When Sakaguchi left Square, hr founded his own company called Mistwalker. I believe Uematsu has worked on a couple games they put out, either Blue Dragon or Lost Odyssey. I don't remember if he worked on Last Story though. So they've worked together post Squaresoft before. I honestly didn't even know Sakaguchi was still working in the industry at this point. I could have sworn Mistwalker closed down.

Nintendo likely just doesn't see any competition for the Switch right now as it is basically a captive market. The original gameboy was still on the market with only modest upgrades for over a decade before the GBA finally came out. Here's hoping the Switch's successor will be just as big of a leap without as long of a wait.

Metroid Prime 4 is an instant win. Retro Studios COOKED. I can see why they took 7 years to show anything.

You're so right about how Nintendo invents new mechanics to keep many of its releases very unique and exclusive. One of the things I LOVE about Nintendo is its ability to think outside the box. The people there are wizards!

Metroid Prime 4 has beaten Half Life 3 to the announcement and gameplay race.

This was a great Nintendo direct. I got super excited with the marvel vs Capcom collection being announced. I have friends of mine who are aware of the games but just never played them because the after market prices are absolutely insane with each of them costing hundreds of dollars each. So this collection is a great way to play them and it's finally nice to have the punisher beat em up on a home console. I'm super hyped now for Metroid Prime and the new Zelda game. Playing as Zelda herself is a great way to keep the series fresh and exciting.

Why are you guys talking about the Switch 2? I'm still waiting for the "Nintendo Ultra" console, advertised in the arcade version of Killer Instinct... they've been developing it for so many years, it'll be great when it finally comes out...

Basically there was quite a few games I was interested in playing. Of course a new Zelda game and playing a new way makes this series fresh (that was not a Splatoon reference lol) and I’m excited to play that probably on day one. I never played Dragon Quest so I might play it. We will see, but when I saw that text go across the screen I knew it was Metroid and hoped it was Prime 4. Finally we have gameplay of Metroid Prime 4!! It should have never been developed by anyone other than Retro Studios! This is going to be awesome!! I can wait until 2025 but any longer there is going to be a problem.

Tears of the Kingdom was not cross generation. Breath of the Wild was.

You skipped talking about the Ace Attorney Investigations dualigy being ported to switch. This not a big deal for AA as now every game is no longer handheld exclusive, but AAI2 has finaly gotten an official translation. I mean I would've prefered it if they just cannonized the fan translation, but this is also good. The new names are making my head spin though.

I’ve been having out in the fire emblem sub Reddit watching the fans go ballistic because a game that wasn’t announced …… wasn’t announced. Those cats out there are like Homer Simpson in the White House looking for Lincoln’s treasure. There was never a mention of it, someone just started counting from a random spot and spun everyone into a tizzy. It’s been a fun afternoon.

Metroid has never been a real big seller for Nintendo and I could see Metroid Prime 4 being a cross-gen game because they'll be able to double-dip on sales. Hopefully there is a limited edition console bundle available.

If there was a reason to get a Switch 2 Metroid is it for me.

it's way more than that actually. thay have a thing for dropping certain announcements for stuff it's crazy, i don't know how they do it, that MVC collection was everything, MVC is officially back, i've been playing MVC2 a lot lately on a DC emulator with arcade stick, fighting games are a way of life, man... just saying... Where was that announcement during during summer game's fest, during what ever the effe came before that i don't remember, during the last EVO? it had to be dropped on a Nintendo direct of all places before anywhere else signaling the return of one of the best fighting games ever made. Just refer to maximilian dood's reaction for context. for me it happened many many times before, the last time was during the last direct, as a Gundam fan i've been waiting for Gundam breaker 4 since i sank THOUSANDS and i mean THOUSANDS of hours into breaker 3... and out of nowhere it drops on a Nintendo Direct of all places. WTF man?

Meh, it was ok. At least the focus was on new games and I'm hyped for Metroid Prime 4 and a new Mario Party. I'm mad that we'll never get that DLC for MP Superstars that I was praying for. Though if I HAVE to use motion controls for the new Mario Party I'm out.

Just a shame Metroid Prime 4 will be stuck on the Switch in 1080p and no Prime 2/3 HD remaster. Fantasian: Neo Dimension was previously stuck in the Apple Arcade for years, was originally called Fantasian.

10/10 Nintendo won E3... the strange people who are like this was mid or underwhelming shows how diverse the fanbase is for the Switch... even if the games don't personally resonate with you, to think this is a mid Direct overall is crazy to me

Man, I don't like being a negative nancy as a lot of the stuff shown in this direct looked fun and good but... I'm just sat here like, can you announce the successor to the Switch already Nintendo? I'm fairly certain that all this stuff is gonna be backwards compatible as Nintendo have always tried to make that happen where possible. So I'd rather play it on whatever the Switch's successor is gonna be. But don't let that detract from the fact that this direct was amazing.

It was literally mid. Mario party and metroid 4. Only took nintendo almost 20 years to announce mp4. It's like they are out of touch like most other studios.

Really not a fan of Nintendo since all the emulation shut downs, this makes it hard to hate them though.

Nintendo is lost to the "modern audience". Not getting another penny from me.
