yeah, and it was a role he wanted to do as well. He signed on for Ferngully before Disney approached him for Aladdin, and Katzenberg did everything in his power to fuck around with the production of Ferngully including trying to convince Robin Williams to drop the role, something Robin outright refused. For anyone else who comes along to this comment, the role of the Genie was created with Robin Williams as their first choice, and he agreed to do the role for SAG minimum in gratitude for assistance on earlier films like Good Morning Vietnam, but he also had contract stipulations about how Aladdin was to be marketed. See, Robin Williams was working on other projects that were passion projects, and they were slated for release around the same time Aladdin would be coming out and he feared that The Mouse would suck up all the oxygen in the room and not allow those other films chances to breathe and succeed. His big stipulation was that he didn't want Genie (and therefore his clout) to be central focus in any of the advertising, but Katzenberg and Disney found 'creative' ways to re-neg on those stipulations, which is why the Genie got way more focus than characters like Aladdin or Jasmine. On the Ferngully side of things, Katzenberg actually went so far as to offer higher payments for studio space, as Aladdin and Ferngully were in production at the same time (but Ferngully did release several months before Aladdin), to cause disruptions. I don't know if it was to get Ferngully shelved or if it was so they could get Aladdin done first and beat Ferngully to market, or if it was just Katzenberg throwing a tantrum because of Williams' refusal to drop the role of Batty Koda.
The thing with flying foxes being bad at landing is actually true. I have 2 giant flying foxes, the bigger the species, the more clumsy they are when it comes to flying and landing XD

I watched this movie for the first time today because bats are my favorite animal and I LOVE animated films from the 80s and 90s so when I saw it in my recommendations and there was a bat on the cover I was instantly hooked. I looked up the bat character before I watched the movie and I love Batty Koda SO MUCH he’s so funny and cute!!! And Robin Williams is such a good choice for him, what with the many impressions he always does. :) I was hoping someone uploaded Batty’s best moments and I’m so glad someone did. Also I haven’t watched the Ferngully sequel yet, I know the voice actors changed, but I want to watch it solely for more Batty content.
Ngl, the best part of this whole movie was the Machine. Not because I want forests to burn or any edgy contrarian nonsense, but because the engineering required to build a functional mass harvester of that size is just inherently fascinating to me. Oh, also Crystal was pretty hot and Robin Williams came in clutch with the humor this movie so desperately needed.
