Omg...i hated...loathed stevens! Ever since Lindros beat the blades off his skates( the first time they played) he had it against my boy! Lindros would have won many awards, and he would have gotten the Flyers the cup! Always loved Eric...missed him so much
Imagine how many suspensions Stevens would have in todays game lol he was a great player but a very dirty player as well. Well a lot of players were back then but he definitely lead the charge. He literally tried to ruin player’s careers, and he did. For that reason, and that reason only I can’t stand him. I know I’m nobody lol but that’s my opinion!
Whenever anyone talks about him I hate that some people will blame him for the hit that Steven did. Don’t cut into the middle with your head down yes but also don’t fucking hit each other in the head. The blame should be square we put on the person who hits people in the head.
I sent this to two of my friends before seeing this comment. I wrote the whole video is about 'head down' and 'pre scan' however, McDavid had his head up the entire time! LOL
In the mid-1990s I was at a hockey camp in Canada in Guelph, Ontario. Eric Lindros and Adam Graves were the guest instructors for a day. Lindros would get on one knee at center ice and ask us pick which post we’d want him to hit and he would take a slap shot, on one knee, and hit the post every time. He was huge.
His brother Brett Lindros suffered the same fate. He played only 25 or so games with the Islanders and had 2 really bad concussions. There might have been a third one on there too but he was done as a rookie. Some people said that Brett Lindros was better than Eric but we'll never know. Eric Lindros came into the league in 1993 after refusing to play for the Nordiques and sitting out for a year. As a rookie he was smashing everything and everyone he could. Checking fighting and even some dirty plays. He was like an angry freight train with ballerina like footwork and the hands of a surgeon. He had a mean streak and the league took notice. Everyone was afraid of him so people started to head hunt and hit him whenever they could. Eric Lindros' facade started to chip away year after year. When he finally was in his prime he was tying Jagr for the Art Ross and taking the Flyers to the finals. He wanted to play a more skilled game but everyone had long memories. Pittsburgh penguins defenseman Darius Kasparitis put his shoulder into his face when he tried to cross the blue line with his head down. It was the beginning of the end for Erics career. When he came back for the playoffs Scott Stevens did the same thing as Kasparitis had. Lindros was told by doctors to sit out and he argued with them and had a feud with Bobby Clarke. He even slept with teammate Rod Brindamour's wife. He came back too early and Scott Stevens did the same thing to him again. Almost identical hits. At that point Eric Lindros was no longer Eric Lindros. He became a perimeter player with the Leafs who didn't fight or check. A shell of his former self. Somehow he made it into the hockey hall of Fame. There were so many other players who deserved his spot. Eric Lindros shouldn't be a Hall of Famer. His career just wasn't good enough. He got in because he was a Toronto boy. Born and raised there. He got in on his name alone. Don't get me wrong he was a great player. But he never won a cup, had only one 100 point season. No 50 goal seasons and off the ice shenanigans combined with a short window of real productivity adds up to a guy who doesn't make the Hall. There are other guys who should be in and aren't. Alexander Moginly is a prime example with several others right behind him. That's just my opinion tho, I could be wrong.
@@bobbyshizz2138 Just think about what the Nordiques would have looked like up the middle from 1993-2000. Mats Sundin, Joe Sakic, Eric Lindros. Wow! They would have never made it to Colorado.
Lindros made himself famous by doing that to other players. He was a head hunter for open ice hits and he loved it. Until other people started paying him back for it. That is why his career was shortened. Not by others, but because of what he started.
Yep, he was a punk through and through. Threw his weight around against smaller players. But when it came time to go with Tony Twist, he shriveled up like the wuss he truly was!
He got ko’d at The Fox & Firkin in Calgary Alberta by Elvis Stoyko (the figure skater) after he kept harassing Elvis until he fought him. I was a bouncer at the time. Eric was never the same after that. Nobody seems to know that’s what happened.
I have the double deck of cards still sealed from that draft year with him and Pat Falloon as top cover cards. That was quite a draft year. The back cover had the list of all first rounders.
Yea remember he sat out his first season because he was a huge bitch and didn't like the team that drafted him... to bad Steven's didn't end him forever
I also remember when he was drafted, and then crossed his arms and refused to play in Quebec like a little bitch. Best thing he ever did for that franchise though.... they slaughtered Philly in that trade.
I'd say the one of the best players and the best player to never reach full potential is Sidney Crosby because of his concussions sure we saw him dominate but he never fully reached his true potential due to all the concussions
Lol come on dude. Players have always been taught to keep their head up that's not a new thing in player development. Coaches constantly tried to get him to correct it but he was stubborn and always got away with it in junior because of his size.He thought he was invincible and he found out the hard way that he wasn't.
Was my fav player back in the day. He was pretty much the perfect player. Was huge and played the body. Scored like crazy. Had great vision and could make plays. Was good on the boards, good in the corners. Was responsible defensively. Not the best defensive forward of his era, but certainly wasn’t a liability. He checked all the boxes, man.
Wow I was actually thinking this exact thing yesterday actually and I think ge would have been soooo much more dominate in todays game cause he would have been a beast today. He was a beast back when the league was a tough place to play imagine today?! He would make Tom Wilson look like a Boy Scout lol basically he would be a very scary player in todays age most definitely.
Man he is the reason I love power forward in the NHL. His mix of skill, height, size, speed, and elite goal scoring are just a few reaosn why I love Lindros.
His cottage is 500 yards away from mine. Every time I see him I’m reminded of 1 thing only. Him snubbing the team that drafted him 1rst overall. Arrogant…
There's so many players you can say that about. Bobby Orr and Mike Bossy with their knees, Cam Neely as well. Mario with his back. So many elite players back in the day ended up with shortened careers, or careers that could've been so much more had they stayed healthy. It why I hold my breath every time McDavid goes into a corner. He's already had injury problems.
Nothing infuriates me more than defenseman today. Why do you think so many dmen go for the puck instead of the body now? Growing up I was always taught to take the body. Half of these players wouldn't be able to pull these moves off if the dmen would take the body.
Agreed. Watch this video tho. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gmnLCtdBJoI.html I explain why it’s so hard to play the body on a guy like McDavid. For majority of scenarios, taking the body is effective bc they aren’t as fast McDavid.
@@hockeypsychology Yes, I agree. McDavids, MacKinnons, etc will always be hard to stop. Basically comparable to the Bures, Gretzkys and Jagrs. But when your 3rd liners are dangling top dmen, there's an issue haha.
Alot of players in NHL rn wouldn't have been on teams in those days or been able to take the punishment. Lindros on other hand would be better in today's game since can have his skill, physical size, everything and not have to worry about fights or goons as much if at all.
@@chriscoller1861 they’re not facts, they’re your butthurt opinions. You’re being an over sensitive little baby, just like everyone else who can’t stand the fact that Stevens wrecked Lindros. Gotta come up with some bitchy whiny nonsense that isn’t even true because you can’t handle a comment on youtube. Touch Grass.
As a flyers fan, I can confirm he was a monster in game, players always kept a distance when he injured that one dude from st Louis or new York I don't remember but it was a vicious hit
04/05 lockout he was at my arena with tons of guys for charity tourney Gilmour ,domi ,yzerman,Roberts ,Napier, cujo, stumpy Thomas and a few more but his ride to the golf course (Gilmour) took off on him lol, so I drove Lindros there in my 94 civic , his bag wouldn't fit lol , the man is huge he barely fit himself and Gilmour had a nice new big Escalade
if they made equipments just padding and not hard plastic...hits would lessen because even the hitter would get destroyed...two guys crashing at over 70km an hour would not last...and little guys coukd not play without enforcers protecting them...check out when gretzky got crushed...he needed mcsorley to protect him.
The fact professionals can skate with their heads down is why I don't watch hockey and only highlights. Lindros knew what he was doing making risky moves. Some players today should be in the NHL who can prescan some shouldn't it's a joke. Concussions happen Number one rule keep your head up. That's minor hockey shit
Peripheral vision. You can see everything if you stick handle properly. Speed has nothing to do with being able to have your "head down." The physicality isn't there because it's more skill based, not because it's faster.
i hate the idea that the avs somehow “fleeced” the flyers. They didn’t. Lindros played just as long at just a high a level. He might have won 3 cups instead of Forsberg’s 2, just saying

@Kendrick Maeldun couldn't agree more! I've been saying this for years. He developed bad habits as a kid because he could get away with it due to his size. Those bad habits caught up with him in the big league. Scott Stevens comes to mind.
I think I saw somewhere, he was a big bully on the ice, taking out smaller guys just to wrecked em. So Scott Stevens hit was karma Probably a great guy off the ice idk 🤣
At his peak he was the most physically dominant superstar the league has ever seen. Seemed to score at will, while be able to shitkick heavyweight fighers like Chris Simon.
They are all doing a quick glance which hockey players have had to always get good at. With lindros ur seeing someone who fully failed at doing that he didnt glance and take a mental image he jjst went head down and thats when he got caught. If u look up and then look back down only to get hit u didnt take a very good note on the play
A lot of players today would get smoked back in the day with their head down. The speed of the game is faster and more skilled precise but I like big hits clean hits and it's nice to see as it's part of the game.
Also with the ability to play with ur head down yes pre scan is a thing but a player can still see everything they need to with there head down you just have to predict the opponents moves without seeing their head
What about Sidney Crosby! Sid still gets absolute cheap shots on him and the refs look the other way! Todays NHL isn't saving players its ruining them!!!! Take out the enforcer and fighting and you get the career ending cheap shots! Don Cherry was right!!!! The speed hasn't changed either! You think any player can skate faster than a player in the 80's or 90"s!? WHY? Skates haven't changed THAT much and neither have the athletes! Today we measure it at all the all-star events....thats the only difference
This kind of glosses over the fact that every hit Lindros took was considered 'clean' when they happened. But these days those types of hits are eliminated from the game as they will come with lengthy suspensions. I loved Scott Stevens at the time, but no way would he be allowed to deliver a lot of those hits in today's league. And that's for the best. That has way more to do with how players 'survive' going through the middle rather than claiming they looked up earlier, haha
