar: The Way of Water 6. Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery 7. Babylon 8. The Northman 9. RRR 10. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever I'm really looking forward to your podcast, it sounds great and exciting!
I think it's safe to say that Colin Farrell had a really fantastic year out of any other actor. The Batman, Thirteen Lives, and The Banshees of Inisherin proved that he's one of the best actors working today! Can't wait to see what he does next!
Great video Chris thanks for an amazing year. I’m working on my thesis film right now and you are a huge inspiration to me. When it’s done I hope to send it to you in some way. Cant wait for a great year
Love the concept of the project upcoming this year. I studied film production couple years ago, one of the most valuable things I've experienced is the filmmaking journey and also the pure spark to trigger this adventure. So excited about this project ❤️
Me and my best friend actually really wanted to go see the outfit, the first time we saw the trailer for it was when we they were showing the godfather in the theater for a limited time for it's 50th anniversary (which is also the first time my friend had seen the godfather). But after seeing the trailer we both really wanted to see it however neither of us could ever remember the name of the movie, I now know the name because of this video so thank you Chris for informing me what the name was and now I will go watch it
Have loved your videos and reviews for years now, Chris. Great list, as always. I have a love-hate relationship with films currently. I used to watch at least 1 new film and usually a couple of rewatches most weeks. Due to becoming a dad and eventually having 3 wonderful children, all with varying levels of additional needs, i have been able to watch fewer and fewer films. Not a big deal, I know, but the fewer films I watched, the harder I found it to watch them. Especially new films. I so rarely have the chance to watch a film that I almost always put on something familiar and comfortable when I do get the chance. Anyway. I've only seen a few new films this year just gone. Of which the number 1 by a big distance was "Aftersun". It has brought me back to life in many ways, it feels like.
A movie that is MADE for me is "Decision to leave" It just sweeps into me and how can I forget to mention Tang Wei . She is the best I have seen this year
All Quiet on The Western Front is definitely my number 1 for the year. The story, the acting, the set pieces, the score, the cinematography, etc. Everything about it was phenomenal and some of the best stuff I have seen in a while. I'm surprised this slipped under Chris's radar, I'm sure it would have easily made this list.
Yes, I'm also a little bit surprised he missed that one. This is my pick for movie of the year as well. It's a beautiful movie, despite its unflinching brutality. If it gets the nomination for Best International Film, that should increase its visibility to American audiences. Felix Kammerer gave an excellent performance as Paul. His facial expressions, particularly in the last 10 minutes of the film, were haunting. If the performance had been in English, he would've likely gotten Academy attention for a performance like that. It's a great movie.
So glad to see you also loved The Outfit, Chris. That was one I took my grandfather to and it blew him away. So it's a bit special for me. Overall my list is extremely similar to yours, but I'd also find a way to include Nope and Inu-Oh. Can't wait to see your film next year when it is finished. Your breakout into making an actual film is an inspiration 🙌
Thank you Chris, your reviews are superb, been following your channel since I saw The water diviner, I was searching for a review on RU-vid and I found your channel and stayed ever since. Greetings from Juárez, Mexico.
100% agree with you on Top Gun Maverick. I saw the original at the cinema in 1986 as an 18 year old. Watched this in an Imax cinema and have watched it another 4 times since with various friends and family. I was floored, jaw dropping, goosebumps, lump in throat and I even shed a tear ot two. As good as it gets! 🔥🔥🔥
Great end of year list as always Chris, The Batman and The Northman took my top spots. Thank you for all the great videos this year... Cant wait to watch Shelby Oaks! I hope you and your family had a great Holidays!
It really was a great year in cinema. I love movies, and you're my favorite voice on movies Chris. It doesn't matter that you don't feel like your a critic anymore. You point things out that I always miss. Can't wait to see Shelby Oaks.
I didn't see as many films in theaters this year, but I am so glad I was able to see 'Top Gun: Maverick' there. You hear the term "movie theater movie" -- movies that were made for the big screen -- and that is the perfect example. It has a different feel on the big screen and it's amazing. The sound design of that movie is top notch. It *feels* like you're in a plane and that the engine is so strong that the sound of it actually pulses through your body. It was such an incredible movie. And I know that some would have preferred an artsy/indie type movie at the top spot since they don't have the love/budget of others, but for me 'Maverick' earned it because the expectations just weren't as high -- at least in my opinion. We all heard of it and wanted to see it, but did anyone actually expect it to be THAT good? I was blown out of the water by it and absolutely love the movie. It earned #1 status without question.
So glad to see "The Outfit," on this list; an absolutely underrated film that not enough people saw! And I don't think you're exaggerating that Top Gun: Maverick saved movie theaters. That film managed to bring in so many people from so many different walks of life and have them all come together and enjoy just an exhilarating, excellent film. I loved it way more than I ever thought I ever would. I had never even heard of "Thirteen Lives" before this list, but now I have to check it out! Thanks!
Great list Chris. This year was a good year for some great movies and to narrow it down to top 10 is difficult. Just rewatched RRR, The Batman, and Top Gun Maverick. The excitement, the energy, and the emotions were all there in these 3 films. Also, really enjoyed Puss in Boots The Last Wish, Bullet Train, Everything Everywhere, The Northman, The Menu, and Prey.
Solid list. I need to check out the ones you mentioned that I skipped. I saw 30 new movies in 2022, and I agree that this was indeed a much better year for movies than the last couple overall (in spite of my crushing disappointment over most of the cape flicks this year with the obvious exception of the one on my list). Here's my current top 10 favorite movies and the honorable mentions at the moment (favorites that I most enjoyed, bot necessarily the "best"). It might change next time i think about it for all I know because some of these are almost interchangable for me. I've shuffled around 2-7 a ton, and they have all been in my top 3 at some point. 1. Top Gun: Maverick 2. Barbarian 3. The Batman 4. The Outfit 5. The Northman 6. RRR 7. Everything Everywhere All At Once 8. The Menu 9. Bullet Train 10. The Stranger Honorable Mentions: 11. Banshees of Inisherin 12. Nope 13. The Black Phone 14. The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent 15. Guillermo Del Toro's Pinocchio Is it too late to contribute to and see your film? I can't afford much, but I'd love to say I could help you fulfill your dream after having followed the channel for so long. Looking forward to the podcast as well!
Love to see my boy Chris evolving from the bedroom movie reviews to where he is today. Keep on doing what you do Chris, you truly are an inspiration to me. One of this days will be my turn to make a movie eheh. Happy new year!
Chris, I saw in another channel that your movie Shelby Oaks is coming soon. I am looking forward to seeing it and I wish you the greatest success. I haven't seen many of these films. I live in another country. But I did enjoy The Northman.
Nice list, happy new year! I really hope you post something about The Northman, my favorite movie this year. Hard to imagine you would miss it, or not liking it for that matter…
I highly recommend Apollo 10 1/2. It’s Richard Linklater’s movie from this year and it didn’t get enough love. It is definitely one of my favorites of the year. Edit: it was a Netflix release, if you’re wondering where you can find it.
@@thomsevilla4956 it was straight to Netflix. It made it to some festivals, but it didn’t even get a limited theatrical release (like Glass Onion or Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio) and the only major festival it hit was SXSW (and that’s only because it took place in Linklater’s home state of Texas). I really wish more people saw it because it was genuinely great. Linklater is one of my favorite working directors and even with that, this was one of my favorites of his.
you inspired me to start up my film review channel. I want to thank you so much for every thing that you have done. You helped me getting into film and inspirational me to be a filmmaker. So I just what to thank you so much.
Thank you Chris for yet another year of reviews and production insights! I'm not sure if you're aware of the massive impact you have on people like me who try break into the film industry. I will always observe the amazing film journey you're on and i'm really looking forward to the podcast and Shelby Oaks. Much love and gratitude from Germany. Keep it up! :)
Hey bax town, you know what i want chris to do. Is to watch the chosen and review both season 1 and season 2. Man! Im really curious what he thinks of this masterpiece of a show. its definitely one of the best tv series iv seen in my life. Im curious what jeremy jahns thinks of the chosen too and angryjoe?🤔
My cathartic "made for me" movie was Top Gun 2. A movie that influenced my decision to become a Navy aviator and to have the sequel released in my retirement year truly felt like it was "made for me". Thanks Chris, on to 2023!!!
Appreciate the love Chris gives for the dearly departed Chagrin Cinemas. I absolutely loved seeing movies there when I was young, and it’s one of the places where my love for storytelling began. I’m sure a lot of folks back home in Northeast Ohio would agree.
The Northman and Everything Everywhere all at Once both gave me faith that Hollywood can still make great movies. After watching them I consider both of them on my "favorite of all time" list. Everything Everywhere all at Once has, in it, everything I want from a movie. I cried, I laughed like a mad man, I felt warm, I felt happy, it had awesome action scenes. It really does encapsulate everything I could ask for. The Northman gives me everything I want in a story. The visuals, the characters, the storytelling... Much like the Lighthouse which I have also put on my "favorites of all time" list, The Northman is capable of transporting you to a completely different time and different world. Absolutely engrossing from beginning to end.
The Northman had so many impactful scenes. The last scene although I don’t believe in Valhalla was just insane. It really showed a lot of respect to the Viking people and displayed how fearless of a community they were. Eggers is the real deal. It’s definitely not a movie for everyone tho.
@@Bennythecoredriver Marvel movies are for everyone. I want to have more movies that don't cater to the general audience but that are willing to take risks and possibly turn some people off. The Northman is just that. I admire Eggers for having the balls to make movies like this.
strip out the unnecessary comedy in Everything Everywhere all at Once, add more depth to the film's dilemma like being lost in the chaotic multiverse and the movie would have been a 10 for me. it had too much influence from the MCU, tonal issues and the writers clearly couldnt elaborate the plot beyond a google searched definition of the word "multiverse". Cloud Atlas should have been the inspiration to this film.
Chris, thank you soo so much for doing the "The best movies" series year after year.. i have lost touch with movies coz Life happens and i appreciate you shedding some light on the list of best movies not to miss watching. Thank you so much.
Commenting before watching! I’ve been told my list has some hot takes lol. Note I missed both Everything Everywhere and Banshees, somehow. Those probably would’ve knocked 9 & 10 to my honorable mentions but here we go: 1. Top Gun Maverick 2. The Batman 3. Bones and All 4. The Northman 5. Glass Onion 6. Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio 7. Barbarian 8. Avatar: Way of Water 9. Bullet Train 10. Jackass Forever
I’m glad you brought up inspirations on film makers. I almost felt that when I was nine years old. I saw Raiders for the first time. I was in awe; blown away. Then a couple of years later. Blade Runner. Glad you brought up both films in your video. 😊
Thank you for your list and enthusiasm I definitely will check the ones out I haven’t seen yet. I can’t wait to see Shelby Oaks! I know it will be great 👍🏻
Chris, you always being the best RU-vidr like no other. You always being the best entertainer even informative person since Saberspark. To me, the 2 best Paramount movies of last year are TOP GUN; MAVERICK and SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 2. Both films are the best last year to have a nice theater experience. I hope more great films will come this year in 2023. Happy New Year, my good theater critic, to you and your family. Have a great one. YOU ROCK, CHRIS!
Thanks Chris for another awesome year with your content. Looking forward to your pod. Love your year list and here's mine 10 favorite films from 2022. 1. Mr. Harrigan's Phone (Netflix) 2. X 3. Barbarian 4. Smile 5. The Apology (Shudder) 6. The Batman 7. Top Gun: Maverick 8. Bullet Train 9. Violent Night 10. Jerry And Marge Go Large (Paramount+) I have only one Honorable Mention: DC League of Super Pets
I had the exact same top four, and I think Glass Onion, Everything Everywhere, Top Gun, and The Batman were all experiences that stood above the rest in 2022. Been watching you now since 2012, and can’t wait to watch your content for years to come!
Everything, Everywhere, All at Once was not only my favorite movie of the year, but one of my favorite movies of all time. It’s such an absolute 10/10 for me that I had to go back and reconsider how I personally rank movies for myself from here on out.
