I've just recently bought 3 vinyls from discogs. I myself love how they have pretty much every record i've been looking for. The interface is very outdated which needs a major upgrade. Thanks for the list and i'll be checking these out.

As a buyer, Discogs is number 1 and then eBay. After that I just keep an eye out for what I am looking for in brick and mortar record stores.

Personally, I loathe Whatnot. My experiences have been poor at best, most of the time it’s people shilling less than par records for the naive and eager to overpay (at least early on) buyers. The whole thing feels a bit slime-y. Another big issue is I’ve never really found those LPs I really want, just people getting rid of mediocre stuff. A lot of record sellers, not a lot of record lovers. There are also some questionable business practices going on with their up and coming publishing arm. Definitely something to keep an eye on. For the time being I’m sticking w Discogs-even with it’s clunky interface.

Thanks for the recommendation and I’m an older record collector and getting back in the game of record collecting. I see many are collecting older records or vintage but I miss the days when you mostly chased the new records at stores for the latest music that most ppl. didn’t know about and getting first. So i wanted to add that bc that’s what I find missing now.

This is a helpful video for people that are new to collecting. I haven't tried "whatnot" yet but maybe someday I will. I don't plan on buying any records in the next few months. I'm happy I purchased a majority of my collection allready.

5:50 discogs needs some photo uploads from the sellers. I always felt it was risky buying on there but most of the time I got lucky on purchases in 2018 and 2019 before used prices started to peak.

I use Discogs and agree it could do with an update. I wish there was a filter facility on the wantlist so it’ll only tell me about records available in the UK and which are VG+ or better. If there already is and I’ve not been using the site properly I’d be happy to know !
@TooManyRecords
@TooManyRecords Год назад
If there is, I haven't found one! As someone who prices records just about all day every day, it's insane that I can't pre-save filters when going through album variants.

Good list, never knew about nasdisc so I'll have to check it out. I'm still nervous about buying from whatnot, I'm not sure why, I guess I'm just afraid of putting my financial info into yet another platform. With all the breaches going on all the time, I try to limit it, but it sure does look like a lot of fun to have that interactive bidding experience.

I came across your awesome channel by searching how to sell vinyl records. I have a decent amount of hip hop, R&B, and electro style LP"s and 12 inch singles. I'd say easily 5000 thousand together. There are some gems in the entire collection such as the Eagles hotel California album mint and Michael Jackson off the wall or AC/DC back in black mint. But mostly 80's - 90's early 2000's hip hop. I'm looking to sell the entire lot. Any suggestions for me? Thank you.

I feel like buying records internationally is bad on all platforms, though, not specifically a whatnot problem.

Whatnot is anything but community focused in fact be very wary of anyone peddling parasocial nonsense like "community" online. It's basically a lottery where people with skills to entertain create gambling scenario's for thier own profit margins. Hence the 15 dollars for free to get people hooked.
@MrRom92DAW
@MrRom92DAW Год назад
Discogs is not without its problems but at least I feel somewhat protected using their platform… or I *did*, until PayPal changed their return shipping policy. IMO incompetent or irresponsible sellers need to be held accountable when they are at fault, I’m going to buy a lot less when I’m on the hook for other people’s screwups. Which happen all too often.
@TooManyRecords
@TooManyRecords Год назад
I’m not familiar with this change of policy. What happened?
@MrRom92DAW
@MrRom92DAW Год назад
@@TooManyRecords the new policy is that the buyer is responsible for all return shipping costs even when they aren’t at fault so, you’ll be on the hook for somebody else’s mistake. It’s no longer a risk free proposition to buy anything. One LP via media mail within the US? Mildly annoying to lose $4 to send it back, whatever. But anything international? Which is the majority of what I’d be looking to buy online anyway? Basically a big F U

Whatnot is Awful in the UK. Can only really get pokemon cards or sports stuff and no vinyl sold there

Hmm.. international buyers can buy from my stream, but they have to pay international shipping which admittedly isn't great.

Ebay upped the selling fees because they don't use paypal anymore and pay users directly. This gave them an opportunity to just receive the money paypal used to take, predictable and kinda frustrating..
@TooManyRecords
@TooManyRecords Год назад
That makes sense, tbh, so I guess it isn't as egregious as I thought, but still rough.
@tomboyd8
@tomboyd8 Год назад
@@TooManyRecords I was going to make this point. Not having to pay fees to ebay and PayPal is a definite plus but, as you mention, the fees have been increased significantly... to be expected I guess! Occasionally, as a buyer, I have found some real bargains on ebay though. It can be good for finding records that aren't the most popular, as these seem to always attract multiple bids, whereas lesser known records can sometimes go unnoticed. A couple that spring to mind this year are Crush by Floating Points (new copy), which I grabbed for £6.50 and Four Tet's VMP Pink album which was a bit more at £22, but brand new and seemingly harder to find at that price online.

There is also Musicstack it looks decent never bought or sold anything though the site I have no idea about that. I have done some searches looking for stuff prices for some stuff is kinda high and like 80% of the stuff listed on the site is per 2000s. Site hs been around since early 2000s there is not even close to as many sellers as Discogs or Ebay. There is also more than just Vinyl and CDs on the site like some posters and concert booklets to.

here a Discogger from Europe: my biggest complain? they're manipulating the prices, hiding very high (expansive) sales
@TooManyRecords
@TooManyRecords Год назад
This is a true thing, the sales history is not super accurate and there are high sales that don't show up frequently. I wonder why that is.
@mariorossi4149
@mariorossi4149 Год назад
@@TooManyRecords far from accurate. I see only two options: either they 'adjust' prices in order to buy themselves for cheap and resale, either they want to keep low prices on the whole platform to easy and increase general sales.
