I really enjoy Rachel's perspective on deck building (i.e. her excitement of the remove counters ability of Glissa). Her inclusion into the Command Zone podcast is so refreshing! The show has long needed a voice for the quirky deck builders.

i would like to see older commander decks revisited to show how these new cards can make them even better. an example is i have an oloro deck which i love playing even though it is not that strong. i have a painbow deck which i made modifications and actually replaced the commander with jodah the unifier. i would love to see how some of these new cards can really augment the older decks.

I was messing around with Urtet builds and found a route using your typical Isochron/Dramatic for infinite mana combo and drrawing your deck with (insert draw spell here we in WUBRG) where you dump everything on the field and use Osgir the Reconstructor to sac them all and bring them back as tokens, which Brudiclad then turns into copies of a single token... between all of the token doublers I was able to get over 2,000 Myr Battlespheres out and that felt absolutely amazing.

I feel you guys could have talked about Ovika, Enigma Goliath. It seems like another izzet storm tokens deck but it can do much more. The fact that it creat tokens on any non creture spell mean that artefact sacrifice outlets make their own sacrifices when entering the bettlefiel enableling an aristocrat strategy on Izzet. You could also use it with other phyrexian token generator and blue tribal sinergis to make phyrexian tribal.

The classic philly cheesesteak challenge: Have one at Geno's, then cross the street near the ballpark and have one at Pat's. Then you can have a Lipitor for dessert. Many folks argue that John's Roast Pork has the best cheesesteaks.

In terms of Philly Cheesesteaks the typical tourist spot is Pat's and Geno's. They are right across the street from each other so they are a good option if your short on time and want to sample the basic philly cheesesteaks. I like Jim's Steaks on South Street too. Jim's makes the wiz wit (cheese wiz with onions) in a classic way. Max's makes huge cheesesteaks. No matter where you go; BRING CASH!!!

Ria Ivor's text could be anticipation for the Battle cards, whatever they are. Initially, I thought of Kosei, Penitent Warlord from the Neon Dynasty commander deck, but he also does combat damage to only 1 player, while the splash damage to the other players, I guess, is considered noncombat damage so my guess is that Battle cards could have effects that allow creatures to hit multiple opponents during combat.

This is going to be a powerful set for commander no doubt. The new Kethek, Crucible Goliath is probably one of my favorite commanders from the set honestly. I love the idea of a grindy rakdos value engine, and he seems like he would be a blast to pilot. The new Atraxa is obviously good, but I am honestly a little disappointed she doesn’t do something more interesting. I’m sure she’s going to be popular and a fantastic combo commander. Just wish she was a little less generically good. But I do understand she was printed with standard in mind, so that’s likely why.

I've been waiting for a Myr commander for a decade. As cool as Jhoira is Urtet is a boss. Also Kethek remind me of Grixis Marchesa in that you can steal creatures and get value. I def like the idea of using mostly legendary cards to control the creatures you sac into.

Always loved +1/+1 counter themes in U/G. Definitely add in a Branching Evolution for double counters if you run Simic Ascendancy and you can't afford a Doubling Season. Or just toss in a Body of Research for an instant win on your next turn if nobody has the removal to destroy Ascendancy.

Other cards I feel work well with Malcator are: -Conversion Chamber, make a 3/3 golem from an artifact in your graveyard and a charge counter. -Phantom General, to give your Golem tokens a +1/+1 buff while it is on the board. -Splicer's Skill, splice this Sorcery onto another Sorcery or Instant to make another Golem -Song of the Worldsoul, more golems! -Intangible Virtue, +1/+1, and vigilance on top of other buffs? Yes, please! -Xenograft, now all your non-golem creatures are golems as well! Just a few examples of what came to mind for me.

With Ria Ivor, the best strategy is probably to fill the deck with things that let you choose which creature your opponents have to block with, then give yourself multiple attack steps, and attack each opponent with more than enough power to kill those creatures, preventing any damage to your creatures, and maximizing the number of mites you make. I’m not sure you can do all that in orzov colors, but if you can, that’s how I’d play it.

One card not mentioned for etb effects is Panharmonicon. Remember, whenever an etb would trigger an effect from any permanent, double that trigger. Good example is Master Chef now puts 2 +1/+1 counters on, or Atraxa can now search twice (strongly recommend an unlimited deck trigger for that like Reliquary tower, decanter of endless water, spellbook, or even Wizard class to name a few)

Gonna throw in my love for Rachel. I’ve taken a break from CZ videos for awhile and magic in general. But came back and watched a bunch of Game Knights and Extra Turns and really enjoyed Rachel’s presence there. And she’s just as amazing here on the podcast. "Unnatural Restoration" is not a "Regrowth", it's just a "Nature's Spiral". Big difference, "Regrowth" can get any card from graveyard, not just permanent cards.

Kedis, Emberclaw Familiar is the closest thing (that i can think of) to one creature allowing another creature to deal damage to multiple players during a single attack. But, it only copies the "quantity" of damage, not the "quality" of damage. I use its effect in my Uril the Miststalker Voltron build even though it doesn't hit the other players for Commander Damage specifically. My guess is that Ria Ivor is a hint as to what the "battle" card type/mechanic will be about.

For Ria Ivor there might be a way to do combat damage to multiple players with ninjutsu. You need double strike, return creature to hand and ninjutsu the creature to strike again another player.

Wondering if a battle card is an interrupt which creates a mini game between some number of players and the original game resumes from there??? Something like the Fight mechanic but between players.

Technically, it is possible to have one creature deal combat damage to multiple players if you use certain old cards that redirect damage. Captain's Maneuver and Harm's Way can both redirect some damage to another player without necessarily redirecting all the damage, and cards like Blood of the Martyr and Jade Monolith could also achieve the effect if you used them to save an opponent's creature which was blocking a creature with trample. However, given how niche these effects are, I suspect the templating of Ria Ivor is future-proofing, perhaps for the upcoming battle cards.

For Glissa, I think vorpal sword is an important inclusion. As mentioned first strike and deathtouch make most blocks bad blocks. The threat of vorpal sword is enough to force your opponents to block and lose many creatures.

Black is the most broken colour in commander REALLY. The tutors in black are so overlevel of the other colors. In general the most « I have all » colour is really the green that is just abuse

Hmm, Ria Ivor's ability got me thinking. So this is probably not really what they were thinking of when they made the card but in 2-headed giant, it is teams made up of 2 players that share a life total. Attacking and dealing combat damage would technically be dealing damage to 2 players, wouldn't it?

Bronze guardian is just going to create 1 mite, and then hit for 2 damage. (if that was the only artifact you had down). That's not a great turn. The following turns would be a lot better for sure but if you are going for a poison kill Bronze guardian still seems redundant, though I guess it gives you an option for a regular kill.

Artifact lands and mana rocks pump it up too. Keep that in mind during deckbuilding.

I'd really like an episode where you talk about the Command Zone's philosophy for deck building for a 'fun' power level. I always notice you guys never include infinite combos and focus more on big value plays.

Command Zone actually plays quite a high power level imo. They also need to showcase all the new overpowered cards because they sort of make advertisment for WotC.
